Excitation of knotted vortex lines in matter waves
We study the creation of knotted ultracold matter waves in Bose–Einstein condensates via coherent two-photon Raman transitions with a Λ level configuration. The Raman transition allows an indirect transfer of atoms from the internal state to the target state via an excited state , that would be otherwise dipole-forbidden. This setup enables us to imprint three-dimensional knotted vortex lines embedded in the probe field to the density in the target state. We elaborate on experimental feasibility as well as on subsequent dynamics of the matter wave
Hilbert transform: applications to atomic spectra
In many areas of physics, the Kramers-Kronig relations are used to extract information about the real part of the optical response of a medium from its imaginary counterpart. In this paper we discuss an alternative but mathematically equivalent approach based on the Hilbert transform. We apply the Hilbert transform to transmission spectra to find the group and refractive indices of a Cs vapor and thereby demonstrate how the Hilbert transform allows indirect measurement of the refractive index, group index, and group delay while avoiding the use of complicated experimental setups
Atomic Faraday filter with equivalent noise bandwidth less than 1  GHz
We demonstrate an atomic bandpass optical filter with an equivalent noise bandwidth less than 1 GHz using the D1 line in a cesium vapor. We use the ElecSus computer program to find optimal experimental parameters and find that, for important quantities, the cesium D1 line clearly outperforms other alkali metals on either D-lines. The filter simultaneously achieves a peak transmission of 77%, a passband of 310 MHz, and an equivalent noise bandwidth of 0.96 GHz, for a magnetic field of 45.3 G and a temperature of 68.0°C. Experimentally, the prediction from the model is verified. The experiment and theoretical predictions show excellent agreement

An adaptive inelastic magnetic mirror for Bose-Einstein condensates
We report the reflection and focussing of a Bose-Einstein condensate by a new
pulsed magnetic mirror. The mirror is adaptive, inelastic, and of extremely
high optical quality. The deviations from specularity are less than 0.5 mrad
rms, making this the best atomic mirror demonstrated to date. We have also used
the mirror to realize the analog of a beam-expander, producing an ultra-cold
collimated fountain of matter wavesComment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Measurement of omega meson parameters in pi^+pi^-pi^0 decay mode with CMD-2
About 11 200 e^+e^- -> omega -> pi^+pi^-pi^0 events selected in the center of
mass energy range from 760 to 810 MeV were used for the measurement of the
\omega meson parameters. The following results have been obtained: sigma
_{0}=(1457 \pm 23 \pm 19)nb, m_{\omega}=(782.71 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.04) MeV/c^{2},
\Gamma_{\omega}=(8.68 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.10) MeV,
\Gamma_{e^+e^-}\cdot Br (\omega -> pi^+pi^-pi^0)=
(0.528 \pm 0.012 \pm 0.007) \cdot 10^{-3} MeV.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Particle interactions with single or multiple 3D solar reconnecting current sheets
The acceleration of charged particles (electrons and protons) in flaring
solar active regions is analyzed by numerical experiments. The acceleration is
modelled as a stochastic process taking place by the interaction of the
particles with local magnetic reconnection sites via multiple steps. Two types
of local reconnecting topologies are studied: the Harris-type and the X-point.
A formula for the maximum kinetic energy gain in a Harris-type current sheet,
found in a previous work of ours, fits well the numerical data for a single
step of the process. A generalization is then given approximating the kinetic
energy gain through an X-point. In the case of the multiple step process, in
both topologies the particles' kinetic energy distribution is found to acquire
a practically invariant form after a small number of steps. This tendency is
interpreted theoretically. Other characteristics of the acceleration process
are given, such as the mean acceleration time and the pitch angle distributions
of the particles.Comment: 18 pages, 9 figures, Solar Physics, in pres
High-statistics measurement of the pion form factor in the rho-meson energy range with the CMD-2 detector
We present a measurement of the pion form factor based on e+e- annihilation
data from the CMD-2 detector in the energy range 0.6<sqrt(s)<1.0 GeV with a
systematic uncertainty of 0.8%. A data sample is five times larger than that
used in our previous measurement.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures. Added comparison with KLOE measurement, minor

Study of the Process in the C.M.Energy Range 1.05-1.38 GeV with CMD-2
The process has been studied with the CMD-2 detector
using about 950 events detected in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.05 to
1.38 GeV. The cross section exceeds the expectation based on the contributions
of the rho(770), omega(782) and phi(1020) mesons only.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, uses elsart.cls, submitted to Physics Letters
