The overall objective of this study was to investigate self-efficacy, locus of control, and academic procrastination as predictors of academic achievement in students identified as gifted or non-gifted (normal). Another purpose of the study was to analyze whether there was a difference between the self-efficacy, locus of control, and academic procrastination scores of the students in both groups. The study group consisted of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students, some of whom were Science and Art Centers students who were diagnosed as gifted, while others were public school students who were not diagnosed as gifted. The data of the study were collected using the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children, the Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, and the Academic Procrastination Scale. The Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, the Independent Samples t-Test, and simple and multiple linear regression were employed to analyze the data. According to the results, it can be said that academic procrastination has an important role in the academic achievement of gifted students, whereas self-efficacy, locus of control, and academic procrastination have a significant part to play in the academic achievement of non-gifted students. The comparison of self-efficacy, locus of control, and academic procrastination scores of gifted and non-gifted students indicated that the self-efficacy scores of gifted students were significantly higher than those of the non-gifted.  Article visualizations

The morphometric, meristic and genetic characteristics of European sprat (Sprattus sprattus) in the Black Sea

The European sprat (Sprattus sprattus) represents the unit stock shared among the Black Sea countries. It has a key role in the Black Sea ecosystem and is determined by its importance from both a commercial and an ecological point of view. Up to now, there are few studies on the meristic, morphometric and genetic characteristics of this species. In this study, the species were specified and studied for meristic, morphometric and genetic characteristics. Mitochondrial gene regions which 16S rRNA and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), were studied and compared with some of the family Clupeidae species in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and the phylogenetic relationship was examined. A total of 14 haplotypes were determined for the mitochondrial COI gene region and 3 haplotypes were determined for the 16S rRNA gene region. This study will contribute to the sustainable management of this species as well as be a basis for future studies

Morphometric, meristic and genetic characteristics of Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda) in the Black Sea

The Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda) is a commercially important and popular species in the world as well as in Turkish fisheries sector. In this study, the morphologic and meristic features and genetic characteristics of Atlantic bonito in the Black Sea were examined. We found that most of the morphometric measurements in females were greater than males. Besides, 10 haplotypes were found for COI gene region, 3 haplotypes for 16s gene region and 4 haplotypes for the rhodopsin gene region. Genetic closure was determined in Tirebolu population for the first time

Effect of Septoplasty on Voice Quality: A Prospective-Controlled Trial

Objectives. The purpose is to investigate effect of septoplasty and widened nasal patency on voice quality. Methods. Fifty patients who undergone septoplasty were included in the study. Thirty-three people who had similar age and distribution were enrolled as control group. Before and 1 and 3 months after surgery, anterior rhinomanometry, voice analysis by Multi-Dimensional Voice Program, and spectrographic analysis were performed to patients. The recordings of /a/ vowel were used to evaluate average fundamental frequency (F0), jitter percent, and shimmer percent. In spectrographic analyses, F3–F4 values for the vowels /i, e, a, o, and u/, nasal formant frequencies of the consonants /m/ and /n/ in the word /mini/, and 4 formant frequencies (F1, F2, F3, and F4) for nasalized /i/ vowel following a nasal consonant /n/ in the word /mini/ were compared. The differences in nasal resonance were evaluated. All patients were asked whether change in their voices after the surgery. Preoperative and postoperative voice parameters and anterior rhinomanometry results were compared separately with the control group as well as in the patient group itself. Results. Preoperative total nasal resistance (TNR) values of patients were higher than the control group (P=0.001). TNR values of patients measured one day before surgery and after surgery in the 1st and 3rd months were different and these differences were significant statistically (P=0.001). There was no significant difference between the voice analysis parameters in preoperative, postoperative 1st, and 3rd months. As a result of their subjective reviews, 12 patients (36%) noted their voices were better than before surgery and 20 patients (61%) noted no change before and after surgery. Conclusion. Providing widened nasal cavity has no effect on voice quality

Length-weight relationships of 28 fish species caught from demersal trawl survey in the Middle Black Sea, Turkey

    Get PDF
This study provides updated the length-weight relationships and Fulton's condition factor of 28 fish species belonging to 23 families from the Black Sea. Samples were collected along the depths between 0-100 meters by demersal trawl surveys conducted seasonally from May 2017 to September 2019. A total of 83,885 specimens were collected. The length-weight relationships and Fulton's condition factor, minimum, maximum and mean lengths, total weights, descriptive statistics, and growth type were provided for all the species. The results indicate that LWR parameters of b varied from 2.2039 to 3.737 and Fulton's condition factor varied between 0.004 and 1.18. These findings could be useful for monitoring and management of sustainable fisheries and habitat health

Synthesis and spectral characterization of Pb(II) perchlorate complexes

    No full text
374-377Five new types of Pb(II) perchlorate complexes have been synthesized by template effect by reaction of 2,6-diaminopyridine, Pb(ClO₄)₂.6H₂O and dialdehydes in methanol. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, UV-vis spectra, conductivity measurements and mass spectra. On the basis of spectral studies, five coordinated and square pyramid geometry may be assigned to these complexes
