Waste sector governance in Latvia
MaÄ£istra darba āAtkritumu apsaimniekoÅ”anas nozares pÄrvaldÄ«bas novÄrtÄjums LatvijÄā mÄrÄ·is ir veikt atkritumu nozares pÄrvaldÄ«bas sistemÄtiski strukturÄtu izvÄrtÄjumu, lai noteiktu kÄ tÄ izveidota izrietot no Eiropas Parlamenta un Padomes direktÄ«vas 2008/ 98/EK (Eiropas SavienÄ«bas oficiÄlais vÄstnesis 2008) par atkritumiem un tiesisko rÄmi, kura ietvaros katrai dalÄ«bvalstij ir iespÄja lemt, lai pielÄgotu sistÄmu savas valsts vajadzÄ«bÄm, lai nodroÅ”inÄtu Å”ajÄ direktÄ«vÄ noteiktos mÄrÄ·us un prioritÄtes. IzstrÄdÄjot maÄ£istra darbu, atkritumu nozare tika vÄrtÄta kÄ sociÄli ekoloÄ£iska sistÄma. DarbÄ tika izvÄrtÄtas ES prasÄ«bas atkritumu pÄrvaldÄ«bÄ institucionÄlÄ modeļa kontekstÄ un visu pÄrvaldÄ«bas instrumentu grupu kop kontekstÄ. Tika salÄ«dzinÄts Latvijas piemÄrs ar citu ES dalÄ«bvalstu piemÄriem- atkritumu apsaimniekoÅ”anÄ ievestajiem pÄrvaldÄ«bas modeļiem, izmantojot ieviestÄs likumdoÅ”anas un sistÄmas izvÄrtÄjumu, nozares ekspertu intervijas , papildus vÄrtÄjot atkritumsaimniecÄ«bu arÄ« paÅ”valdÄ«bas lÄ«menÄ« .The aim of the master's thesis āWaste Sector Management Assessment in Latviaā is to perform a systematically structured assessment of waste sector management to determine how it is based on Directive 2008/98 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on waste and the legal framework. Within this framework, each Member State has the possibility to decide to adapt the system to its national needs in order to meet the objectives and priorities set out in this Directive. When developing the master's thesis, the waste sector was assessed as a socio-ecological system. The paper assessed the EU requirements for waste management in the context of the institutional model and in the context of all groups of management tools. The example of Latvia was compared with the examples of other EU member states - management models introduced in waste management, using the evaluation of the implemented legislation and system, interviews with industry experts, in addition to evaluating waste management at the municipal level

Color poster with text, images, and photographs.The Latvian Exchange Project, "Cultural Perceptions 2010" had students from Latvia and the University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire collaborate to design an international photography exhibit. Eva Ikstena, Dace jaundaldere and Liene Indrane, three Latvian exchange students, presented lectures on the history and peoples of Latvia, and selected music they felt represented Latvian culture.
