    A smart pool search matheuristic for solving a multi-objective microgrid storage planning problem.

    In this paper, a multi-objective power dispatching problem that uses Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) as storage units is considered. The problem involves several PEVs and a microgrid community, composed of small houses, residential areas, and different Renewable Energy Resources. Three different objectives are considered: microgrid total costs; usage of PEV batteries and maximum grid peak load. In order to find sets of non-dominated solutions, a matheuristic black box solves several Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) subproblems. We improve a previously developed MILP model and design a new multi-objective matheuristic including new problem initialization mechanisms

    Análise e teste para o desempenho dos alunos de engenharia de produção e engenharia civil na disciplina de engenharia econômica / Analysis and test for performance of production engineering and civil engineering students in the economic engineering discipline

    A partir da evidência de que a média final dos alunos do curso de engenharia de civil é maior que a do curso de engenharia de produção, quando cursam a disciplina de engenharia econômica conjuntamente, aplicou-se um teste de hipóteses para duas médias com variâncias desconhecidas e distintas com o intuito de verificar a plausibilidade deste indício. Esta pesquisa possui natureza aplicada, do tipo descritiva e se caracteriza por ser uma abordagem quantitativa. Os dados foram coletados a partir dos registros das notas finais dos alunos matriculados na referida disciplina disponibilizados pelo professor da mesma, guardando sigilo sobre os nomes dos alunos. Realizou-se o teste de Komolgorov-Smirnov para atestar a normalidade da distribuição de probabilidade dos dados para poder aplicar o teste t de hipóteses para duas médias. Os resultados sugerem normalidade nos dados e indicam que a média final dos alunos de engenharia civil não é superior a dos alunos de produção na disciplina de engenharia econômica, com um nível de significância de 5%.

    Objective: To compare the use of the radiofrequency thermoablation of the saphenous vein with the ligation technique, and complete removal of the saphenous vein, from the saphenofemoral junction to the ankle. Methods: A total of 49 patients with chronic venous disease in the Comprehensive Classification System for Chronic Venous Disorders (CEAP) classes 2 to 4 for clinical signs, etiology, anatomic distribution and pathophysiology, were assessed at baseline, after 4 weeks, and after 1 year. The parameters assessed were complications, period of absence from activities, Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS) and quality of life scores according to Aberdeen Varicose Veins Questionnaire (AVVQ). They were re-examined 1 and 3 years after treatment to evaluate recurrence rates. Results: The success rate per limb (p=0.540), VCSS (p=0.636), AVVQ (p=0.163), and clinical complications were similar in the two treatment groups. Nevertheless, the radiofrequency thermoablation group had significant shorter length of hospital stay (0.69±0.47) and absence from activities (8.62±4.53), p<000.1. Conclusion: Patients submitted to radiofrequency thermoablation had an occlusion rate, clinical recurrence and improvement in quality of life comparable to removal of the saphenous vein. However, these patients spent less time hospitalized and away from their daily activities during recovering

    A hybrid deep learning forecasting model using GPU disaggregated function evaluations applied for household electricity demand forecasting.

    As the new generation of smart sensors is evolving towards high sampling acquisitions systems, the amount of information to be handled by learning algorithms has been increasing. The Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) architectures provide a greener alternative with low energy consumption for mining big-data, harnessing the power of thousands of processing cores in a single chip, opening a widely range of possible applications. Here, we design a novel evolutionary computing GPU parallel function evaluation mechanism, in which different parts of time series are evaluated by different processing threads. By applying a metaheuristics fuzzy model in a low-frequency data for household electricity demand forecasting, results suggested that the proposed GPU learning strategy is scalable as the number of training rounds increases

    CARGA IMEDIATA SOBRE IMPLANTES EM ÁREA ESTÉTICA: REVISÃO DE LITERATURA.

    Because of the importance of aesthetics today, dental implants have become a good solution for rehabilitation in cases of tooth loss. With the advent of osseointegration, case unit edentulous, partially or totally now be resolved in a period of three to six months, dependent on the jaw or mandibular location. However, the need to promote faster results allowed the proposal for immediate application load on implants were considered. Thus, several studies have shown that a single surgical stage in implantology could be as acceptable and predictable as two, resulting in the possibility of placing a prosthesis on implants that have just been set. In this case, they receive masticatory load after surgical and prosthetic stages, which are conducted at the same moment, without a waiting period for osseointegration process. From this perspective, this paper aims to make a literature review on the performance of immediate loading on implants in the aesthetic area, highlighting its benefits and indications. From the qualitative literature review, based on a review of books, scientific articles published, and specialized magazines, it was concluded that the use of immediate loading is becoming a viable therapeutic option, atraumatic, safe, providing an immediate rehabilitation of function and aesthetics in addition to getting greater acceptance and satisfaction of the patient. However, proper planning is critical, careful execution and adoption of a technique with scientific basis, for the use of this technique is only justified when well indicated and with careful analysis, respecting all clinical determinants and not excluding the conventional technique.Devido à importância da estética nos dias atuais, os implantes dentários tornaram-se uma boa solução para reabilitação em casos de perdas dentárias. Com o advento da osseointegração, casos de edêntulos unitários, parciais ou totais passaram a ser resolvidos em um período de três a seis meses, dependentes da localização maxilar ou mandibular. Mas a necessidade de promover resultados mais rápidos permitiu que a proposta de aplicação imediata de carga sobre implantes fosse considerada. Assim, inúmeros estudos demonstraram que um único estágio cirúrgico em Implantodontia poderia ser tão aceitável e previsível quanto dois, surgindo a possibilidade da colocação de uma prótese sobre implantes que acabaram de ser fixados. Nesse caso, eles recebem carga mastigatória logo após os estágios cirúrgicos e protéticos, que são realizados em um mesmo momento, não havendo um período de espera para o processo de osseointegração. Nessa ótica, o presente trabalho tem o objetivo de fazer uma revisão de literatura sobre a realização de carga imediata sobre implantes em área estética, ressaltando seus benefícios e indicações. A partir da pesquisa bibliográfica qualitativa, baseada na revisão de livros, artigos científicos publicados, e revistas especializadas, concluiu-se que o emprego da carga imediata vem se tornando uma opção terapêutica viável, atraumática, segura, proporcionando uma reabilitação imediata da função e estética, além de obter maior aceitabilidade e satisfação por parte do paciente. Porém, é fundamental o planejamento adequado, execução cuidadosa e adoção de uma técnica com embasamento científico, pois o uso dessa técnica só se justifica quando bem indicada e com análise criteriosa, respeitando todos os determinantes clínicos e sem excluir a técnica convencional

