    Environmental regulation, innovation quality and firms’ competitivity-Quasi-natural experiment based on China’s carbon emissions trading pilot

    In the study of the “Porter Hypothesis”, scholars explored the impact of different forms of innovation on the firms’ competitivity, but did not distinguish between innovations on the difference in patent quality. In addition, relevant research only regards innovation as a mediator between environmental regulation and competitivity, and doesn’t take into account innovation induced by environmental regulation, can only promote competitivity under the constraints of environmental regulation. That is to say, environmental regulation not only induces innovation, but also moderates innovation to promote competitivity. In view of this, we use panel data of A-share listed firms in China from 2006 to 2016, and adopt propensity score matching and different in different (PSM-DID) model to empirically test the inductive effect and moderating effect. The results show that CETS cannot only improve the quantity and quality, but also significantly enhance the firms’ market value; innovation itself cannot enhance the firms’ market value, but the interaction with CETS can promote the firms’ market value. In addition, the CETS has a stronger inductive effect on innovation of state-owned shares firms, but the positive moderating effect on high-quality innovation and competitivity only exists in non-state-owned shares firms

    Territorial barriers in interagency government data sharing

    Interagency government data sharing (IDS) is an indispensable precondition for the development of citizen-centred smart government. Adopting a theory of territoriality, this paper reports on an on-going research investigation, which explores, identifies, and qualifies the barriers to the lack of IDS.Methods. The research adopts an inductive approach, which combines a critical literature review, and three case studies in Central China. 118 articles, and 45 government officials and data managers from three regional government agencies collected as interview data were included and analysed using a thematic approach. Interorganisational dynamism affects the formulation of individual agencies’ psychological ownership on data, which leads to territorial marking and defending behaviours against IDS. Territoriality theory offers a novel and useful perspective to interpret, understand and resolve IDS problems. Albeit this research is situated in China, the research findings offer valuable indications and insights that can be shared across international borders.Peer Reviewe

    Understanding interagency relationships in the sharing of government data: a meta-analysis

    This paper reports on a research study that aimed to understand and qualify the influences of interagency relationships on interagency government data sharing (IDS). Using a meta-analysis approach, 76 interviews previously collected from three city governments in China were analysed under the theoretical lens of a unified social network theory of inter-organisational relations (IOR).Results. The meta-analysis shows that interagency data sharing is influenced by the constitution and determinants of interagency relationships. A conceptualisation of the findings indicated that tensions between government agencies are the core cause of the lack of interagency data sharing. Therefore, effective management of interagency tensions should become a central strategy for enhancing interagency data sharing. This paper provides a novel perspective on the conceptualisation of interagency data sharing problems and a new approach to strengthen interagency data sharing in practice.Peer Reviewe

    Numerical study of stall inception in a transonic axial compressor rotor based on the throttle model

    The goal of the current paper is to investigate inner flow behavior on stall inception in a transonic compressor rotor. The stall inception process is numerically carried out by unsteady 3-D simulations based on the throttle model. The current study shows that stall starts from the tip of the blade, and stall cell extends to the axial, circumferential and radial directions. Through the comparison of flow transition characteristics at different flow rate conditions, the interface between the incoming flow and tip clearance flow shifts forward to the upstream as the mass flow decreases. Eventually, the shock detaches from the blade leading edge, and tip clearance flow spills into the adjacent blade passage, thus stall happens in the affected blade passages

    Design of a modular, high step-up ratio DC–DC converter for HVDC applications integrating offshore wind power

    High-power and high-voltage gain dc-dc converters are key to high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission for offshore wind power. This paper presents an isolated ultra-high step-up dc-dc converter in matrix transformer configuration. A flyback-forward converter is adopted as the power cell and the secondary side matrix connection is introduced to increase the power level and to improve fault tolerance. Because of the modular structure of the converter, the stress on the switching devices is decreased and so is the transformer size. The proposed topology can be operated in column interleaved modes, row interleaved modes, and hybrid working modes in order to deal with the varying energy from the wind farm. Furthermore, fault-tolerant operation is also realized in several fault scenarios. A 400-W dc-dc converter with four cells is developed and experimentally tested to validate the proposed technique, which can be applied to high-power high-voltage dc power transmission

    Flexible fault-tolerant topology for switched reluctance motor drives

    Switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives are one competitive technology for traction motor drives. This paper proposes a novel and flexible SRM fault-tolerant topology with fault diagnosis, fault tolerance, and advanced control functions. The converter is composed of a single-phase bridge and a relay network, based on the traditional asymmetrical half-bridge driving topology. When the SRM-driving system is subjected to fault conditions including open-circuit and short-circuit faults, the proposed converter starts its fault-diagnosis procedure to locate the fault. Based on the relay network, the faulty part can be bypassed by the single-phase bridge arm, while the single-phase bridge arm and the healthy part of the converter can form a fault-tolerant topology to sustain the driving operation. A fault-tolerant control strategy is developed to decrease the influence of the fault. Furthermore, the proposed fault-tolerant strategy can be applied to three-phase 12/8 SRM and four-phase 8/6 SRM. Simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink and experiments on a three-phase 12/8 SRM and a four-phase 8/6 SRM validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, which may have significant economic implications in traction drive systems

    Efficiency improvement of non-uniformly-aged PV arrays

    The utilization of solar energy by photovoltaic (PV) systems have received much research and development (R&D) attention across the globe. In the past decades, a large number of PV array have been installed. Since the installed PV arrays often operate in harsh environments, non-uniform aging can occur and impact adversely on the performance of PV systems, especially in the middle and late periods of their service life. Due to the high cost of replacing aged PV modules by new modules, it is appealing to improve energy efficiency of aged PV systems. For this purpose, this paper presents a PV module reconfiguration strategy to achieve the maximum power generation from non-uniformly aged PV arrays without significant investment. The proposed reconfiguration strategy is based on the cell-unit structure of PV modules, the operating voltage limit of gird-connected converter, and the resulted bucket-effect of the maximum short circuit current. The objectives are to analyze all the potential reorganization options of the PV modules, find the maximum power point and express it in a proposition. This proposition is further developed into a novel implementable algorithm to calculate the maximum power generation and the corresponding reconfiguration of the PV modules. The immediate benefits from this reconfiguration are the increased total power output and maximum power point voltage information for global maximum power point tracking (MPPT). A PV array simulation model is used to illustrate the proposed method under three different cases. Furthermore, an experimental rig is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The proposed method will open an effective approach for condition-based maintenance of emerging aging PV arrays
