    The characterization of mechanical behaviour on kenaf fibre / polypropylene composites

    Global demand for wood plastic composite (WPC) has increased due to the increase of population and latest applications primarily in Malaysia industry today such as decking, chair and ceiling. However, the current WPC is worth investigating since such materials can be explored by enhancing their strength and quality through the treatment method. The objective of this study is to identify the effect of alkaline treatment on kenaf fibre in WPC system, to investigate the highest strength of kenaf fibre loading on mechanical properties in WPC, and to evaluate the morphology characteristics from fracture specimens related to the mechanical testing via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Specimen was fabricated via injection moulding and hydraulic hot press using kenaf fibre (KF) as filler and polypropylene (PP) as the matrix. A tensile test was carried out to determine the tensile stress of the material. The result revealed treated specimen possesses high tensile stress at 5 wt.% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) compared to 10 wt.% and 20 wt.%. The optimum tensile stress was at 40 wt.% KF (5 wt.% NaOH, 5 wt.% MAPP) with the value 21.38 MPa. Flexural test was carried out on untreated and treated KF which is pure PP, 10 wt.% KF, and 20 wt.% KF by weight to PP. The result of flexural stress showed treated specimen lead better flexural at 20 wt.% PP/KF (5 wt.% NaOH) with 30.25 MPa. Meanwhile 40 wt.% KF (5 wt.% MAPP) give high fatigue life cycles at all stress level 90 %, 80 %, 70 %, 60 % and 50 % as the specimen structure less damage was induced during fatigue test. SEM is used to observe the morphological characteristics of PP/KF. The good interfacial bonding between KF and PP is 5 wt.% NaOH due of less impurities and lignin content. Overall 5 wt. % NaOH with 40 wt.% PP/KF (5 wt.% MAPP) showed the best result and it is worth to replace the current kenaf fibre polymer composites product

    Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah seberapa besar pengaruh kepemimpinan dan komunikasi guru terhadap motivasi belajar siswa. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XII jurusan Administrasi Perkantoran yang terdiri dari 77 siswa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang positif pada kepemimpinan guru dan komunikasi guru terhadap motivasi belajar siswa. Dalam upaya meningkatkan motivasi belajar siwa hendaknya kepemimpinan guru diterapkan pada siswa sehingga guru dapat membimbing dan mendorong siswa untuk lebih giat belajar, guru diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasinya agar pada saat penyampaian materi dapat diterima siwa dengan baik

    Thermoluminescence energy response of TLD-100 subjected to photon irradiation using Monte Carlo N-particle transport code version 5

    Useful TL properties of TLD-100 that is an excellent candidate for using in TL dosimetry of ionizing radiation are demonstrated. This study is focused on response of TLD-100 subjected to photon irradiation. The thermoluminescence (TL) response of TLD-100 subject to various photon energy, ranging from 20 keV to 6 MeV, was investigated as energy absorbed in the TL material using Monte Carlo N-Particle transport code version 5 (MCNP5). The input parameters included in this study are experimental geometry specification, source information, material information, and tallies. Tally F6 is used in this simulation. The results from MCNP5 simulation show good agreement with previous experimental data. However, the data obtained from the simulation are greater than the experimental data especially in lower energy ranges

    The use of critical thinking skills among university ESL students

    This research was undertaken to measure the critical thinking ability of university ESL students and to determine the relationship between critical thinking ability and the (1) English language ability; (2) fields of study (or major); and (3) academic performance. The Cornell Critical Thinking Test Level X (CCTTX) developed by Ennis and Millman (1985) was used to determine the students’ critical thinking level and a questionnaire was administered to obtain other relevant data i.e. students’ English language ability, fields of study and academic performance. The respondents involved in the study were two hundred and sixty-one public university students in Pahang. The students’ CCTTX were marked and scores were given. Association between students’ critical thinking ability and English language ability, fields of study and academic performance were analysed via one-way analysis of variance using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences Version X (SPSS-X). The findings revealed that the overall scores obtained by the students in CCTTX test were low. There was a significant difference in the critical thinking scores with the students’ language ability. However, there were no significant differences recorded between the students’ CCTTX scores and their fields of study and academic performance. The implications of the findings for the English Language Curriculum were elaborated and relevant recommendations were made
