RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VELOCITY COEFFICIENT AND MOMENT OF FORCE TO CUTTING WITH A DISC KNIFE

A number of food products are effectively cut with disc knives with smooth cutting edge. Due to the elasticity of the food products, the deformation that arises during their dissection causes friction forces between the side walls of the knife and the product. Given these frictional forces formulas are derived for the resultant friction power and friction torque [1].This article is a continuation of previous studies [1; 2; 3; 4]. A study is proposed on the influence of the parameter λ, representing the ratio of the cutting velocity of the disc to the feeding velocity, on the resultant friction moment.A number of food products are effectively cut with disc knives with smooth cutting edge. A Framework for Design-Time Testing of Service-Based Applications at BPEL Level

Software applications created on top of the service-oriented architecture (SOA) are increasingly popular but testing them remains a challenge. In this paper a framework named TASSA for testing the functional and non-functional behaviour of service-based applications is presented. The paper focuses on the concept of design time testing, the corresponding testing approach and architectural integration of the consisting TASSA tools. The individual TASSA tools with sample validation scenarios were already presented with a general view of their relation. This paper’s contribution is the structured testing approach, based on the integral use of the tools and their architectural integration. The framework is based on SOA principles and is composable depending on user requirements. The work reported in this paper was supported by a research project funded by the National Scientific Fund, Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Youth and Science, via agreement no. An Analysis and Forecast of Software and Services Research in Bulgaria

In the last 40 years much has been achieved in Software Engineering research and still more is to be done. Although significant progress is being made on several fronts in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), there is still no set of clear, central themes to focus research activity on. A task within the EU FP7 Sister project aimed at defining research priorities for the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (Sofia University) in the area of Software and Services. A dedicated methodology was proposed and developed, based on various sources of information. The information accumulated was systematised and processed according to this methodology. The final results obtained are described and discussed here.* The work reported in this paper is partly supported by the SISTER project, funded by the European Commission in FP7-SP4 Capacities via agreement no. 205030

PERIOCULAR METASTASIS ASSOCIATED WITH COLORECTAL CARCINOMA

    Get PDF
Purpose: To present a case of a 69-year old woman with periocular metastatic disease. Methods: Standard ophthalmic examination combined with CT and PET/CT imaging, surgical excision of the tumour and histopathological and immunohistochemical examination. Results: Patient presents with large solid lesion in left lateral eyelid angle. After surgical excision histopathological examination shows metastatic moderately to poorly differentiated rectal adenocarcinoma. PET/CT shows whole body subcutaneous metastases. Patient receives chemotherapy and eighteen months after eyelid surgery is without local recurrence. Conclusions: Periocular metastasis can present with nonspecific features and should be considered in patients with known systemic malignancy. Treatment and follow up of these patients is multidisciplinary team work

Gold catalysts supported on ceria doped by rare earth metals for water gas shift reaction: Influence of the preparation method

Cataloged from PDF version of article.Gold catalysts based on ceria, doped by various RE metals (La, Sm, Gd, Yb, Y) were studied. The influence of the preparation methods on structure, properties and catalytic activity in the WGS reaction was investigated. The catalysts' supports were prepared using two different methods: co-precipitation (CP) and mechanochemical activation (MA). The catalysts were tested in a wide temperature interval without and after reactivation. All samples were characterized using a combination of X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy (RS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and TPR. It was found that the catalytic activity of MA catalysts is higher than CP ones. The gold catalysts based on ceria doped by Yb and Sm exhibited the highest activity. After reactivation in air the MA samples almost kept the WGS activity same, while the CP catalysts increased it. The catalysts of a single- and double-phase structure are formed as a result of CP and MA preparation, respectively. There are no big differences in the gold particles size (2-3 nm) depending on dopants and on the preparation techniques. The RS spectra analysis indicates that most probably the oxygen vacancies are adjacent to Me(3+) dopant and the ceria structure seems to be better ordered than in the case of alumina as a dopant. There is no distinct correlation between reducibility and WGS activity. The XPS analysis disclose positively charged gold particles in addition to metallic gold within a surface region of fresh samples and only metallic gold on the samples after catalytic processing. There is no simple correlation between the concentration of Ce(3+) in the samples and their WGS activity. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
