Transplantable Subcutaneous Hepatoma 22a Affects Functional Activity of Resident Tissue Macrophages in Periphery

Tumors spontaneously develop central necroses due to inadequate blood supply. Recent data indicate that dead cells and their products are immunogenic to the host. We hypothesized that macrophage tumor-dependent reactions can be mediated differentially by factors released from live or dead tumor cells. In this study, functional activity of resident peritoneal macrophages was investigated in parallel with tumor morphology during the growth of syngeneic nonimmunogenic hepatoma 22a. Morphometrical analysis of tumor necroses, mitoses and leukocyte infiltration was performed in histological sections. We found that inflammatory potential of peritoneal macrophages in tumor-bearing mice significantly varied depending on the stage of tumor growth and exhibited two peaks of activation as assessed by nitroxide and superoxide anion production, 5′-nucleotidase activity and pinocytosis. Increased inflammatory reactions were not followed by the enhancement of angiogenic potential as assessed by Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor mRNA expression. Phases of macrophage activity corresponded to the stages of tumor growth characterized by high proliferative potential. The appearance and further development of necrotic tissue inside the tumor did not coincide with changes in macrophage behavior and therefore indirectly indicated that activation of macrophages was a reaction mostly to the signals produced by live tumor cells

Purpose: The article contains research on internal factors of irrational behaviour initiated by the objective to reveal correlation between individual and personal, psychological peculiarities and irrational behavior in life situations. Design/Methodology/Approach: The article is based on a hypothesis that there is a correlation between personal peculiarities and an irrational choice when students of economic HEIs make decisions of economic nature. Such life-purpose orientations as “Locus of control Me” and “Locus of control Life” are connected with irrational economic behavior. Findings: The study allows enriching the subject field of behavioral economics from the point of view of the specificity of economic and psychological characteristics, attitudes towards an economic choice, and the identification of emotional and personal indicators of irrational behavior. It has been revealed that the psychological characteristics of a person (mental processes, orientation of an individual, life-purpose orientations) influence students' irrational economic behavior. Practical Implications: The results of the study can be used by economic institutions (HEIs) in the selection of students for educational programs. The developed diagnostic game technique, the styles of irrational behavior described by the authors can be used in the practice of the educational process of economic HEIs or in assessing the propensity to make irrational economic decisions in other areas of human activity Originality/Value: The main contribution of this study is the clarification of factors of finacial behavior of youth.peer-reviewe

    Get PDF
Effect of annealing at temperature range of 573–823 K on stability of the ultrafine-grained structure of the Zr-1wt.%Nb alloy was studied by methods of transmission electron microscopy. Growth kinetics of grain–subgrain structure elements of alloy was investigated

Effect of nonequilibrium hydrogen release in the ultrafine-grained Zr-1Nb alloy under the electron beam exposure

    Get PDF
The evolution of structural and phase state and hydrogen release from the ultrafine-grained hydrogenated zirconium Zr-1Nb alloy during vacuum annealing and electron beams exposure were studied. The use of electron beam irradiation for hydrogen degassing is shown to decrease the temperature of active hydrogen release by 100-200 K and/or reduce the time required for hydrogen degassing from the alloy to concentrations corresponding to technical standards

Properties of the VT1-0 titanium surface modified by a pulsed ion beam

    Get PDF
The physicomechanical properties of the VT1-0 titanium surface modified by a pulsed carbon ion beam at a pulse duration of 80 ns, an energy of 200 keV, a current density of 120 A/cm2, an energy density of 1.92 J/cm2, and various numbers of pulses (four regimes) are studied. Irradiation by the beam leads to hardening of a 1.8-μm-thick surface layer in titanium, a decrease in the hydrogen sorption rate, a decrease in the grain size, and the formation of twins

the main aim of the study is to investigate the issues of pedagogy and technology of local history studies applied in training Bachelors of Education at a pedagogical University. The authors describe results of experimental work carried out at Stary Oskol branch of Belgorod State National Research University and approbation of local pedagogical history technology. Regarding the methods used in the study, we consider the training system containing local history concepts is made up by the following components: the training process, educational activities and research, teacher’s internship, extracurricular and outreach activities. The outcomes of the study demonstrate that local pedagogical history contributes significantly to training Bachelors of Education

Review of the Digital Twin Technology Applications for Electrical Equipment Lifecycle Management

    Get PDF
Digital twin is one of the emerging technologies for the digital transformation of the power industry. Many existing studies claim that the widespread application of digital twins will shift the industry to a principally new level of development. This article provides an extensive overview of the industrial application experience of digital twin technologies for solving the problems of modern power systems with a particular focus on the task of high-voltage power equipment lifecycle management. The latter task contours one of the most promising areas for the application of the digital twins in the power industry since it requires deep analysis of the technological processes dynamics and the development of physical, mathematical and computer models that cover all the potential benefits of the digital twin technology. At the moment, there is a lack of reliable data on the problems of assessing and predicting the technical state of high-voltage power equipment. The use of digital twin technology in modern power systems will allow for aggregating data from a variety of real objects and will allow the automatization of collecting and processing of big data by implementing artificial intelligence methods, which will ultimately make it possible to manage the life cycle of the power equipment. The article puts to scrutiny the industrial experience of digital twins creation, considering the technical solutions suggested by the largest manufacturers of electrical equipment. A classification of digital twins, examples and main features of their application in the power industry, including the problem of managing the life cycle of high-voltage electrical equipment, are considered and discussed. © 2023 by the authors.Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, MinobrnaukaThe research funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (Ural Federal University Program of Development within the Priority-2030 Program) is gratefully acknowledged

The Challenge of Machine Learning in Space Weather Nowcasting and Forecasting

    Get PDF
The numerous recent breakthroughs in machine learning (ML) make imperative to carefully ponder how the scientific community can benefit from a technology that, although not necessarily new, is today living its golden age. This Grand Challenge review paper is focused on the present and future role of machine learning in space weather. The purpose is twofold. On one hand, we will discuss previous works that use ML for space weather forecasting, focusing in particular on the few areas that have seen most activity: the forecasting of geomagnetic indices, of relativistic electrons at geosynchronous orbits, of solar flares occurrence, of coronal mass ejection propagation time, and of solar wind speed. On the other hand, this paper serves as a gentle introduction to the field of machine learning tailored to the space weather community and as a pointer to a number of open challenges that we believe the community should undertake in the next decade. The recurring themes throughout the review are the need to shift our forecasting paradigm to a probabilistic approach focused on the reliable assessment of uncertainties, and the combination of physics-based and machine learning approaches, known as gray-box.Comment: under revie
