Research on the Trade Effects of China’s Direct Investment in ASEAN
Based on the data of China’s direct investment and trade in ASEAN countries from 2004 to 2018, this paper established a variable parameter model, variable intercept model and constant coefficient model with panel data, and investigated the heterogeneous impact of China’s direct investment in ASEAN countries on their import and export trade and the impact mechanism. It is found that China’s direct investment in ASEAN will be deposited in the trade between China and 10 ASEAN countries, creating effects for trade, and the size of the effect varies with the host country. On average, when other factors remain unchanged, every 1 percentage point increase in China’s direct investment flows to ASEAN countries will increase exports to ASEAN countries by 0.54%, imports will increase by 0.44%. Further studies have found that our country to Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand’s export create effect is greater than the imported create effect, on the whole, China’s investment in the five countries promoted the net exports, mainly on its investment in China, led to many mechanical equipment and other related products exports, and imports mainly import countries have their comparative advantages of products, variety is less
THE VALUE OF CHIEF DATA OFFICER PRESENCE ON FIRM PERFORMANCE
In the era of big data, there are more and more organizations trying to establish a new breed of executive, Chief Data Officer (CDO), to identify new business opportunity from data assets and optimize corporate revenue. However, the relationship between CDO presence and firm’s financial performance has not been rigorously studied and validated in literature. Based on upper echelon theory and strategic change perspectives, we examined the impact of pre-performance on the CDO appointment, as well as the CDO presence on post-performance. We collected a multi-industry dataset of 68 firms with a CDO position. The results show that the return on assets (ROA) is positively related to CDO appointment, while, market to book ratio (M/B) is negatively related to CDO appointment. In addition, we found that firms with CDO have superior financial performance than their peers who do not. This study provides an initial step towards understanding the empirical linkages between CDO presence and firm performance
Experimental Trapped-ion Quantum Simulation of the Kibble-Zurek dynamics in momentum space
The Kibble-Zurek mechanism is the paradigm to account for the nonadiabatic
dynamics of a system across a continuous phase transition. Its study in the
quantum regime is hindered by the requisite of ground state cooling. We report
the experimental quantum simulation of critical dynamics in the
transverse-field Ising model by a set of Landau-Zener crossings in
pseudo-momentum space, that can be probed with high accuracy using a single
trapped ion. We test the Kibble-Zurek mechanism in the quantum regime in the
momentum space and find the measured scaling of excitations is in accordance
with the theoretical prediction.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures Published in Scientific Reports,

Thermal analysis of lithium ion battery-equipped smartphone explosions
Thermal management of mobile electronics has been carried out because performance of the application processor has increased and power dissipation in miniaturized devices is proportional to its functionalities. There have been various studies on thermal analyses related to mobile electronics with the objectives of improving analysis methodologies and cooling strategies to guarantee device safety. Despite these efforts, failure to control thermal energy, especially in smartphones, has resulted in explosions, because thermal behaviors in the device under various operating conditions have not been sufficiently conducted. Therefore, several scenarios that caused the failure in thermal management of smartphone was analyzed to provide improved insight into thermal design deducing the parameters, that affect the thermal management of device. Overcurrent in battery due to malfunction of battery management system or immoderate addition of functionalities to the application processor are considered as reliable causes leading to the recent thermal runaways and explosions. From the analyses, it was also confirmed that the heat generation of the battery, which have not been considered importantly in previous literature, has significant effect on thermal management, and heat spreading could be suppressed according to arrangement of AP and battery. The heat pipe, which is utilized as a cooling device in mobile electronics, was also included in the thermal analyses. Although the heat pipes have been expected to improve the thermal management in mobile electronics, it showed limited heat transfer capacity due to its operating conditions and miniaturization. The demonstrated results of our analysis warn against vulnerabilities of smartphones in terms of safety in design
Collective Excitation in High-Energy Nuclear Collisions -- In Memory of Professor Lianshou Liu
We celebrate the legacies of our friend and mentor Professor Lianshou Liu who
was one of the pioneers for the phenomenology of multi-particle interactions
and initiated the physics of relativistic heavy-ion collisions in China. In
this article, we discuss some of the recent exciting experimental observations
on the collective phenomena including collectivity, chirality, criticality,
strangeness production, and thermal equilibrium in high-energy nuclear
collisions. Future directions, especially the physics at high baryon density,
will be discussed with a focus on the first-order phase boundary and
hyperon-nucleon interactions.Comment: 20 pages, 10 figure
Distribution of gamma-ray bursts on the t90-hardness ratio plane and their classification revisited
Using four mixed bivariate distributions (Normal distribution, Skew-Normal
distribution, Student distribution, Skew-Student distribution) and bootstrap
re-sampling analysis, we analyze the samples of CGRO/BATSE, Swift/BAT and
Fermi/GBM gamma-ray bursts in detail on the t90-hardness ratio plane. The
Bayesian information criterion is used to judge the goodness of fit for each
sample, comprehensively. It is found that all the three samples show a
symmetric (either normal or student) distribution. It is also found that the
existence of three classes of gamma-ray bursts is preferred by the three
samples, but the strength of this preference varies with the sample size: when
the sample size of the data set is larger, the preference of three classes
scheme becomes weaker. Therefore, the appearance of an intermediate class may
be caused by a small sample size and the possibility that there are only two
classes of gamma-ray bursts still cannot be expelled yet. A further bootstrap
re-sampling analysis also confirms this result.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure
