Fermi level pinning on Si0.83Ge0.17 surface by inductively coupled plasma treatment
Effects of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) treatment on Fermi level pinning on the surface of Si0.83 Ge0.17 was studied by current-voltage and x-ray photoemission spectroscopy measurements. ICP treatment induced the growth of silicon oxide, suggesting that Si vacancies are generated under the oxide. From linear fitting of Schottky barrier heights with metal work functions, it was found that surface state density increased from 6.60?? 1012 to 1.13?? 1013 cm2 eV by the ICP treatment, leading to the pinning of surface Fermi level about EC ???0.53 eV. From this, it is suggested that the Si vacancies are the main surface states in pinning Fermi level on the ICP-treated surface.open1
A writable programmable logic array
This thesis contains the analysis, design, and implementation of a writable programmable logic array integrated circuit. The WPLA is able to be reprogrammed any number of times as needed. A content addressable scheme is proposed to conduct READ, WRITE, and SEARCH operations in the WPLA. The WPLA is programmed by writing binary data into storage cells associated with each node in the AND/OR planes of the array; the binary data then form the personalities of the PLA. The layout of the WPLA will be implemented using Mentor Graphic\u27s CHIPGRAPH layout editor with 2 µm NMOS technology and MOSIS design rules. The event-driven logic level simulator QUICKSIM, and a MOS circuit level simulator MSIMON, are used to verify the functional and timing behavior of the WPLA

Feeding the Worlth Healthily: the Challenge of Measuring the effects of Agriculture on Health
Agricultural production, food systems and population health are intimately linked. While there is a strong evidence base to inform our knowledge of what constitutes a healthy human diet, we know little about actual food production or consumption in many populations and how developments in the food and agricultural system will affect dietary intake patterns and health. The paucity of information on food production and consumption is arguably most acute in low- and middle-income countries, where it is most urgently needed to monitor levels of under-nutrition, the health impacts of rapid dietary transition and the increasing ‘double burden’ of nutrition-related disease. Food availability statistics based on food commodity production data are currently widely used as a proxy measure of national-level food consumption, but using data from the UK and Mexico we highlight the potential pitfalls of this approach. Despite limited resources for data collection, better systems of measurement are possible. Important drivers to improve collection systems may include efforts to meet international development goals and partnership with the private sector. A clearer understanding of the links between the agriculture and food system and population health will ensure that health becomes a critical driver of agricultural change
