    Academic performance appraisal conducted by several agencies to get regular reports about ongoing activities and support the management or decision-makers in subsequent decisions. Given this assessment, is expected to produce data that is more detailed and valid. So that will improve the quality of academic performance in these institutions. From the analysis in the design of Information System Performance Assessment of Academic Lecturers at trial in the High School of Information Management and Computers (STMIK) PPKIA Pradnya Paramita Malang, there is a shortage, especially in the assessment of academic performance so that the lecturer in determining the ability of academic faculty development policy experience obstacles. To facilitate the institution, faculty, and students, then STMIK PPKIA Pradnya Paramita Malang requires a performance assessment system that is more measurable academic lecturer, accurate and more up to date and the assessment of academic performance will be able to assist parties involved, especially the quality assurance and can also used as one part of the filing of the certification lecturers

    Matematika sebagai salah satu mata pelajaran dianggap penting untuk dipelajari, untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran tersebut, siswa diharapkan menguasai kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Namun, beberapa hasil penelitian oleh Ramadhan (2013) dan Nurhayati (2012) mengemukakan bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa masih tergolong rendah. Kemampuan ini diperlukan agar siswa dapat memberi keterangan, data, atau fakta yang berguna bagi segala aspek kehidupan; mendidik untuk menuju pencapaian diri; membujuk orang untuk berprilaku sesuai kehendak yang diharapkan komunikatornya. Pendekatan yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa adalah pendekatan Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis antara siswa yang diberikan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs) dan siswa yang diberikan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan ekspositori, serta mengetahui kualitas peningkatan yang dicapai. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP negeri di kota Bandung. Pokok bahasan yang dijadikan materi penelitian adalah materi Bangun Ruang Sisi Datar. Metode Penelitian yang dipilih adalah adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan teknik analisis data kuantitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah intrumen tes (pretest-posttest). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs) lebih tinggi daripada siswa dengan pembelajaran ekspositori. ;---Mathematics as one of the subjects considered important to learn, to achieve learn objectives, students are expected to master the mathematical communication skill. However, some research results by Ramadhan (2013) and Nurhayati (2012) shows that students’ mathematical communication skill is still low. This skill is necessary for students to provide information, data, or facts that are useful to all aspects of life; educating towards achieving self; persuade people to behave at the will of what the communicators expected. The approach is expected to improve the skill of students' mathematical communication is Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs). This study aims to determine differences in improvement of communication skill between student given mathematical learning by Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach and the students are given learning with expository approaches, as well as knowing the quality improvement achieved. This research was conducted at the eighth grade students at one junior high school in Bandung. The subject that is used as research material is polyhedral material. The selected research method is quasi-experimental with quantitative data analysis techniques. The instrument used is test instrument (pre-test-post-test). Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the improvement of mathematical communication skill that on the students who learn mathematic by Eliciting Model Activities (MEAs) approach is higher than students who learn mathematic with expository approaches

    Biology of Papaya Mealy Bug Paracoccus Marginatus (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) in Cassava (Manihot Utilissima Pohl)

    The biology of papaya mealy bug (Paracoccus marginatus) in the cassava (Manihot utilissima) had been studied at the Plant Protection Laboratory of the Agriculture Faculty of Syiah Kuala University. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biology of P. marginatus on the cassava leaves. The result showed that the insect development time on cassava leaves were: 8.0 ± 0.79 days for egg stage, 5.3 ± 0.67 days for first instar nymph, 5.5 ± 0.84 days for the second instar of female nymph, 5.3 ± 0.50 days for the second instar of male nymph, 5.4 ± 0.51 days for the third instar of female nymph, and 3.6 ± 0.52 days for the third instar of male nymph (pre pupa), respectively. The development time of IV instar of male nymp (pupa) was 56,6 ± 0,58 days. The development time of the adult stage for female and male progeny were 14 ± 1,24 days and 43,3 ± 0,58 days. The life cycle of female and male were 31,8 ± 3,83 days and 27,8 ± 1,87 days, and the average number of eggs in each ovisac was 413, respectively

