ANÁLISE ESTRATÉGICA NERINT

The acceleration of pace of international events and processes requires a qualified analysis without the political-journalistic bias that often characterizes them. Thus, in addition to theoretical-analytical articles, we consider it necessary to publish a brief evaluation of important current events. To this end, the Brazilian Center for Strategy and International Relations (NERINT/UFRGS), member of the Center for International Studies on Government (CEGOV/UFRGS), launched the NERINT Strategic Analysis series, with the contribution of its specialized researchers and guests with thematic expertise. It will be published at the end of each volume of Austral: Brazilian Journal of Strategy and International Relations, starting with an assessment of Post-Trump Diplomacy, conflicts in Russia’s “near abroad” and the Strategic Lessons of World War II on its 75th anniversary. Since the 1990s, Itamaraty has been promoting the formation of qualified national academic personnel on themes and countries relevant to Brazilian diplomacy, business and defense. Para tanto, o Núcleo Brasileiro de Estratégia e Relações Internacionais (NERINT/UFRGS), integrante de Centro de Estudos Internacionais sobre Governo (CEGOV/UFRGS), lançou a Análise Estratégica NERINT, com a contribuição de seus pesquisadores especializados e de convidados com expertise temática. Ela será publicada ao final de cada volume da Austral: Revista Brasileira de Estratégia e Relações Internacionais, iniciando com uma avaliação da Diplomacia Pós-Trump, dos conflitos no entorno da Rússia e das Lições Estratégicas da II Guerra Mundial em seu 75° aniversário. Desde os anos 1990 o Itamaraty vem defendendo a formação de quadros acadêmicos qualificados nacionais sobre temas e países relevantes para a diplomacia, os negócios e a defesa do Brasil. O esforço de formação dos mesmos, via fomento de pós-graduação, está dando resultados, e o Brasil já conta com professores e pesquisadores de nível internacional

Anodização a plasma eletrolítico de Ti6Al4V com variação no tempo e concentração do eletrólito para aplicação biomédica. / Plasma electrolytic oxidation of Ti6Al4V with variation in sample exposure time for biomedical application.

Devido a sua alta biocompatibilidade, há anos o titânio tem sido utilizado como biomaterial. O metal possui baixo módulo de elasticidade, diminuindo a taxa de rejeição, maior resistência a corrosão e também apresenta crescimento espontâneo de camada de óxido (TiO2) em sua superfície, o que melhora a osseointegração. Para melhorar essas propriedades, técnicas como a oxidação a plasma eletrolítico (em inglês, PEO) foram desenvolvidas. O processo estimula a formação de poros na superfície do metal, favorecendo a ancoragem óssea. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estudar a variação do tempo e da concentração do eletrólito no tratamento de amostras de Ti-6Al4V submetidas ao processo de oxidação a plasma com corrente contínua. Os eletrólitos foram utilizados com as seguintes concentrações: 0,5 M de H2SO4 (ácido sulfúrico) com 0,25 M de H3PO4 (ácido fosfórico) e 1 M de H2 SO4 com 1,5 M H3PO4. As amostras foram tratadas por 60, 90 e 120 segundos, a uma distância de 50 mm do contraeletrodo, com tensão de 180 V. As análises foram realizadas no MEV (Microscopia eletrônica de varredura), dentro da UTFPR. Os resultados apresentaram crescimento de camada de óxido em alguns pontos das amostras analisadas, porém o tratamento realizado não apresentou resultados adequados para aplicação biomédica

Análise do crescimento de camada de óxido de Titânio por OPE em TiAlV para -aplicação biomédica / Analysis of the growth of titanium oxide layer by OPE in TiAlV for biomedical application

Tratamentos de superfície para aplicação biomédica buscam promover melhor osseointegração e menor taxa de rejeição do implante, através do crescimento de uma camada de óxido porosa que auxilia na adesão celular. Este trabalho analisou alguns parâmetros cruciais para o crescimento de óxido de titânio numa liga de Ti6Al4V, a fim de auxiliar nesses processos. Por formar camadas com a topografia esperada para essa aplicação, o processo de oxidação por plasma eletrolítico foi o utilizado nesta pesquisa. Utilizaram-se duas soluções, uma de 1 M H2SO4 e 1,5 M H3PO4, e outra de 0,5 M H2SO4 e 0,25 M H3PO4; diferentes tensões para abertura de arco e tempo de exposição diferentes em cada solução, 180 V e 60 s para a primeira, e 250 V e 90 s para a segunda, a fonte utilizada era de corrente direta. Apesar de também ter se variado a distância, os filmes de óxido formados eram localizados em apenas algumas áreas da amostra.

Urothelial carcinoma transmission via kidney transplantation

Transmission of urothelial carcinoma via solid organ transplant has never been reported in the literature to our knowledge. We report a case of transmission of this tumour to a kidney recipient. The donor was a 37-year-old woman, victim of a subarachnoid haemorrhage. The recipient was a 21-year-old girl, with a history of chronic kidney disease secondary to neurogenic bladder. This fatality has been rarely described in literature, but never with this histological type of cancer. Nowadays, with the expanded criteria for donation, older people are accepted as donor because of the shortage of organs. However, this may increase the likelihood of the number of cancer transmission

Renal autotransplantation to treat renal artery aneurysm: case report

CONTEXT: Renal artery aneurysm (RAA) is uncommon and usually asymptomatic, but complications like rupture or thromboembolism of the aneurysm can occur, with consequent renal infarction. Most of the clinical findings are found incidentally through imaging examinations, in investigating other diseases. Renal autotransplantation (RAT) is an alternative treatment for complex RAA, with satisfactory results described in the literature.CASE REPORT: The patient was a 48-year-old man with a history of systemic arterial hypertension, thrombocytopenia and advanced hepatosplenic schistosomiasis. He complained of right lumbar pain, which was investigated through imaging examinations (computed tomography and angiotomography). These revealed right RAA of 2.5 cm in diameter. Evaluation by the vascular surgery team found that this was untreatable using endovascular methods. The treatment performed was open right nephrectomy with kidney preservation in solution, followed by aneurysmectomy, suturing of the injured artery and kidney reimplantation in the right iliac fossa with anastomosis of the iliac vessels and ureter. The durations of the surgery and kidney ischemia were 385 and 140 minutes, respectively. The patient was discharged on the 20th postoperative day, with creatinine concentration of 1.4 mg/dL, urea 41 mg/dL, urine volume 1400 mL/24 h and ascites treated with diuretics.CONCLUSION: RAT is indicated basically in three situations: extracorporeal reconstruction of complex aneurysms of the renal pedicle, extensive ureteral injury, and conservative kidney cancer surgery in patients with a single kidney. This study presents a case of a patient with advanced liver disease and RAA that was untreatable using endovascular methods and was successfully treated using RAT
