Session A3: Cipriber Project: Actions for the Protection and Conservation of Iberian Cyprinids of Community Interest
Abstract:
In recent years many studies have pointed out a decline in the populations of some threatened fish species in Duero and Tagus basins as well as an increase in distribution of invasive species. Mostly, this is due to river habitat deterioration by existing pressures over the river courses.
In order to protect and provide the basis for the recovery of these populations, the Duero Basin Authority as coordinating partner, and with the collaboration of the Tagus Basin Authority, the Department of Development and Environment of the Junta de Castilla y León (the regional government) and Natural Heritage of Castilla y León Foundation has promoted a project that has been selected in the 2013 call for the LIFE program.
The target species are endemic native cyprinids of Community interest (Sarda, Alagon stone loach, Duero nase, etc...) located in SCIs in the western of the Salamanca province (Spain). This presentation sets out the targets and action lines of the project, among which demolition of obsolete dams and new fish pass passages on weirs in use are basic tools to achieve river habitat conditions that allow a better distribution and population status. Removing existing pressures in water courses and restoring habitat will allow to progress towards good environmental status. The river restoration appears, therefore, as essential instrument to achieve an improvement of biodiversity. Other important objectives are the development of a breeding protocol to offset the current regression status, improve the scientific and technical knowledge on these species and define a fish and water management program.
The project also has an important content of dissemination, communication and public participation as key elements to address some actions for longitudinal continuity recovery as dam removal, since some groups such as councilors, anglers, etc. are still reluctant to this kind of measures

Entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial intentions of sports science students: what are their determinant variables?
Entrepreneurship is a key factor in sports due to the globalization and increase in competitiveness in the actual labour market. Therefore, it is important to understand entrepreneurial behaviour and distinguish between the two possible types, intrapreneurship and entrepreneurship, because both should be promoted. However, while studies on the entrepreneurial intentions of university students are a consolidated area of study, little is still known about intrapreneurial intentions. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to discover the determinant variables of entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial intentions of sports science students. For that reason, a sample of 183 senior-level sports science students, 23.60% female and 76.40% male with ages ranging between 20 and 41 years old (M = 22.56; SD = 2.70) was analysed. The results showed that the determinant variables of these two types of entrepreneurial behaviour are totally different. In the case of entrepreneurial intentions, the attitude towards behaviour and the perceived behaviour control were the significant determinants, while in the case of intrapreneurial intentions, the entrepreneurial abilities, subjective norm and age were the main determinants. To summarise, the educational university policies used to enhance the entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial intentions of sports science students should be different. Finally, to address this issue, some practical implications were presented.
Spin-orbit coupling in curved graphene, fullerenes, nanotubes, and nanotube caps
A continuum model for the effective spin orbit interaction in graphene is
derived from a tight-binding model which includes the and bands.
We analyze the combined effects of the intra-atomic spin-orbit coupling,
curvature, and applied electric field, using perturbation theory. We recover
the effective spin-orbit Hamiltonian derived recently from group theoretical
arguments by Kane and Mele. We find, for flat graphene, that the intrinsic
spin-orbit coupling \Hi \propto \Delta^ 2 and the Rashba coupling due to a
perpendicular electric field , ,
where is the intra-atomic spin-orbit coupling constant for carbon.
Moreover we show that local curvature of the graphene sheet induces an extra
spin-orbit coupling term . For the values of
and curvature profile reported in actual samples of graphene, we find
that \Hi < \Delta_{\cal E} \lesssim \Delta_{\rm curv}. The effect of
spin-orbit coupling on derived materials of graphene, like fullerenes,
nanotubes, and nanotube caps, is also studied. For fullerenes, only \Hi is
important. Both for nanotubes and nanotube caps is in the
order of a few Kelvins. We reproduce the known appearance of a gap and
spin-splitting in the energy spectrum of nanotubes due to the spin-orbit
coupling. For nanotube caps, spin-orbit coupling causes spin-splitting of the
localized states at the cap, which could allow spin-dependent field-effect
emission.Comment: Final version. Published in Physical Review
