Magnetic and spectral properties of multi-sublattice oxides SrY2O4:Er3+ and SrEr2O4
SrEr2O4 is a geometrically frustrated magnet which demonstrates rather
unusual properties at low temperatures including a coexistence of long- and
short-range magnetic order, characterized by two different propagation vectors.
In the present work, the effects of crystal fields (CF) in this compound
containing four magnetically inequivalent erbium sublattices are investigated
experimentally and theoretically. We combine the measurements of the CF levels
of the Er3+ ions made on a powder sample of SrEr2O4 using neutron spectroscopy
with site-selective optical and electron paramagnetic resonance measurements
performed on single crystal samples of the lightly Er-doped nonmagnetic
analogue, SrY2O4. Two sets of CF parameters corresponding to the Er3+ ions at
the crystallographically inequivalent lattice sites are derived which fit all
the available experimental data well, including the magnetization and dc
susceptibility data for both lightly doped and concentrated samples.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figure
Magnetocaloric effect in pyrochlore antiferromagnet Gd2Ti2O7
An adiabatic demagnetization process is studied in Gd2Ti2O7, a geometrically
frustrated antiferromagnet on a pyrochlore lattice. In contrast to conventional
paramagnetic salts, this compound can exhibit a temperature decrease by a
factor of ten in the temperature range below the Curie-Weiss constant. The most
efficient cooling is observed in the field interval between 120 and 60 kOe
corresponding to a crossover between saturated and spin-liquid phases. This
phenomenon indicates that a considerable part of the magnetic entropy survives
in the strongly correlated state. According to the theoretical model, this
entropy is associated with a macroscopic number of local modes remaining
gapless till the saturation field. Monte Carlo simulations on a classical spin
model demonstrate good agreement with the experiment. The cooling power of the
process is experimentally estimated with a view to possible technical
applications. The results for Gd2Ti2O7 are compared to those for Gd3Ga5O12, a
well-known material for low temperature magnetic refrigeration.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, accepted versio
Field induced transitions in a kagome antiferromagnet
The thermal order by disorder effect in magnetic field is studied for a
classical Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagome lattice. Using analytical
arguments we predict a unique H-T phase diagram for this strongly frustrated
magnet: states with a coplanar and a uniaxial triatic order parameters
respectively at low and high magnetic fields and an incompressible collinear
spin-liquid state at a one-third of the saturation field. We also present the
Monte Carlo data which confirm existence of these phases.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, accepted versio
Distinguishing sequences for partially specified FSMs
Distinguishing Sequences (DSs) are used inmany Finite State Machine (FSM) based test techniques. Although Partially Specified FSMs (PSFSMs) generalise FSMs, the computational complexity of constructing Adaptive and Preset DSs (ADSs/PDSs) for PSFSMs has not been addressed. This paper shows that it is possible to check the existence of an ADS in polynomial time but the corresponding problem for PDSs is PSPACE-complete. We also report on the results of experiments with benchmarks and over 8 * 106 PSFSMs. © 2014 Springer International Publishing
Field induced ordering in highly frustrated antiferromagnets
We predict that an external field can induce a spin order in highly
frustrated classical Heisenberg magnets. We find analytically stabilization of
collinear states by thermal fluctuations at a one-third of the saturation field
for kagome and garnet lattices and at a half of the saturation field for
pyrochlore and frustrated square lattices. This effect is studied numerically
for the frustrated square-lattice antiferromagnet by Monte Carlo simulations
for classical spins and by exact diagonalization for . The field induced
collinear states have a spin gap and produce magnetization plateaus.Comment: 4 pages, new analytical proof the order by disorder by thermal

Power-law spin correlations in pyrochlore antiferromagnets
The ground state ensemble of the highly frustrated pyrochlore-lattice
antiferromagnet can be mapped to a coarse-grained ``polarization'' field
satisfying a zero-divergence condition From this it follows that the
correlations of this field, as well as the actual spin correlations, decay with
separation like a dipole-dipole interaction (). Furthermore, a lattice
version of the derivation gives an approximate formula for spin correlations,
with several features that agree well with simulations and neutron-diffraction
measurements of diffuse scattering, in particular the pinch-point
(pseudo-dipolar) singularities at reciprocal lattice vectors. This system is
compared to others in which constraints also imply diffraction singularities,
and other possible applications of the coarse-grained polarization are
discussed.Comment: 13 pp, revtex, two figure
Order by quenched disorder in the model triangular antiferromagnet RbFe(MoO4)2
We observe a disappearance of the 1/3 magnetization plateau and a striking change of the magnetic configuration under a moderate doping of the model triangular antiferromagnet RbFe(MoO4)2. The reason is an effective lifting of degeneracy of mean-field ground states by a random potential of impurities, which compensates, in the low-temperature limit, the fluctuation contribution to free energy. These results provide a direct experimental confirmation of the fluctuation origin of the ground state in a real frustrated system. The change of the ground state to a least collinear configuration reveals an effective positive biquadratic exchange provided by the structural disorder. On heating, doped samples regain the structure of a pure compound, thus allowing for an investigation of the remarkable competition between thermal and structural disorder
Quasi two-dimensional antiferromagnet on a triangular lattice RbFe(MoO4)2
RbFe(MoO4)2 is a rare example of a nearly two-dimensional Heisenberg
antiferromagnet on a triangular lattice. Magnetic resonance spectra and
magnetization curves reveal that the system has a layered spin structure with
six magnetic sublattices. The sublattices within a layer are arranged in a
triangular manner with the magnetization vectors 120 degree apart. The H-T
phase diagram, containing at least five different magnetic phases is
constructed. In zero field, RbFe(MoO4)2 undergoes a phase transition at T_N=3.8
K into a non-collinear triangular spin structure with all the spins confined in
the basal plane. The application of an in-plane magnetic field induces a
collinear spin state between the fields H_c1=47 kOe and H_c2=71 kOe and
produces a magnetization plateau at one-third of the saturation moment. Both
the ESR and the magnetization measurements also clearly indicate an additional
first-order phase transition in a field of 35 kOe. The exact nature of this
phase transition is uncertain.Comment: 9 pages incl 11 figure
Контроллер нечеткой логики на основе генетических алгоритмов для электропривода тележки подъемного крана
The paper describes a methodology based on the genetic algorithm that permits to automate the process for obtaining optimum rule bases while applying a controller based on a fuzzy logic. Using a specific structure of a chromosome, a special mutation operation and an adequate fitness function the proposed methodology makes it possible to select a fuzzy rule base, to minimize a number of rules, rationally to place input sets of fuzzy functions and corresponding arrangement of output singletons in the form of single-element sets. The paper presents an example when the methodology allows to reduce a number of rules by two fold and, consequently, calculative control procedure without any deterioration in quality control.
Influence of complex defects on electrophysical properties of GaP light emitting diodes
In order to estimate the role of complex defects on GaP light emitting diodes
(LED) operation, luminescent and electrical characteristics of GaP LEDs irradiated with
reactor neutrons have been studied. It has been stated that nonradiative levels of radiation
defects affect electroluminescence quenching. From the analysis of the tunnel current,
the density of dislocations in the depleted part of the p–n junction was obtained. Neutron
induced disorder regions do not change the tunnel component of the direct current of red
diodes, increasing the dislocation density, because the carrier flow along the “tunnel
shunts” is blocked
