Thermal Conductivity of Foamed Concrete Fibre Arenga Pinnata Merr

    Get PDF
The objective of this research is to examine the effect of the palm fibre from arenga pinnata Merr on thermal conductivity of foamed concrete. The sample was made at civil Engineers Departement labolatory with specific gravity of 1.0 and 1.4 with variations of the palm fibre from arenga pinnata Merr are 0.5 %, 1.0 %, and 2.0 %. The sample was packed into (15 x 15 x 1) cm3. The measurement result showed that the thermal conductivity values are increase with the small porosity, i.e. 18 %, on the contrary, the thermal conductivity values are decrease with the large porosity, i.e. 27 %. The thermal conductivity values of concrete the palm fibre from arenga pinnata Merr addiction are 0.47 W/mÂșC, 0.52, W/mÂșC, and 0.44 W/mÂșC for specific gravity values 1.0 with 0.5 %, 2.0 %, and 2 %. It about 0.48 W/mÂșC,  0.45 W/mÂșC and 0.43 W/mÂșC for specific gravity values 1.4 with 0.5 %, 1.5 %, and 2.0 %. In conclusion, the thermal conductivity values of foamed concrete with the palm fibre arenga pinnata Merr addiction has the largest value in specifict gravity 1.0 with 2.0 % of the palm fibre arenga pinnata Merr percentag

Studies of Relation Between Turbidity and Refractive Indeks of Bottled Water in the Area of Banda Aceh by Using Interferometer Murty Method

Bottled water is clean water ready to drink quickly without cooking however, it is not all of the bottled water have a good quality. The quality of water can be observed from the optical properties of water, such as clarity and refractive index. A study has been carried out by using interferometer Murty method to know the relation between turbidity and refractive index of the bottled water. The refractive index measurement was carried out for 20 samples from 10 brands of the bottled water. The result of refractive index measurement shows that the refractive index of the water is about 1,1, in averge on the other hand the refractive index of water based on literature is 1,33. Along with the refractive index measurement by using interferometer Murty, turbidity was also measured by using Turbidimeter. The result of measurement show that there is a relation between turbidity and refractive index. The deviation of refractive index values obtained in this measurement from the literature data is because there are some error in the measurement process. By improving the error, better measurement will allow the interferometer Murty to be used to inspect water clarity

Effect of Temperature and Humidity on the Visibility of Mirage on the Runway of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Aceh, Indonesia

    Get PDF
The relationship between temperature and humidity of the environment with visibility of mirage has been studied by observing mirage on the runway of Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport (SIM) Aceh, Indonesia. Temperature and humidity data were obtained from the Blang Bintang Meteorological Station database, Aceh Besar, Aceh, Indonesia. The observation shows that the mirage has been found since 07.00 AM in the morning until the afternoon at 18.00 PM, even until sunset. Mirage is also still visible when the weather is cloudy or drizzling, but disappears when heavy rain. The lowest and highest temperatures where the mirage can still be observed are 26 0C and 32 0C, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest and highest air humidities where mirages can still be observed are 51 % and 92 %, respectively. Observation shows that changes in temperature and humidity in the runway environment greatly affect the appearance and visibility of mirages. When the air temperature is high and the humidity is low, the mirage appears with high visibility (very thick), so that it can be observed clearly. Conversely, when the air temperature is low and the humidity is high, the mirage appears with low visibility (very thin) or almost non-existent or completely gon

PREPARATION OF INORGANIC CATALYST BASED HEMATITE (a-Fe2O3) COMPOUND EXTRACTED FROM ACEH IRON ORE MINERAL AND ITS CATALYTIC ACTIVITY ON TRANSESTERIFICATION OF COCONUT OIL

Hematite (Fe2O3) was successfully extracted from the Aceh iron ore mineral by precipitation method with employing sulphuricacid (H2SO4) as chemical agent.  Furthermore, the extracted hematite was modified with sodium metal (K), namely it doped with NaOH of 5% and 10% (w/w), respectively. Based on the characterization results using XRD and SEM- EDS proved that modified catalyst (Na2O/Fe2O3) with their homogeneous size were resulted while the hematite (Fe2O3) particles was dopped withNaOH at its low concentration of (5% wt/wt), however while doping with the higher concentration of NaOH (10% w/w), agglomeration was taken place among the catalyst particles in which decreasing the surface area of the modified catalysts. Finally, the modified catalyst (Na2O/Fe2O3) was successfully applied as an inorganic catalyst on transesterification of coconut oil and methanol (T = 55 – 60oC, 2 h)for forming methyl esters asbiodiesel compounds.