    The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment: Exploring Fundamental Symmetries of the Universe

    The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early Universe, the dynamics of the supernova bursts that produced the heavy elements necessary for life and whether protons eventually decay --- these mysteries at the forefront of particle physics and astrophysics are key to understanding the early evolution of our Universe, its current state and its eventual fate. The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) represents an extensively developed plan for a world-class experiment dedicated to addressing these questions. LBNE is conceived around three central components: (1) a new, high-intensity neutrino source generated from a megawatt-class proton accelerator at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, (2) a near neutrino detector just downstream of the source, and (3) a massive liquid argon time-projection chamber deployed as a far detector deep underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. This facility, located at the site of the former Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota, is approximately 1,300 km from the neutrino source at Fermilab -- a distance (baseline) that delivers optimal sensitivity to neutrino charge-parity symmetry violation and mass ordering effects. This ambitious yet cost-effective design incorporates scalability and flexibility and can accommodate a variety of upgrades and contributions. With its exceptional combination of experimental configuration, technical capabilities, and potential for transformative discoveries, LBNE promises to be a vital facility for the field of particle physics worldwide, providing physicists from around the globe with opportunities to collaborate in a twenty to thirty year program of exciting science.     This article conducts a systematic review of health impacts associated with the use of psychostimulants, encompassing clinical and recreational contexts. The introduction emphasizes the relevance of the topic given the prevalence of these substances and the need to understand their comprehensive effects. The methodology employed involved an extensive literature search on platforms such as PubMed and Scopus, establishing clear inclusion/exclusion criteria, and applying rigorous assessment of the quality of selected studies. In the discussion, we explore the therapeutic benefits of these psychostimulants, highlighting their efficacy in treating conditions such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). However, the analysis also covers physical and mental risks, especially when these substances are used outside the medical context, demonstrating associations with cardiovascular complications and psychiatric disorders. The crucial differentiation between therapeutic and recreational use is emphasized, underscoring the importance of an individualized assessment to understand the risks and benefits associated with each usage context. A metodologia adotada envolveu uma busca bibliográfica extensiva em bases como PubMed e Scopus, estabelecendo critérios claros de inclusão/exclusão e aplicando uma avaliação rigorosa da qualidade dos estudos selecionados. Na discussão, exploramos os benefícios terapêuticos desses psicoestimulantes, evidenciando sua eficácia no tratamento de condições como o Transtorno de Déficit de Atenção e Hiperatividade (TDAH).     Clonal expansion across the seas as seen through CPLP-TB database: A joint effort in cataloguing Mycobacterium tuberculosis genetic diversity in Portuguese-speaking countries.

    Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major health problem within the Community of Portuguese Language Speaking Countries (CPLP). Despite the marked variation in TB incidence across its member-states and continued human migratory flux between countries, a considerable gap in the knowledge on the Mycobacterium tuberculosis population structure and strain circulation between the countries still exists. To address this, we have assembled and analysed the largest CPLP M. tuberculosis molecular and drug susceptibility dataset, comprised by a total of 1447 clinical isolates, including 423 multidrug-resistant isolates, from five CPLP countries. The data herein presented reinforces Latin American and Mediterranean (LAM) strains as the hallmark of M. tuberculosis populational structure in the CPLP coupled with country-specific differential prevalence of minor clades. Moreover, using high-resolution typing by 24-loci MIRU-VNTR, six cross-border genetic clusters were detected, thus supporting recent clonal expansion across the Lusophone space. To make this data available to the scientific community and public health authorities we developed CPLP-TB (available at http://cplp-tb.ff.ulisboa.pt), an online database coupled with web-based tools for exploratory data analysis. As a public health tool, it is expected to contribute to improved knowledge on the M. tuberculosis population structure and strain circulation within the CPLP, thus supporting the risk assessment of strain-specific trends
