Revivals, classical periodicity, and zitterbewegung of electron currents in monolayer graphene
Revivals of electric current in graphene in the presence of an external
magnetic field are described. It is shown that when the electrons are prepared
in the form of wave packets assuming a Gaussian population of only positive (or
negative) energy Landau levels, the presence of the magnetic field induce
revivals of the electron currents, besides the classical cyclotron motion. When
the population comprises both positive and negative energy Landau levels,
revivals of the electric current manifest simultaneously with zitterbewegung
and the classical cyclotron motion. We relate the temporal scales of these
three effects and discuss to what extent these results hold for real graphene
samples

Wave packet revivals in a graphene quantum dot in a perpendicular magnetic field
We study the time-evolution of localized wavepackets in graphene quantum dots
under a perpendicular magnetic field, focusing on the quasiclassical and
revival periodicities, for different values of the magnetic field intensities
in a theoretical framework. We have considered contributions of the two
inequivalent points in the Brillouin zone. The revival time has been found as
an observable that shows the break valley degeneracy.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, corrected typo, To appear in Phys. Rev.
Identifying wave packet fractional revivals by means of information entropy
Wave packet fractional revivals is a relevant feature in the long time scale
evolution of a wide range of physical systems, including atoms, molecules and
nonlinear systems. We show that the sum of information entropies in both
position and momentum conjugate spaces is an indicator of fractional revivals
by analyzing three different model systems: the infinite square well,
a particle bouncing vertically against a wall in a gravitational field,
and the vibrational dynamics of hydrogen iodide molecules. This
description in terms of information entropies complements the usual one in
terms of the autocorrelation function
Cdo patterns the musculature of the esophagus and is required for esophageal motility in mice
Introduction:
Cdo is a multifunctional cell surface co-receptor that promotes Hedgehog signaling during rostroventral midline development and cadherin-mediated signaling during skeletal myogenesis. We report here novel roles for Cdo in patterning of the murine esophageal musculature and esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia
Osteoarthritis and the Mediterranean Diet: A Systematic Review
Osteoarthritis (OA) affects 240 million people globally. Few studies have examined the links between osteoarthritis and the Mediterranean diet (MD). The aim of this paper was to systematically review and analyze the epidemiological evidence in humans on the MD and its association with OA. A systematic search of EMBASE identified three studies that explored the association between MD and OA. Two of them were cross-sectional and the third one was a 16-week randomized clinical trial. Prisma declaration was followed to carry out this review. These studies described a positive association between a higher adherence to a MD and the quality of life of participants suffering OA. The prevalence of OA was lower in participants with a higher adherence to a Mediterranean diet. Biomarkers of inflammation and cartilage degradation related to OA were also analyzed and significant differences were detected only for IL1-, which decreased in the MD group. Exploring the relationship between MD and OA is complex, moreover, the limited evidence and methodological differences in such studies makes it difficult to compare results. In conclusion, the three studies included in this systematic review demonstrated some relation between osteoarthritis and a Mediterranean diet. However, prospective and longer interventions are required to evaluate the long-term efficacy of the Mediterranean diet to improve symptomatology and preventing osteoarthritis
adquireix coneixements i habilitats.
Uncovering tau in wasteosomes (corpora amylacea) of Alzheimer's disease patients
Brain corpora amylacea, recently renamed as wasteosomes, are polyglucosan bodies that appear during aging and some neurodegenerative conditions. They collect waste substances and are part of a brain cleaning mechanism. For decades, studies on their composition have produced inconsistent results and the presence of tau protein in them has been controversial. In this work, we reanalyzed the presence of this protein in wasteosomes and we pointed out a methodological problem when immunolabeling. It is well known that to detect tau it is necessary to perform an antigen retrieval. However, in the case of wasteosomes, an excessive antigen retrieval with boiling dissolves their polyglucosan structure, releases the entrapped proteins and, thus, prevents their detection. After performing an adequate pre-treatment, with an intermediate time of boiling, we observed that some brain wasteosomes from patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) contained tau, while we did not detect tau protein in those from non-AD patients. These observations pointed the different composition of wasteosomes depending on the neuropathological condition and reinforce the role of wasteosomes as waste containers
