Elastic and Chemical Contributions to the Stability of Magnetic Surface Alloys on Ru(0001)
We have used density functional theory to study the structural stability of
surface alloys. Our systems consist of a single pseudomorphic layer of
on the Ru(0001) surface, where = Fe or Co, and = Pt, Au,
Ag, Cd, or Pb. Several of the combinations studied by us display a preference
for atomically mixed configurations over phase-segregated forms. We have also
performed further {\it ab initio} calculations to obtain the parameters
describing the elastic interactions between atoms in the alloy layer, including
the effective atomic sizes at the surface. We find that while elastic
interactions favor alloying for all the systems considered by us, in some cases
chemical interactions disfavor atomic mixing. We show that a simple criterion
(analogous to the Hume-Rothery first law for bulk alloys) need not necessarily
work for strain-stabilized surface alloys, because of the presence of
additional elastic contributions to the alloy heat of formation, that will tend
to oppose phase segregation.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures Submitted To Phys. Rev.
A Critical Review of Yang and Plakans' Strategy Inventory for Integrated Writing
This article reviews Yang and Plakans' (2012) Strategy Inventory for Integrated Writing (SIIW). The existence of SIIW is crucial to elicit strategies used by TOEFL iBT test takers in completing integrated reading-listening-writing task. After reviewing Yang and Plakans' SIIW, it is found that there is a need to develop a more comprehensive, reliable and valid strategy inventory for integrated writing

Influence of spatial resolution on diurnal variability during the north American monsoon
Diurnal variability is an important yet poorly understood aspect of the warm-season precipitation regime over southwestern North America. In an effort to improve its understanding, diurnal variability is investigated numerically using the fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University (PSU)-NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5). The goal herein is to determine the possible influence of spatial resolution on the diurnal cycle. The model is initialized every 48 h using the operational NCEP Eta Model 212 grid (40 km) model analysis. Model simulations are carried out at horizontal resolutions of both 9 and 3 km. Overall, the model reproduces the basic features of the diurnal cycle of rainfall over the core monsoon region of northwestern Mexico and the southwestern United States. In particular, the model captures the diurnal amplitude and phase, with heavier rainfall at high elevations along the Sierra Madre Occidental in the early-afternoon that shifts to lower elevations along the west slopes in the evening. A comparison to observations (gauge and radar data) shows that the high-resolution (3 km) model generates better rainfall distributions on time scales from monthly to hourly than the coarse-resolution (9 km) model, especially along the west slopes of the Sierra Madre Occidental. The model has difficulty with nighttime rainfall along the slopes, over the Gulf of California, and over Arizona. A comparison of surface wind data from three NCAR Integrated Sounding System (ISS) stations and the Quick Scatterometer (QuikSCAT) to the model reveals a low bias in the strength of the Gulf of California low-level jet, even at high resolution. The model results indicate that outflow from convection over northwestern Mexico can modulate the low-level jet, though the extent to which these relationships occur in nature was not investigated. © 2008 American Meteorological Society

This study aims to examine the effect of the number of boards of
commissioners, the percentage of independent commissioners, the amount of
compensation board of commissioners, audit committee, and Corporate Social
Responsibility to corporate tax management
This study used multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS. The
population used in this study consists of manufacturing companies listed in Indonesia
Stock Exchange for the period 2012-2015. Samples were obtained in this study as
many as 30 companies, bringing the total overall sample to be observed during the
years 2012 to 2015 a total of 120.
The results show that there is a significant positive effect on the number of
commissioners tax management. There is a significant positive effect on the
percentage of independent board tax management. There is a significant positive
effect on the amount of compensation commissioners tax management. There is no
influence of the audit committee of the tax management. There is no influence of
Corporate Social Responsibility for the management of taxes. There is no effect of
firm size on tax management. There is a significant positive effect on the profitability

Inertia and chiral edge modes of a skyrmion magnetic bubble
The dynamics of a vortex in a thin-film ferromagnet resembles the motion of a
charged massless particle in a uniform magnetic field. Similar dynamics is
expected for other magnetic textures with a nonzero skyrmion number. However,
recent numerical simulations revealed that skyrmion magnetic bubbles show
significant deviations from this model. We show that a skyrmion bubble
possesses inertia and derive its mass from the standard theory of a thin-film
ferromagnet. Besides center-of-mass motion, other low energy modes are waves on
the edge of the bubble traveling with different speeds in opposite directions.Comment: updated simulation detail
Pengaruh Pupuk Cair Limbah Biogas pada Tanaman Selada (Lactuca Sativa L)
This study aims to determine the dosage of biogas waste liquid fertilizer that produces growth and yield of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L) best. The research was conducted in Experimental Field of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. The soil type used is Inceptisol. The study was conducted for three months starting from May to July 2016. The experiment was conducted experiments using Completely Randomized Design (RAL), which consisted of 6 treatments and 4 replications. The total experimental unit was 24 plots, with each plot contained 9 plants. Each plot was taken 3 randomly sampled plants. The observational data were analyzed statistically using Analysis of Varian (ANOVA), and Duncan Multiple Range Test at the 5 % level. The observed parameters consist of plant height, leaf number, fresh weight of plant, fresh weight of plant worth consumption and dry weight of the plant. The results showed that the treatment of biogas waste liquid fertilizer can increase the height of the plant, the number of leaves, the fresh weight of the plant / plot, the fresh weight of the plant is feasible consumption / plot and dry weight. The best treatment for lettuce production was the application of liquid biogas waste fertilizer with a dose of 3.5 liters / plot
Coral Recruitment on Reef Balltm Modules at the Benete Bay, Sumbawa Island, Indonesia
Reef BallTM structure is a popular artificial reef module that has been invested in many countries. Publication on its efficacy in promoting coral recruitment however remains lack of study or publication. This present study was aimed to examine the pattern of coral recruitment on reef ball structure at the Benete Bay of Sumbawa Island, Indonesia. Thirty reef-balls (dome shape; 0.90 cm height, 1.20 cm diameter) were monitored after three years of deployment. The results of this study showed that nearly all coral colonies grew on the outer vertical surface and upper side of the reef balls. The recruit number varied a lot between 1-76 colonies per module. Most recruits were belonged to the Family Acroporidae, which contributed approximately 76 percent to the whole recruitment (640 colonies). Branching acroporiid was the most abundant colonies (55%). Pocilloporidae and Faviidae both contributed approximately nine percent to the total recruitment, while Poritidae contributed about three percent. Other coral families only had <1% contribution. The diameter of coral colonies which were growing on the reef balls varied between 5-290 mm. The number of recruit on the ball was very low at 10 meter depth (1-5 colonies per ball) that was likely to be affected by sedimentation. This study showed that reef ball module can be effectively used as a method in rehabilitating damaged coral reefs, and developing a proto-reef
