An Evaluation of Geotagged Twitter Data during Hurricane Irma using Sentiment Analysis and Topic Modeling for Disaster Resilience
Disasters require quick response times, thought-out preparations, overall community, and government support. These efforts will ensure prevention of loss of life and reduce possible damages. The United States has been battered by multiple major hurricanes in the recent years and multiple avenues of disaster response efforts were being tested. Hurricane Irma can be recognized as the most popular hurricane in terms of social media attention. Irma made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm and preparation measures taken were intensive thus providing a good measure to evaluate in terms of efficacy. The effectiveness of the response methods utilized are evaluated using Twitter data that was collected from September 1st to September 16th, 2017. About 221,598 geotagged tweets were analyzed using sentiment analysis, text visualization, and exploratory analysis. The objective of this research is to establish an observable pattern regarding sentiment trends over the progression of the storm and produce a viable set of topic models for its totality. The study contributed to the literature by identifying which topics and keywords were most frequently used in tweets through sentiment analysis and topic modeling to determine what resources or concerns were most significant within a region during the hurricane Irma. The results from this study demonstrate that the sentiment analysis can measure people’s emotions during the natural disaster, which the authorities can use to limit the damage and effectively recover from the disaster. In this work, we have also reviewed the related works from the text/sentiment analysis, social media analysis from hurricanes/disaster perspective. This research can be further improved by incorporating sentiment analysis methods for classifying emoticons and non-textual components such as videos or images
Ultrasound of the knee during voluntary quadriceps contraction: A technique for detecting otherwise occult effusions
Objective To describe 1) a technique that can detect synovial effusions not seen on static ultrasound (US) examination and 2) the characteristics of patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) for whom this technique proved useful. Methods From reviewed records of 76 patients with knee OA (112 knees) that we had seen for US-guided injections over a defined period, we found 45 knees with no detectable effusion on static US, of which 18 (14 patients) showed fluid when scanned during voluntary quadriceps contraction. For all patients, we had recorded effusion features (physical examination, presence and size on US), and success of joint entry was determined by getting synovial fluid and/or seeing an air echo or inflow of injected material. Results The 14 patients we studied were obese (mean ± SEM body mass index 32.7 ± 2.3 kg/m 2 ; 3 morbidly obese), with moderate to severe OA by radiography in most (Kellgren/Lawrence class 3 or 4 in 10 of 14 knees for which radiographs were available). The suprapatellar synovial space seen by US was small (mean ± SEM depth 0.38 ± 0.04 cm). Arthrocentesis obtained 0.5–16 ml of synovial fluid (mean ± SEM 2.9 ± 0.6 ml), which correlated with the depth of effusion as seen on US with the quadriceps in maximum contraction (Spearman's Ρ = 0.5597, P = 0.0157). In 4 knees where arthrocentesis failed to retrieve fluid, we observed at injection the inflow of material and a linear air echo. Conclusion US of the knee during voluntary quadriceps contraction can find effusions not detectable on static US. Application of laboratory methods for understanding fish responses to black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) based diets
A major challenge for development of sustainable aquafeeds is its dependence on fish meal and fish oil. Replacement with more sustainable, nutritious and safe ingredients is now a priority. Over the last years, among several alternatives proposed, insects have received great attention as possible candidates. In particular, the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens; BSF) represents a concrete example of how the circular economy concept can be applied to fish culture, providing a valuable biomass rich in fat and protein valorising organic by-products. In the last decade, several studies have been published about the use of different BSF dietary inclusion levels for various fish species including experimental models. Varying and encouraging results have been obtained in this research field using a plethora of laboratory methodological approaches that can be applied and coupled to obtain a comprehensive view of the BSF-based diets effects on fish physiology, health, and quality. The present review aims to explore some of the most promising laboratory approaches like histology, infrared spectroscopy, gut microbiome sequencing, molecular biology, fish fillets’ physico-chemical and sensory properties, essential for a better understanding of fish welfare and fillet quality, when BSF is used as aquafeed ingredient. Both a humor and literary magazine, The Pine Needle was a University of Maine student-produced periodical that began publication in the fall of 1946, the first post-World War II semester that saw GIs returning to campus.
The Needle reflected an edginess and rebellion not found in previous UMaine student publications. While past student publications relied on euphemisms for alcohol and dating on campus, The Needle overtly sexualized co-eds and discussed the use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol by students who experienced war.
Cover art for this issue depicts a pen-and-ink illustration by Lloyd Shapleigh (1924-2008), of barefoot man lounging under a tree, reading an issue of New Yorker magazine with a corked jug beside his right elbow.
Lloyd P. Shapleigh, Jr. was born in Bangor, Maine, graduating from high school in 1942 before joining the Army Air Corps during World War II where he qualified as MOE 867-Pathfinder technician and served as a ground crew chief with the 458 Bomb Group (H), 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force. After the war, Shapleigh used the G.I. Bill to earn Bachelor\u27s Degrees at the University of Maine and Rhode Island School of Design.
Shapleigh eventually joined the industrial design team at Whirlpool where, in 1966, he conducted research testing the feasibility of household trash compaction. The trash compactor became the first new, major household appliance released by the Whirlpool corporation since before the war

Advanced Safeguards Approaches for New TRU Fuel Fabrication Facilities
This second report in a series of three reviews possible safeguards approaches for the new transuranic (TRU) fuel fabrication processes to be deployed at AFCF – specifically, the ceramic TRU (MOX) fuel fabrication line and the metallic (pyroprocessing) line. The most common TRU fuel has been fuel composed of mixed plutonium and uranium dioxide, referred to as “MOX”. However, under the Advanced Fuel Cycle projects custom-made fuels with higher contents of neptunium, americium, and curium may also be produced to evaluate if these “minor actinides” can be effectively burned and transmuted through irradiation in the ABR. A third and final report in this series will evaluate and review the advanced safeguards approach options for the ABR. In reviewing and developing the advanced safeguards approach for the new TRU fuel fabrication processes envisioned for AFCF, the existing international (IAEA) safeguards approach at the Plutonium Fuel Production Facility (PFPF) and the conceptual approach planned for the new J-MOX facility in Japan have been considered as a starting point of reference. The pyro-metallurgical reprocessing and fuel fabrication process at EBR-II near Idaho Falls also provided insight for safeguarding the additional metallic pyroprocessing fuel fabrication line planned for AFCF
