    Ethnomedicinal Survey for Important Plants of Jalalpur Jattan, District Gujrat, Punjab, Pakistan

    An ethnomedicinal survey was carried out in Jalalpur Jattan District Gujrat, Punjab-Pakistan for documentation of important flora and information from local community about their medicinal uses. The indigenous knowledge of local traditional uses was collected through questionnaire and personal interviews during field trips. Plants with their correct nomenclature were arranged by family name, vernacular name, part use, ethnomedicinal remedies and ethnomedicinal uses. The identification and nomenclature of the listed plants were based on The Flora of Pakistan. A total of 88 plants species were identified by taxonomic description and locally by ethnomedicinal knowledge of people existing in the region. Plant specimens collected, identified, preserved and mounted were deposited in the department of botany, University of Gujrat, Pakistan for future references

    Recent approaches and applications of non-intrusive load monitoring

    The Appliance Load Monitoring is vital in every energy consuming system be it commercial, residential or industrial in nature. Traditional load monitoring system, which used to be intrusive in nature require the installation of sensors to every load of interest which makes the system to be costly, time consuming and complex. Nonintrusive load monitoring (NILM) system uses the aggregated measurement at the utility service entry to identify and disaggregate the appliances connected in the building, which means only one set of sensors is required and it does not require entrance into the consumer premises. We presented a study in this paper providing a comprehensive review of the state of art of NILM, the different methods applied by researchers so far, before concluding with the future research direction, which include automatic home energy saving using NILM. The study also found that more efforts are needed from the researchers to apply NILM in appliance energy management, for example a Home Energy Management System (HEMS)

    Design of an integrated sub-6 ghz and mmwave mimo antenna for 5g handheld devices

    The reported work demonstrates the design and realization of an integrated mid-band (sub-6 GHz) and mmWave multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) antenna for 5G handheld devices. The proposed prototype consists of the two-port MIMO configuration of the mid-band antenna placed at the top and bottom of the substrate, while the 4-port mmWave MIMO antenna is placed sideways. The MIMO configuration at the top and bottom consists of a two-element array to achieve high gain at the mid-band spectrum, while the antennas placed sideways are optimized to cover the 5G-mmWave band spectrum. The overall dimensions of the board were selected the same as the of smartphones, i.e., 151 mm x 72 mm. The mid-band antenna has an operational bandwidth of 2.73 GHz, whereas the mmWave antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 3.85 GHz with a peak gain of 5.29 and 8.57 dBi, respectively. Furthermore, the design is analyzed for the various MIMO performance parameters; it was found that the proposed antennas offer high performance in terms of envelop correlation coefficient (ECC), diversity gain (DG), mean effective gain (MEG) and channel capacity loss (CCL) within operational range. A fabricated prototype was tested and measured results show strong agreement with predicted results. Moreover, the proposed work is compared with state-of-the-art work for the same applications to demonstrate its potential for targeted application

    SPASMOLYTIC, BRONCHODILATOR AND VASORELAXANT ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF TEPHROSIA PURPUREA

    The methanolic extract of the whole plant of Tephrosia pupurea, Linn. was subjected to find out itspossible therapeutic utility to validate its folkloric use in native systems of medicine. The extract on applicationto spontaneous contractions in isolated rabbit jejunum preparations exerted a concentration dependent(0.003-3.0 mg/mL) relaxant effect. The extract also caused concentration dependent relaxation of K+ (80 mM)-induced spastic contractions. These findings were further supported by the observations that the extract causeda concentration dependent right ward shift of the Ca2+ response curves in manner similar to that of verapamil.The extract exhibited a relaxant effect on carbachol and high K+ (80 mM)-induced contractions of isolated rabbittracheal preparations in a manner similar to verapamil. The observed non-specific bronchodilator responseis possibly mediated through Ca2+ channel blockade. Moreover, the extract also exhibited a dose dependentrelaxant effect on phenylephrine (1 μM) and K+ (80 mM)-induced contractions in a manner similar to verapamil.On the basis of the above-mentioned findings, it can be concluded that the use of Tephrosia purpurea, in gastrointestinalspasm, asthma and hypertension is likely to be mediated through calcium channel blockage

    USING WATER INDICES (NDWI, MNDWI, NDMI, WRI AND AWEI) TO DETECT PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PARAMETERS BY APPLY REMOTE SENSING AND GIS TECHNIQUES

    This study was undertaken by analyzing data from satellite image (Landsat-8 OLI) and geographical information system (GIS) to find the relationship between water parameters and water indices of spectral images. The main purpose of this research was to develop a model for the physical and chemical parameters of Gharraf stream in Iraq. The water parameters used in this study included: acidity (PH), Total Dissolved Solids (T.D.S), Alkalinity(ALK), Electrical Conductivity (E.C), Calcium(Ca), Chloride (CL), Sodium (Na), Sulfate (SO4), Potassium (k), Total suspended solid (T.S.S), Total Hardness (TH).Where the samples were taken to seventeen stations with two seasons and at the same time took a satellite image on 4/FEB, 11 / MAY.GIS techniques were used in the beginning to project the coordinates of seventeen stations along the stream in Landsat-8 satellite image for extract data. Then, these data are treated in SPSS software for purpose finding correlation and regression equations. Positive strong correlations between the reflectance of the satellite image and the water parameters in 4/FEB and 11/ MAY with five stations, helped to build six regression models. These models could be used to predict these six water parameters (PH, E.c, CL, SO4, Na and K) at any point along the stream in Iraq from the satellite image directly

    Comparison of oral versus injectable vitamin-D for the treatment of nutritional vitamin-D deficiency rickets

    OBJECTIVE: To assess the safety and acceptability of a single dose of vitamin-D versus the efficacy of injectable Vitamin-D versus oral vitamin-D. STUDY DESIGN: Case control. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: It was carried out at the Department of Paediatrics, Kharadar General Hospital, Karachi, from August 2003 to April 2004. METHODOLOGY: Children of the age of 6 months to 3 years with clinical, biochemical and radiological evidence of vitamin- D deficiency rickets were included. The history, clinical examination, complete blood picture, serum calcium. Phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase and X-ray of wrist joint were done. The children were divided into two groups A and B. Group A was given oral vitamin-D and group B was given intramuscular injection of vitamin-D on the first day and then they were followed for two more visits at 30 and 90 days with clinical, biochemical and radiological examinations to assess the outcome. RESULTS: There were 50 confirmed cases of rickets in each group. The mean age was 10.9+5.1 months and 14.7+8.1 months in group A and B respectively. In these children, clinical features were weakness, difficulty in walking, frontal bossing, ribcage deformity and widening of wrist were seen. After one dose of vitamin-D (cholecalciferol), there was appreciable gain of weight and height and raised levels of alkaline phosphatase became normal during follow-up. Radiological florid rickets and non-florid rickets in both groups healed clinically during follow-up period. Oral and injectable forms of vitamin-D (cholecalciferol) were effective but injectable form was shown to be statistically significant. There were no undesirable side effects and both forms of treatment were well-tolerated
