The degree of internationalization of the Vietnamese economy has been steadily increasing since the start of the Open policy in 1986. In this context, Vietnamese born global firms has been increasingly active in the international market. Understanding and following the internationalization process has become essential for these firms. Theoretically, the firm starts the internationalization process by analyzing the motivation, barriers, enabling factors for internationalization such as previous knowledge, social and business network, resource and capability, and international entrepreneurship. Based on the advantages and disadvantages analyzed, the firm continues the steps of opportunity identification, exploitation, and development. Lastly, the choice of target market and the entry mode to penetrate the chosen market are the last steps of the process. In the empirical part of the study, the qualitative and multiple – cased research method was conducted to examine and investigate the internationalization process of two Vietnamese born global firms in food manufacturing industry. Finding from the empirical part shows that the rapid internationalization of the firm is driven by the characteristic and the network of the founders. The global mindset of the founders is considered as the initiative of the internalization process of the firms. Besides, social and business network of the founders is the main factor enabling the firm to recognize and choose the potential market entry.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format

This paper aims at identifying the elements of and impacting factors on succession planning at the academic and public libraries in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The research underpinned by transformational leadership theory used data from online survey of 172 participants from all thirteen public libraries and four selected academic libraries in the region. Twenty-three in-depth interviews of library leaders and managers of those libraries are conducted to get further information about emerging themes from the survey. Required elements of succession planning are indicated as an adequate talent pool, staff involvement, job descriptions, work performance assessments, and selection criteria. In the context of a country with only one leading Party such as Vietnam, the key impacting role is the Communist Party Committee. Other impacting factor on determining quality of successors is training programs. Impacting factors on leading and conducting succession planning are library leaders, general staff, and parent organization leaders. Furthermore, research also finds out some interesting correlations among variables of succession planning that contribute to the knowledge of library succession. This research provides potential successors with an awareness of challenges they may encounter to be promoted. This study also specifies evidence that candidates cannot automatically proceed to managerial positions without continuing efforts and self-improvement. Furthermore, the finding of the research contributes an assistance for library leaders in the process of selecting qualified staff for future managerial positions. Library leaders should consider these impacting factors because they affect the quality of successors and succession planning process. In addition, library leaders should pay attention to the correlations among age, qualification, position, and years of experience of employees with awareness of the existence of succession planning, the important role of succession planning, potential candidates, and promotion. These correlations should be considered because they also affect the quality of successors. The finding that general staff involvement helps to prevent library leaders from bias and demonstrate democracy and openness in succession planning is a new contribution to the literature. In addition, correlations among variables of succession planning are interesting and significant findings of the research. These correlations contribute to an understanding of factors in succession planning which has not been discussed in the literature so far

Online Load Balancing for Network Functions Virtualization

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) aims to support service providers to deploy various services in a more agile and cost-effective way. However, the softwarization and cloudification of network functions can result in severe congestion and low network performance. In this paper, we propose a solution to address this issue. We analyze and solve the online load balancing problem using multipath routing in NFV to optimize network performance in response to the dynamic changes of user demands. In particular, we first formulate the optimization problem of load balancing as a mixed integer linear program for achieving the optimal solution. We then develop the ORBIT algorithm that solves the online load balancing problem. The performance guarantee of ORBIT is analytically proved in comparison with the optimal offline solution. The experiment results on real-world datasets show that ORBIT performs very well for distributing traffic of each service demand across multipaths without knowledge of future demands, especially under high-load conditions

This study applied the contingent valuation method to analyze the consumers’ demand for the proposed safe pork. The data was collected by face-to-face interviewing 884 urban households in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. The results revealed that the majority of consumers (about 64%) paid attention to the proposed safe pork. Their willingness to pay was about VND 176,000 ($ 7.65) per kg, nearly double compared to the market price of conventional pork. The results showed that the respondents who had higher household income, larger proportion of elderly and children in the family, paid higher price of a conventional pork, and get more knowledge score on the safe pork are more likely, while the respondents who have more number of family members are less likely to pay for the proposed safe pork

