Explosive first-order transition to synchrony in networked chaotic oscillators
Critical phenomena in complex networks, and the emergence of dynamical abrupt
transitions in the macroscopic state of the system are currently a subject of
the outmost interest. We report evidence of an explosive phase synchronization
in networks of chaotic units. Namely, by means of both extensive simulations of
networks made up of chaotic units, and validation with an experiment of
electronic circuits in a star configuration, we demonstrate the existence of a
first order transition towards synchronization of the phases of the networked
units. Our findings constitute the first prove of this kind of synchronization
in practice, thus opening the path to its use in real-world applications.Comment: Phys. Rev. Lett. in pres
Social Cohesion Constrution in the Space of the Astana Gunungjati
Astana Gunungjati is a complex of cemeteries for Cirebon Sultanate kings and their descendants. The Kasepuhan Palace, Kanoman Palace, and Kacirebonan Palace are the three palaces or known as keraton that still serves as the current physical representation of the Cirebon Sultanate. Sunan Gunungjati, one of the kings, is also a Muslim evangelist or the Wali Songo, who is interred at Astana Gunungjati. One of the pilgrimage tourism attractions in Cirebon Regency is the tomb complex. Although the heritage values of the buildings and traditions are still well preserved, the social cohesion that is formed from the existence of the cemetery which has been established since the 14th century is not well documented. A component of the area’s intangible assets that must be documented for area conservation is social cohesion. The purpose of the research is to describe how the Astana Gunungjati space was built and how it contributed to social cohesiveness. The Assabiyah Concept from Ibn Khaldun is the approach method that is applied, along with the hermeneutic approach. The findings show the quality of the community such as (1) obedience to unwritten rules; (2) pride and sincerity to be a kuncen; (3) recognition of the existence of Sunan Gunungjati as King and Guardian who brings the truth of Islam. The study findings in the form of the construction of social cohesion became the material for the documentation of intangible heritage in this area.

Correspondence Model Of Occupational Accidents
We present a new generalized model for the diagnosis and prediction of accidents among the Spanish workforce. Based on observational data of the accident rate in all Spanish companies over eleven years (7,519,732 accidents), we classified them in a new risk-injury contingency table (19x19). Through correspondence analysis, we obtained a structure composed of three axes whose combination identifies three separate risk and injury groups, which we used as a general Spanish pattern. The most likely or frequent relationships between the risk and injuries identified in the pattern facilitated the decision-making process in companies at an early stage of risk assessment. Each risk-injury group has its own characteristics, which are understandable within the phenomenological framework of the accident. The main advantages of this model are its potential application to any other country and the feasibility of contrasting different country results. One limiting factor, however, is the need to set a common classification framework for risks and injuries to enhance comparison, a framework that does not exist today. Proposal of a methodology for implementing a service-oriented architecture in distributed manufacturing systems
As envisioned by Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS), Next Generation Manufacturing Systems (NGMS) will satisfy the needs of an increasingly fast-paced and demanding market by dynamically integrating systems from inside and outside the manufacturing firm itself into a so-called extended enterprise. However, organizing these systems to ensure the maximum flexibility and interoperability with those from other organizations is difficult. Additionally, a defect in the system would have a great impact: it would affect not only its owner, but also its partners. For these reasons, we argue that a service-oriented architecture (SOA) would be a good candidate. It should be designed following a methodology where services play a central role, instead of being an implementation detail. In order for the architecture to be reliable enough as a whole, the methodology will need to help find errors before they arise in a production environment. In this paper we propose using SOA-specific testing techniques, compare some of the existing methodologies and outline several extensions upon one of them to integrate testing techniques

A prototype of the AMS Cherenkov imager (RICH) has been tested at CERN by
means of a low intensity 20 GeV/c per nucleon ion beam obtained by
fragmentation of a primary beam of Pb ions. Data have been collected with a
single beam setting, over the range of nuclear charges 2<Z<~45 in various beam
conditions and using different radiators. The charge Z and velocity beta

No evidence that wild red deer (Cervus elaphus) on the Iberian Peninsula are a reservoir of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis infection
The potential role of red deer (Cervus elaphus) as a reservoir of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) infection is largely unknown. A total of 332 wild red deer were investigated using post-mortem examination, bacteriology and serology. Only three animals (1.12%) were found to have lesions on histopathological examination and no MAP bacteria were recovered on culture. The results suggest it is unlikely that wild red deer make a significant contribution to the maintenance of MAP infection in the region. The cross-reactivity of the ELISAs used indicates this diagnostic modality is ineffective in the detection of MAP infection in this species. The implications of these results for the control of this important pathogen in both livestock and wildlife are discussed
