Symmetrically approximately continuous functions, consistent density theorems, and Fubini type inequalities

Using the continuum hypothesis, Sierpinski constructed a non-measurable function f such that {h : f( x + h) not equal f(x - h)} is countable for every x: Clearly, such a function is symmetrically approximately continuous everywhere.Here we to show that Sierpinski's example cannot be constructed in ZFC. Moreover, we show it is consistent with ZFC that if a function is symmetrically approximately continuous almost everywhere, then it is measurable

Analysis of multivariable controller designs for diesel engine air system control

As diesel engine emissions standards become increasingly stringent, one of the most commonly employed method of emissions reduction by engine manufacturers is active control of inducted air and recirculated exhaust gas (EGR). Most often actuators such as an EGR valve and a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) are used to manipulate the air flow through a diesel engine to provide the reduced engine out emissions. This paper evaluates four different multivariable controller designs for control of a diesel engine air path: three built up from Single Input, Single Output (SISO) transfer functions and one that is a fully multivariable design. Various performance metrics are analyzed to gauge the relative difference in performance capability while maintaining a simple controller architecture. As part of the analysis, the controller designs are simulated with a realistic non-linear engine model against a modified standard certification test cycle to give a sense of how the controllers would perform in a real-world application

Effectiveness of Explicit Reading Model and the Relationship of Student Achievement

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of the Three Daily Doses compared to the Guided Reading model and determine what positively influences student’s assessment scores the most. The study uses test scores in FAST (Formative Assessment System for Teachers) data and individual reading assessments given every 14 days during the school calendar for the past three years and compare to the first year (2015-2016 school year) of the Three Daily Doses in an area Cedar Rapids School. The research was conducted for the purpose that it will drive further instruction in building classrooms and in school districts and solidify the decisions made in regards to molding future reading curriculum

On a conjecture regarding the upper graph box dimension of bounded subsets of the real line

Let X \subset R be a bounded set; we introduce a formula that calculates the upper graph box dimension of X (i.e.the supremum of the upper box dimension of the graph over all uniformly continuous functions defined on X). We demonstrate the strength of the formula by calculating the upper graph box dimension for some sets and by giving an "one line" proof, alternative to the one given in [1], of the fact that if X has finitely many isolated points then its upper graph box dimension is equal to the upper box dimension plus one. Furthermore we construct a collection of sets X with infinitely many isolated points, having upper box dimension a taking values from zero to one while their graph box dimension takes any value in [max{2a,1},a + 1], answering this way, negatively to a conjecture posed in [1]

Wertorientierte Unternehmensführung am Beispiel der DAX-30-Unternehmen – Qualitative und quantitative Auswertung auf Grundlage der externen Geschäftsberichterstattung

Eine wertorientierte Unternehmensführung hat in den letzten Jahren in den Unternehmen zunehmend an Bedeutung gewonnen. Wertorientierung stellt dabei ein Führungsverhalten dar, welches sich mit der Gestaltung und Realisierung von wertorientierten Zielen auf Managementebene beschäftigt. Heutzutage lebt Wertorientierung vom Einklang aus ökonomischen, ökologischen und gesellschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten. Die vorliegende Masterarbeit befasst sich mit der Geschäftsberichtsanalyse der DAX-30-Unternehmen hinsichtlich wertorientierter Steuerung. Dabei werden Unternehmen hinsichtlich ihres Bekenntnisses zur Wertorientierung, Veröffentlichung wertorientierter Kennzahlen und Höhe der Kapitalkostensätze untersucht.Hierbei kommt der Vergleichbarkeit und Transparenz eine entscheidende Rolle zu. Die Untersuchung ergibt ein hohes Bekenntnis zur Wertorientierung in nahezu allen betrachteten DAX-Unternehmen. Die Unternehmen führen viele Spitzenkennzahlen an, die vorwiegend auf dem Economic Value Added basieren. Zusätzlich werden eine Reihe weiterer, in der betrieblichen Praxis als wertorientierte Kennzahlen genutzte Messgrößen, herausgegeben. Eine Vergleichbarkeit untereinander gestaltet sich sehr schwierig, da Berechnung und Bezeichnung gleicher Kennzahlen sehr unterschiedlich sind. Daran wird sich ohne einheitlichen Standard in naher bis mittelfristiger Zukunft nichts ändern
