MObile Technology for Improved Family Planning: update to randomised controlled trial protocol.

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: This update outlines changes to the MObile Technology for Improved Family Planning study statistical analysis plan and plans for long-term follow-up. These changes result from obtaining additional funding and the decision to restrict the primary analysis to participants with available follow-up data. The changes were agreed prior to finalising the statistical analysis plan and sealing the dataset. METHODS/DESIGN: The primary analysis will now be restricted to subjects with data on the primary outcome at 4-month follow-up. The extreme-case scenario, where all those lost to follow-up are counted as non-adherent, will be used in a sensitivity analysis. In addition to the secondary outcomes outlined in the protocol, we will assess the effect of the intervention on long-acting contraception (implant, intra-uterine device and permanent methods). To assess the long-term effect of the intervention, we plan to conduct additional 12-month follow-up by telephone self-report for all the primary and secondary outcomes used at 4 months. All participants provided informed consent for this additional follow-up when recruited to the trial. Outcome measures and analysis at 12 months will be similar to those at the 4-month follow-up. The primary outcomes of the trial will be the use of an effective modern contraceptive method at 4 months and at 12 months post-abortion. Secondary outcomes will include long-acting contraception use, self-reported pregnancy, repeat abortion and contraception use over the 12-month post-abortion period. DISCUSSION: Restricting the primary analysis to those with follow-up data is the standard approach for trial analysis and will facilitate comparison with other trials of interventions designed to increase contraception uptake or use. Undertaking 12-month trial follow-up will allow us to evaluate the long-term effect of the intervention. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01823861

Intensity-Dependent Enhancement of Saturable Absorption in PbS-Au4 Nanohybrid Composites: Evidence for Resonant Energy Transfer by Auger Recombination

Intensity-dependent enhancement of saturable absorption in a film of PbS-Au4 nanohybrid composites has been observed by femtosecond time-resolved transient absorption measurement at 780 nm. The nonlinear absorption coefficient of saturable absorption in PbS-Au4 nanohybrid composites is found to be dependent on excitation irradiance and it is determined to be -2.9 cm/GW at 78 GW/cm2, an enhancement of nearly fourfold in comparison with that of pure PbS quantum dots (QDs). The enhancement is attributed to excitation of surface plasmon by resonant energy transfer between PbS QDs and Au nanoparticles through Auger recombination.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures. The Effect of Cooperative Learning Approach, Competitive and Physical Fitness on Basketball Dribble Skills

The condition of learning basketball games in physical education in junior high schools (SMP) is still not optimally carried out in the implementation of the teaching and learning process, especially in the context of developing learning outcomes of basketball skills. The method used in this research is an experimental method with Anava 2 x 2 design. The population in this study were seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sawan as many as 78 students. The sampling technique uses the Verducci technique, to be as many as 78 people according to what is needed in the study. The instrument chosen by the author is the physical fitness test from AAHPERD for the junior high level and for basketball dribbling skills with a validity level of 0.89, namely the dribble test from Horrison. The author's hypothesis in this study is (1) The learning outcomes of students' basketball skills taught through the Cooperative learning approach are better than the Competitive learning approach as a whole. (2) There is an interaction between learning approaches and physical fitness on learning outcomes of basketball skills. (3) The learning outcomes of basketball skills of student groups taught through the Competitive learning approach are better than those of student groups taught through the Cooperative learning approach in groups of students who have high fitness. (4) The learning outcomes of basketball skills of student groups taught through the Cooperative learning approach are better than those of student groups taught through the Competitive learning approach in groups of students who have low fitness

    Microlensing of Extended Stellar Sources

We investigate the feasibility of reconstructing the radial intensity profile of extended stellar sources by inverting their microlensed light curves. Using a simple, linear, limb darkening law as an illustration, we show that the intensity profile can be accurately determined, at least over the outer part of the stellar disc, with realistic light curve sampling and photometric errors. The principal requirement is that the impact parameter of the lens be less than or equal to the stellar radius. Thus, the analysis of microlensing events provides a powerful method for testing stellar atmosphere models.Comment: 4 pages LaTeX, to appear in New Astronomy Reviews - proceedings of the Oxford Workshop `Gravitational Lensing: Nature's Own Weighing Scales'. Compressed sensing with near-field THz radiation

We demonstrate a form of near-field terahertz (THz) imaging that is compatible with compressed sensing algorithms. By spatially photomodulating THz pulses using a set of shaped binary optical patterns and employing a 6-μm-thick silicon wafer, we are able to reconstruct THz images of an object placed on the exit interface of the wafer. A single-element detector is used to measure the electric field amplitude of transmitted THz radiation for each projected pattern, with the ultra-thin wafer allowing us to access the THz evanescent near fields to achieve a spatial resolution of ∼9  μm∼9  μm
