Re-embedding a 1-Plane Graph into a Straight-line Drawing in Linear Time
Thomassen characterized some 1-plane embedding as the forbidden configuration
such that a given 1-plane embedding of a graph is drawable in straight-lines if
and only if it does not contain the configuration [C. Thomassen, Rectilinear
drawings of graphs, J. Graph Theory, 10(3), 335-341, 1988].
In this paper, we characterize some 1-plane embedding as the forbidden
configuration such that a given 1-plane embedding of a graph can be re-embedded
into a straight-line drawable 1-plane embedding of the same graph if and only
if it does not contain the configuration. Re-embedding of a 1-plane embedding
preserves the same set of pairs of crossing edges.
We give a linear-time algorithm for finding a straight-line drawable 1-plane
re-embedding or the forbidden configuration.Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 24th International Symposium on

Thermodynamics and magnetic field profiles in low-kappa type-II superconductors
Two-dimensional low-kappa type-II superconductors are studied numerically
within the Eilenberger equations of superconductivity. Depending on the
Ginzburg-Landau parameter \kappa=\lambda/\xi vortex-vortex interaction can be
attractive or purely repulsive. The sign of interaction is manifested as a
first (second) order phase transition from Meissner to the mixed state.
Temperature and field dependence of the magnetic field distribution in
low-kappa type-II superconductors with attractive intervortex interaction is
calculated. Theoretical results are compared to the experiment.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Knowledge Annotation within Research Data Management System for Oxygen-Free Production Technologies
The comprehensive implementation of digital technologies in product manufacturing leads to changes in engineering processes and requires new approaches to data management. An important role belongs to the processes of organizing the collection, storage and reuse of research data obtained and used in the process of product, system or technology development, taking into account the FAIR data principles. This article describes a Research Data Management System for the organization of documentation and measurement requests in the research and development of new oxygen-free production technologies
Nucleon-nucleon elastic scattering analysis to 2.5 GeV
A partial-wave analysis of NN elastic scattering data has been completed.
This analysis covers an expanded energy range, from threshold to a laboratory
kinetic energy of 2.5 GeV, in order to include recent elastic pp scattering
data from the EDDA collaboration. The results of both single-energy and
energy-dependent analyses are described.Comment: 23 pages of text. Postscript files for the figures are available from

Radiative Transfer in Obliquely Illuminated Accretion Disks
The illumination of an accretion disk around a black hole or neutron star by
the central compact object or the disk itself often determines its spectrum,
stability, and dynamics. The transport of radiation within the disk is in
general a multi-dimensional, non-axisymmetric problem, which is challenging to
solve. Here, I present a method of decomposing the radiative transfer equation
that describes absorption, emission, and Compton scattering in an obliquely
illuminated disk into a set of four one-dimensional transfer equations. I show
that the exact calculation of the ionization balance and radiation heating of
the accretion disk requires the solution of only one of the one-dimensional
equations, which can be solved using existing numerical methods. I present a
variant of the Feautrier method for solving the full set of equations, which
accounts for the fact that the scattering kernels in the individual transfer
equations are not forward-backward symmetric. I then apply this method in
calculating the albedo of a cold, geometrically thin accretion disk.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures; to appear in The Astrophysical Journa
Publication trends of shared decision making in 15 high impact medical journals: a full-text review with bibliometric analysis.
BACKGROUND: Shared Decision Making (SDM) is increasingly advocated as a model for medical decision making. However, there is still low use of SDM in clinical practice. High impact factor journals might represent an efficient way for its dissemination. We aimed to identify and characterize publication trends of SDM in 15 high impact medical journals.
METHODS: We selected the 15 general and internal medicine journals with the highest impact factor publishing original articles, letters and editorials. We retrieved publications from 1996 to 2011 through the full-text search function on each journal website and abstracted bibliometric data. We included publications of any type containing the phrase "shared decision making" or five other variants in their abstract or full text. These were referred to as SDM publications. A polynomial Poisson regression model with logarithmic link function was used to assess the evolution across the period of the number of SDM publications according to publication characteristics.
RESULTS: We identified 1285 SDM publications out of 229,179 publications in 15 journals from 1996 to 2011. The absolute number of SDM publications by journal ranged from 2 to 273 over 16 years. SDM publications increased both in absolute and relative numbers per year, from 46 (0.32% relative to all publications from the 15 journals) in 1996 to 165 (1.17%) in 2011. This growth was exponential (P < 0.01). We found fewer research publications (465, 36.2% of all SDM publications) than non-research publications, which included non-systematic reviews, letters, and editorials. The increase of research publications across time was linear. Full-text search retrieved ten times more SDM publications than a similar PubMed search (1285 vs. 119 respectively).
CONCLUSION: This review in full-text showed that SDM publications increased exponentially in major medical journals from 1996 to 2011. This growth might reflect an increased dissemination of the SDM concept to the medical community
Semantic disambiguation and contextualisation of social tags
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-28509-7_18This manuscript is an extended version of the paper ‘cTag: Semantic Contextualisation of Social Tags’, presented at the 6th International Workshop on Semantic Adaptive Social Web (SASWeb 2011).We present an algorithmic framework to accurately and efficiently identify the semantic meanings and contexts of social tags within a particular folksonomy. The framework is used for building contextualised tag-based user and item profiles. We also present its implementation in a system called cTag, with which we preliminary analyse semantic meanings and contexts of tags belonging to Delicious and MovieLens folksonomies. The analysis includes a comparison between semantic similarities obtained for pairs of tags in Delicious folksonomy, and their semantic distances in the whole Web, according to co-occurrence based metrics computed with results of a Web search engine. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science

Efficient training of RBF networks for classification.
Radial Basis Function networks with linear outputs are often used in regression problems because they can be substantially faster to train than Multi-layer Perceptrons. For classification problems, the use of linear outputs is less appropriate as the outputs are not guaranteed to represent probabilities. We show how RBFs with logistic and softmax outputs can be trained efficiently using the Fisher scoring algorithm. This approach can be used with any model which consists of a generalised linear output function applied to a model which is linear in its parameters. We compare this approach with standard non-linear optimisation algorithms on a number of datasets
