The purposes of this work were to elaborate a teaching sequence on the theme “electric currents” and employ concept maps (CMs) to assess the variation in cognitive complexity of four students from a secondary public school, who participated in the Pre-Undergraduate Research Program (PIC – Pré-Iniciação Científica) of the University of São Paulo Research Pro-Rectory. For the period of five months, these students took part in activities conducted at the college facilities, such as bibliographical research, elaboration of seminars on the theme and they also attended fifteen theoretical lectures and five experimental classes on electricity. Analysis of the results revealed that, following the teaching sequence, the students were able to formulate meaningful propositions based on the concepts approached in class and through the maps; it was possible to verify a significant improvement in the students’ knowledge of the theme “electric current”
Catalog of Isolated Galaxies Selected from the 2MASS Survey
We search for isolated galaxies based on the automatic identification of
isolated sources from the Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) followed by a
visual inspection of their surroundings. We use the modified Karachentseva
criterion to compile a catalog of 3227 isolated galaxies (2MIG), which contains
6% of 2MASS Extended Sources Catalog (or 2MASX) sources brighter than Ks = 12
mag with angular diameters a_K > 30 arcsec. The catalog covers the entire sky
and has an effective depth of z = 0.02. The 2493 very isolated objects of the
catalog, which we include into the 2MVIG catalog, can be used as a reference
sample to investigate the effects of the environment on the structure and
evolution of galaxies located in regions with extremely low density of matter.Comment: 19 pages, 13 figure
Orchestration of Network Services Across Multiple Operators: The 5G Exchange Prototype
Future 5G networks will rely on the coordinated
allocation of compute, storage, and networking resources in
order to meet the functional requirements of 5G services as well
as guaranteeing efficient usage of the network infrastructure.
However, the 5G service provisioning paradigm will also require
a unified infrastructure service market that integrates multiple
operators and technologies. The 5G Exchange (5GEx) project,
building heavily on the Software-Defined Network (SDN) and the
Network Function Virtualization (NFV) functionalities, tries to
overcome this market and technology fragmentation by
designing, implementing, and testing a multi-domain
orchestrator (MdO) prototype for fast and automated Network
Service (NS) provisioning over multiple-technologies and
spanning across multiple operators. This paper presents a first
implementation of the 5GEx MdO prototype obtained by
extending existing open source software tools at the disposal of
the 5GEx partners. The main functions of the 5GEx MdO
prototype are showcased by demonstrating how it is possible to
create and deploy NSs in the context of a Slice as a Service
(SlaaS) use-case, based on a multi-operator scenario. The 5GEx
MdO prototype performance is experimentally evaluated
running validation tests within the 5GEx sandbox. The overall
time required for the NS deployment has been evaluated
considering NSs deployed across two operators
Chemical weed control in areas of no-till cassava
The aim of this work was to evaluate the selectivity of some pre and postemergence herbicides on cassava, as well as their efficiency to control the weeds Avena sativa, Bidens pilosa, Commelina benghalensis, Raphanus sativus and Sida rhombifolia. The field trial was carried out in no-till areas, in Araruna, northwestern Paraná State. Although some herbicides provided outstanding results either in relation to weed control or crop selectivity, when both aspects were taken into consideration, the best results were achieved with arnetryne-i-clornazone (1.50+ 1.00 kg/ha) and ametryne--diuron (0.62+0.96 kg/ha), both applied postemergence of weeds, when 5 to 10% of cassava sprouts had already emerged from the soil