    Robust Reed Solomon Coded MPSK Modulation

    In this paper, construction of partitioned Reed Solomon coded modulation (RSCM), which is robust for the additive white Gaussian noise channel and a Rayleigh fading channel, is investigated. By matching configuration of component codes with the channel characteristics, it is shown that this system is robust for the Gaussian and a Rayleigh fading channel. This approach is compared with non-partitioned RSCM, a Reed Solomon code combined with an MPSK signal set using Gray mapping; and block coded MPSK modulation using binary codes, Reed Muller codes. All codes use hard decision decoding algorithm. Simulation results for these schemes show that RSCM based on set partitioning performs better than those that are not based on set partitioning and Reed Muller Coded Modulation across a wide range of conditions. The novel idea here is that in the receiver, we use a rotated 2^(m+1)-PSK detector if the transmitter uses a 2^m-PSK modulator

    Study of Innate Immune Response Components in West Nile Virus Infected Cells

    Two cellular innate responses, the dsRNA protein kinase (PKR) pathway and the 2\u27-5\u27 oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS)/RNase L pathway, are activated by dsRNAs produced by viruses and reduce translation of host and viral mRNAs. PKR activation results in eIF2a phosphorylation. As a consequence of eIF2a phosphorylation, stress granules (SGs) are formed by the aggregation of stalled SG proteins with pre-initiation complexes and mRNA. West Nile virus (WNV) infections do not induce eIF2a phosphorylation despite upregulation of PKR mRNA and protein suggesting an active suppression of PKR activation. Assessment of the mechanism of suppression of PKR activation in WNV-infected cells indicated that WNV infections do not induce PKR phosphorylation so that active suppression is not required. In contrast to infections with natural strains of WNV, infections with the chimeric W956 infectious clone (IC) virus efficiently induce SGs in infected cells. After two serial passages, the IC virus generated a mutant (IC-P) that does not induce SGs efficiently but does induce the formation of NS3 granules that persist throughout the infection. This mutant was characterized. 2\u27-5\u27 oligoadenylate synthetases (OAS) are activated by viral dsRNA to produce 2-5A oligos that activate RNase L to digest viral and cellular RNAs. Resistance to flavivirus-induced disease in mice is conferred by the full-length 2\u27-5\u27 oligoadenylate synthetase 1b (Oas1b) protein. Oas1b is an inactive synthetase that is able to suppress the in vitro synthetase activity of the active synthetase Oas1a. The ability of Oas1b to inhibit Oas1a synthetase activity in vivo and to form a heteromeric complex with Oas1a was investigated. Oas1b suppressed 2-5A production in vivo. Oas1a and Oas1b overexpressed in mammalian cells co-immunoprecipitated indicating the formation of heteromeric complexes by these proteins. Unlike mice, humans encode a single OAS1 gene that generates alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms. Synthetase activity has previously been reported for only three of the isoforms. The in vitro synthetase activity of additional OAS1 isoforms was analyzed. All tested isoforms synthesized higher order 2-5A oligos. However, p44A only produced 2-5A dimers which inhibit RNase L

Subsektor perikanan dapat berperan dalam pemulihan dan pertumbuhan perekonomian bangsa ini karena potensi sumberdaya ikannya yang besar dalam jumlah maupun keragamannya. Tingkat pemanfaatan baru mencapai 63,49% dari potensi lestarinya sebesar 6,4 juta ton per tahun. Untuk mengelola sumberdaya ikan secara benar dibutuhkan informasi ilmiah menyangkut biologi ikan, dinamika sumberdaya ikan dan lingkungannya. Di sinilah peran iktiologi yang perlu diketahui oleh para stakeholders dan lainnya

    Potential Development of Liquid Smoke From Oil Palm Solid Waste as Biofungicides

    This research investigated the potential utilization of solid waste from palm oil industry for liquid smoke production in Aceh Province, Indonesia. The liquid smoke can be applied as bio fungicides in agricultural field. Preliminary experiment on the use of liquid smoke as fungicide at Colletotrichum capsisi fungus which causes anthracnose disease on red pepper was also conducted. The survey on the existing potential/availability of palm oil mill in Aceh shows that there are 30 palm oil mills in eight districts with a total of production capacity 1020 ton/hour. Assuming that 10% of palm oil kernel shells are pyrolized into liquid smoke, Aceh province could produce about 23,868 ton of liquid smoke per year. The preliminary test result towards Colletotrichum capsisi fungus shows that the liquid smoke can be used as fungicides