Background: Hepatitis B virus infection continues to be a public health problem in developing countries. This study aimed to assess the percentage of hepatitis B virus infection and related factors among adult population in Tra Vinh Province, Vietnam 2022. Methods: The study applied the cross-sectional descriptive design with the combination of structured interview and serological blood tests, from September 1, 2021, to June 1, 2022. Results: There were 1,289 respondents in the study. Overall, the percentage of sample positive reaction with HBsAg were 7.68% (99 peoples). Most of the people did not likely have relatives with a family history of hepatitis B virus infection, the proportion of people who had household family members who had hepatitis B, hepatocellular carcinoma, and cirrhosis was 1.24%, 0.93%, and 2.48% respectively. People who did not preventive vaccination for hepatitis B virus had higher rates of HBsAg (+) than people get preventive vaccination, with p=0.005. However, in other medical practice, the rate of HBsAg was non-significance, such as blood transfusion, surgery, dental treatment, injecting medications, and injected skin boils. The percentage of hepatitis B virus infection in the study was not significantly associated with hepatitis B prevention practices in daily life, including acupuncture, sharing shavers, sharing toothbrushes, sharing nail tools, and spraying tattoo. Conclusions: The percentage of hepatitis B virus infection in Tra Vinh province was 7.68%. There was a statistically significant relationship between the incidence of hepatitis B with preventive vaccination for the hepatitis B virus

Speaking skills is one of the four major language skills that most language learners desire to master in order to communicate effectively in different contexts. It is important to determine main factors hindering learners to speak English fluently. In order to achieve the aim of discovering and analyzing the problems in learning speaking skills faced by English major students at Ba Ria-Vung Tau University (BVU), 65 students participated in this study by completing the questionnaire made by the researcher. The result reveals that the dominant problems these students often encounter are associated with linguistic problems and non-linguistic problems. Although students have striven to deal with their learning speaking problems, but their attempts seem to be unsuccessful. Therefore, some recommendations in the light of findings are also presented in this paper

Bank loan loss in Vietnam : a dialectical view

    Get PDF
Loan loss recognition and communication have been contentious issues in Vietnam recently. Before 2012, the State Bank of Vietnam and commercial banks continuously signaled that the banking system was under control, with the nonperforming loans (NPLs) ratio below 3%. However, a belief expressed through newspapers and other media was that the NPL ratio was much higher under international standards. This ratio became controversial when different figures were disclosed from different sources, and it has fluctuated strongly since 2012. The acceleration of NPLs in 2012 froze credit flows and the economy. Later, the NPL ratio steadily decreased until it reached the benchmark of 3%, which was announced as the safety level, and it has remained thus since 2014. However, many believe that the published figure of 3% represented just a part of the NPL iceberg. Most recently, the National Financial Supervisory Commission announced that the NPL was 9.5% at the end of 2017, while according to the banking industry’s report it was below 3%. Accompanying the different NPL numbers is the continuous change from 2012 to date in accounting regulation on debt classification and provisioning. That constant change represents the embarrassment of bank regulators in regulating loan loss recognition. It raises the research question why loan loss recognition and communication are contentious issues in the Vietnamese context. Answering this question is expected to equip Vietnam’s bank regulators with a theoretical basis for their decision-making in regulating loan loss recognition, and improve transparency in loan loss recognition as well. Seemingly, loan loss recognition used to be controversial in many other countries, such as Japan, the United States and China before, during and after their financial crisis. It led to the issuance of bank regulations such as Basel Accords I and II as well as new accounting standards - IAS 39 Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement, IFRS 7 Financial Instruments: Disclosures and IFRS 9 Financial Instruments - to resolve that controversy. Nevertheless, the phenomenon is repeated in Vietnam. It leads to the following subresearch questions: ‘Is Vietnam experiencing the same issue that occurred in other countries?’ and ‘Has Vietnam learned from history given that the country has been equipped with those new rules?
