19th Century Tragedy, Victory, and Divine Providence as the Foundations of an Afrikaner National Identity
Apart from a sense of racial superiority, which was certainly not unique to white Cape colonists, what is clear is that at the turn of the nineteenth century, Afrikaners were a disparate group. Economically, geographically, educationally, and religiously they were by no means united. Hierarchies existed throughout all cross sections of society. There was little political consciousness and no sense of a nation. Yet by the end of the nineteenth century they had developed a distinct sense of nationalism, indeed of a volk [people; ethnicity] ordained by God. The objective of this thesis is to identify and analyze three key historical events, the emotional sentiments evoked by these nationalistic milestones, and the evolution of a unified Afrikaner identity that would ultimately be used to justify the abhorrent system of apartheid
A Model for Comparative Analysis of Business Community Expectations of Printing Companies and Printer Perceptions of Those Expectations
The problem of this study was to compare the Statesboro, Georgia business community\u27s expectations of printing companies to the expectations printers perceive the businesses have. All of the local printers, and a sample of the local Chamber of Commerce corporate members (non-printers) were given identical survey forms which measured their expectations and perceptions. The forms were hand-delivered, picked-up the next day and tabulated to put the data in graphical form. A comparison of the two groups revealed some agreement and some disagreement in expectations and perceptions. After completing the study, it was determined that the research method is valid and produces information that can be used by the printing industry. Implementation of similar studies in other industries should be a valid method for analysis of business expectations as compared with how those expectations are perceived by the industry
Electronic Health Records and Support For Primary Care Teamwork
This study examined primary care practices' experiences using electronic health records (EHRs) as they strive to function as teams in patientcentered medical homes (PCMHs). We identify how EHRs facilitate and pose challenges to teamwork and how practices overcame such challenges. We describe solutions and identify opportunities to improve care processes as well as EHR functionalities and policies, to support teamwork

Bootstrap Percolation, Connectivity, and Graph Distance
Bootstrap Percolation is a process defined on a graph which begins with an
initial set of infected vertices. In each subsequent round, an uninfected
vertex becomes infected if it is adjacent to at least previously infected
vertices. If an initially infected set of vertices, , begins a process in
which every vertex of the graph eventually becomes infected, then we say that
percolates. In this paper we investigate bootstrap percolation as it
relates to graph distance and connectivity. We find a sufficient condition for
the existence of cardinality 2 percolating sets in diameter 2 graphs when . We also investigate connections between connectivity and bootstrap
percolation and lower and upper bounds on the number of rounds to percolation
in terms of invariants related to graph distance.Comment: 18 pages, 11 figure

Tissue Expansion: Further Attempts to Improve Results in Breast Reconstruction
Tissue expansion, is a simple method of breast reconstruction. Method. A prospective study of 27 patients treated over a 43 month period is described. At the first stage the expander is inserted in the dual plane, and the medial pectoral nerve is divided. The tissue expander is over-expanded. Second stage: a de-epithelialized vertical triangle is used to aid anterior projection, an inframammary fold is created and a silicone gel prosthesis inserted. Z-plasties are added to the transverse scar. The contralateral breast can be treated or left alone. Complications were recorded and the results were assessed by 4 plastic surgeons using a visual analogue scale.
Results. 19 patients had expanders inserted at mastectomy (2 bilateral) and 8 underwent delayed reconstruction, with a mean age of 47 years (range 30–65 years). A single prosthesis was inserted in 15 patients (mean size 320 mL) and two prosthesis were stacked in 12 patients (mean volume of 400 mL). The mean delay from full expansion to the second stage was 10 weeks (range 3 weeks–11 months).
A contralateral augmentation was performed in 5 patients, pexy in 10, a reduction in 2 and in 8 patients no procedure was performed.
One patient required explantation. The mean visual analogue assessment was 7.
Conclusion. This technique should be considered enhance the cosmetic results in tissue expansion
