Introduction : Les Vosges : vieux terroirs, nouveaux espaces
Pablo Campos, Lynn Huntsinger, JosĂ© L. Oviedo, Paul F. Starrs, Mario DĂaz, Richard B. Standiford et Gregorio Montero (Ă©dit.), Mediterranean Oak Woodland Working Landscapes. Dehesas of Spain and Ranchlands of California
If Morocco receives tourists interested in the visit of its “imperial cities”and its souks, the country also has a deposit of an extraordinary wealth in the countryside of the Atlas mountains in the South. It not only offers the exotism of its natural mountain landscapes and desert but also all the objects or buildings of an old agrarian civilization adapted to the dryness and the relief. The non exhaustive inventory of the offered patrimonial resources allows to consider the possibilities of a considerable development for a sustainable cultural tourism that benefits to an ample underprivileged region by the desertion of great part of its active forces. A circuit of real cultural tourism is proposed like example and test of the feasibility of an activity that allows to mitigate the imbalances of the country.

It first favored the so-called imperial cities before expanding to the south-east, in the Oriental Anti-Atlas. The Western Anti-Atlas yet endowed with a certain wealth of heritage, in a rural and agrarian environment, has not known, until now, the same craze, despite the proximity of Agadir, major tourist center. The article tries to explain this delay in the tourism development of this part of the Atlas chains and also presents examples of heritage sites and objects likely to attract tourists. As this part of the Atlas has only recently interested a few Moroccan or foreign geographers, this article is based on these few researches and especially on the numerous and punctual observations made, by the author, during the last two or three decades, until 1999
The goal of this article is to take stock of the presence of French geographers in Spain since the 19th century. This work partially carried out at one time by other authors, supposed the inventory, on the one hand of partial works already undertaken, on the other hand, of researchers and institutions engaged in research particularly after the Second World War. This systematic search revealed the importance of works undertaken by the French, before and after the war. The high point of this presence, without any doubt, took place during the 70’s and 80’s with a decline which really began only in the last decade of the 20th century. This surge, encouraged and supported by the School of the Hispanic and Iberian Advanced Studies (Casa de Velázquez), decreased without any doubt and the French presence changed in nature with, at the same time, a less exclusive vocation in Spain and a greater diversity of themes, in accordance with the trend of the last decades.
The plain of the Souss is today the first moroccan area for the production of citrus fruits (more than 40%) and early products (more than 60%). It is in the middle of the plain that the pioneer core, founded on the pumping of the aquifers, really began after the Second World War. It progressed then towards the downstream of the depression with, especially, market gardening. The most recent stage gained upper Souss, in the east of Taroudant. The economic success of this truly mining agriculture has a regrettable counterpart with the disappearance of the traditional systems of irrigation, which used the higher part of the underground water reserves, today in the course of exhaustion. But beyond the threat of disappearance of an old civilization of water, it is the sustainability of the modern systems which is in question
Topical ascorbic acid on photoaged skin. Clinical, topographical and ultrastructural evaluation: double-blind study vs. placebo.
peer reviewedaudience: researcherVitamin C is known for its antioxidant potential and activity in the collagen biosynthetic pathway. Photoprotective properties of topically applied vitamin C have also been demonstrated, placing this molecule as a potential candidate for use in the prevention and treatment of skin ageing. A topically applied cream containing 5% vitamin C and its excipient were tested on healthy female volunteers presenting with photoaged skin on their low-neck and arms in view to evaluate efficacy and safety of such treatment. A double-blind, randomized trial was performed over a 6-month period, comparing the action of the vitamin C cream vs. excipient on photoaged skin. Clinical assessments included evaluation at the beginning and after 3 and 6 months of daily treatment. They were performed by the investigator and compared with the volunteer self assessment. Skin relief parameters were determined on silicone rubber replicas performed at the same time-points. Cutaneous biopsies were obtained at the end of the trial and investigated using immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. Clinical examination by a dermatologist as well as self-assessment by the volunteers disclosed a significant improvement, in terms of the 'global score', on the vitamin C-treated side compared with the control. A highly significant increase in the density of skin microrelief and a decrease of the deep furrows were demonstrated. Ultrastructural evidence of the elastic tissue repair was also obtained and well corroborated the favorable results of the clinical and skin surface examinations. Topical application of 5% vitamin C cream was an effective and well-tolerated treatment. It led to a clinically apparent improvement of the photodamaged skin and induced modifications of skin relief and ultrastructure, suggesting a positive influence of topical vitamin C on parameters characteristic for sun-induced skin ageing
