    Non-Standard Errors

In statistics, samples are drawn from a population in a data-generating process (DGP). Standard errors measure the uncertainty in estimates of population parameters. In science, evidence is generated to test hypotheses in an evidence-generating process (EGP). We claim that EGP variation across researchers adds uncertainty: Non-standard errors (NSEs). We study NSEs by letting 164 teams test the same hypotheses on the same data. NSEs turn out to be sizable, but smaller for better reproducible or higher rated research. Adding peer-review stages reduces NSEs. We further find that this type of uncertainty is underestimated by participants

Bakalaura darbs sastāv no 76 lappaspusēm, 3 nodaļām. Darbs ietver 6 tabulas, 19 attēlus un 9 pielikumus.Bachelor's thesis - Human resource management analysis and its improvement in the children and youth center “Riga Skolenu Pils” The foundation of today's successful company is its employees or in other words the staff. Human resource management occupies a leading position in the company's management system and development. Human resource management ensures the efficiency of the organization and high results. The motivation process and motivation system play an important role in human resource management. This topic has become one of the most typical issues for organizations, because appropriately and properly motivated employees determine the efficiency of the company, readiness for some changes, development perspective, as well as the company's chances of survival. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to study and analyze the human resource management process and staff motivation, satisfaction with work in the children and youth center "Riga Skolenu Pils", as well as to develop proposals for the improvement and development of human resource management. To achieve the goal and implementation of the work, the research of literature and analysis on human resource management (human resource management functions, tasks, motivation theories) were done, furthermore was made a quantitative research on personnel motivation and job satisfaction based on employee surveys, interviews with company administration and personnel representatives. As a result of the research, conclusions and suggestions have appeared, by following to which, the company will have the opportunity to improve and perfect the human resouce management of BJC “Riga Skolenu Pils”, as well as increase the motivation of the personnel. The bachelor's thesis consists of 76 pages, 3 chapters. The work includes 6 charts, 19 pictures and 9 appendices

Putting a Finger on Guitars and Algorithms

Guitar tablature is a notation system widely used by guitar players when learning to play songs. The notation consists of information about which string and which fret the guitarist should put his finger on. However, it does not normally contain information on which fingers should be put on which notes. In this thesis we study existing methods related to incorporating fingering information alongside musical notations. Using this material, we define a set of factors that affect the guitar fingering and then design an algorithm for computing an optimal fingering for a tablature. The final product is an algorithm that computes optimal fingering positions according to the relevant factors. The computed fingerings are evaluated by comparing them to how experienced guitarists play the given melody. Our results indicate that it is possible to produce optimal fingerings algorithmically. This is a step forward in helping beginner and intermediate guitar players in their learning process.

In statistics, samples are drawn from a population in a data-generating process (DGP). Standard errors measure the uncertainty in sample estimates of population parameters. In science, evidence is generated to test hypotheses in an evidence-generating process (EGP). We claim that EGP variation across researchers adds uncertainty: non-standard errors. To study them, we let 164 teams test six hypotheses on the same sample. We find that non-standard errors are sizeable, on par with standard errors. Their size (i) co-varies only weakly with team merits, reproducibility, or peer rating, (ii) declines significantly after peer-feedback, and (iii) is underestimated by participants
