An azimuthally resolved study of the cold front in Abell 3667
The microphysical properties, such as effective viscosity and conductivity, of the weakly magnetized intergalactic plasma are not yet well known. We investigate the constraints that can be placed by an azimuthally resolved study of the cold front in Abell 3667 using similar to 500 ks archival Chandra data. We find that the radius of the interface fluctuates with position angle and the morphology of the interface is strikingly similar to recent numerical simulations of inviscid gas-stripping. We find multiple edges in the surface brightness profiles across the cold front as well as azimuthal variations, which are consistent with the presence of Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities (KHIs) developing along the cold front. They indicate that the characteristic length-scale of KHI rolls is around 20-80 kpc. This is the first observational indication of developing KHIs along a merger cold front in a galaxy cluster. Based on the KHI scenario, we estimated the upper limit of the intracluster medium effective viscosity. The estimated value of mu less than or similar to 200 g cm(-1) s(-1) is at most 5 per cent of the isotropic Spitzer-like viscosity. The observed apparent mixing towards the outer edges away from the tip of the front provides an additional evidence for suppressed viscosity
Prospect for Future MeV Gamma-ray Active Galactic Nuclei Population Studies
While the X-ray, GeV gamma-ray, and TeV gamma-ray skies have been extensively
studied, the MeV gamma-ray sky is not well investigated after the Imaging
Compton Telescope (COMPTEL) scanned the sky about two decades ago. In this
paper, we investigate prospects for active galactic nuclei population studies
with future MeV gamma-ray missions using recent spectral models and luminosity
functions of Seyfert and flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs). Both of them are
plausible candidates as the origins of the cosmic MeV gamma-ray background. If
the cosmic MeV gamma-ray background radiation is dominated by non-thermal
emission from Seyferts, the sensitivity of 10^-12 erg cm^-2 s^-1 is required to
detect several hundred Seyferts in the entire sky. If FSRQs make up the cosmic
MeV gamma-ray background, the sensitivity of ~4 x 10^-12 erg cm^-2 s^-1 is
required to detect several hundred FSRQs following the recent FSRQ X-ray
luminosity function. However, based on the latest FSRQ gamma-ray luminosity
function, with which FSRQs can explain up to ~30% of the MeV background, we can
expect several hundred FSRQs even with the sensitivity of 10^-11 erg cm^-2 s^-1
which is almost the same as the sensitivity goal of the next generation MeV

Pretransplant serum ferritin and C-reactive protein as predictive factors for early bacterial infection after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation.
Although fluoroquinolones or other antibiotics are commonly used to prevent bacterial infections after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), because of the growing presence of multidrug-resistant microorganisms, it is important to identify patients who are more likely to benefit from antibacterial prophylaxis. To evaluate risk factors for early bacterial infection after allogeneic HCT, we retrospectively analyzed clinical data for 112 consecutive adult patients with hematological malignancies who received transplants without any antibacterial prophylaxis. The cumulative incidence of bacterial infection at 30 days after transplantation was 16%. Among various pre-transplant factors, only high serum ferritin (>700 ng/mL, 47 patients) and high C-reactive protein (CRP) (>0.3 mg/dL, 28 patients) levels were significantly associated with the development of bacterial infection in a multivariate analysis (hazard ratio (95% confidence interval): ferritin, 4.00 (1.32-12.17); CRP, 3.64 (1.44-9.20)). In addition, septic shock and sepsis with organ failure were exclusively observed in patients who had high ferritin and/or high CRP levels. These results suggest that pretransplant serum ferritin and CRP levels can be useful markers for predicting the risk of early bacterial infection after allogeneic HCT. It may be prudent to limit antibacterial prophylaxis to patients with predefined risk factors to ensure the safety of HCT with the use of fewer antibiotics
