Towards adaptive multi-robot systems: self-organization and self-adaptation

The reason for this is that system designers are not able to fully specify the system during specification and development and before it is being deployed. Natural swarm systems enjoy similar characteristics, yet, being self-adaptive and being able to self-organize, these systems show beneficial emergent behaviour. Similar concepts can be extremely helpful for artificial systems, especially when it comes to multi-robot scenarios, which require such solution in order to be applicable to highly uncertain real world application. In this article, we present a comprehensive overview over state-of-the-art solutions in emergent systems, self-organization, self-adaptation, and robotics. We discuss these approaches in the light of a framework for multi-robot systems and identify similarities, differences missing links and open gaps that have to be addressed in order to make this framework possible
Le rôle de l'héritage sémantique dans la traduction automatique
The aim of this paper is to present the role of the semantic inheritance in the one of the linguistic
models for machine translation – the object-oriented approach by Wiesław Banyś. In the first part, the
author outlines the general concepts of the theory and provides several examples of its application in
the disambiguation process. The second part is fully focused on the question of the hierarchy of object
classes and the semantic inheritance of attributes and operations. In fact, it is precisely thanks to the
hierarchy postulated in the theory that the linguistic description becomes effective and fully applicable
in computer systems
Floods types in a mountain catchment: The Ochotnica River, Poland
This paper presents the results of a study on floods in the Ochotnica River catchment during forty years of hydrological observations (1972–2011). The Ochotnica River is located in the Gorce Mountains, in the Polish Western Carpathians. The characteristics of floods in the Ochotnica River channel were analyzed using limnigraphic records of water levels at the Tylmanowa gauging station and of precipitation based on data from the Polish Institute of Meteorology and the Water Management Station at Ochotnica Górna. Flood types were determined. The predominant type of floods in the Ochotnica River are normal floods with a discharge of 3.80 to 11.94 m³/s in winter and 4.74 to 16.40 m³/s in summer. The dominant recent process is incision, at an average speed of 3.2 cm/year. Similar results have been observed in other mountain rivers in Europe
Verbe remettre et ses équivalents polonais. Désambiguïsation et analyse sémanticopréfixale pour les besoins de la traduction automatique
The present paper aims at presenting the results of the disambiguation procedure of the French
polysemic verb remettre. Each meaning of the analysed word is illustrated with examples, associated
with the Polish translation and properly formalized with the use of syntactic-semantic schemes (being
one of the formats of the computational lexicographic description proposed in the object-oriented
approach by Wiesław Banyś). Furthermore, in the second part of the article, the author examines the
prefixed equivalents of remettre and tries to establish some semantic relations between the French
and Polish prefixation process
Le "ne" expletif dans la traduction automatique
The aim of the present paper is to analyse the French ‘ne explétif’ for the purpose of its machine
translation into Polish. The method of the study is based on object-oriented approach by Wiesław
Banyś.
In the first part, the author attempts to give a brief overview of the theories on the expletive
negation. The second part is the analysis of the different uses of the ‘ne explétif’ and their Polish
translations. The author distinguishes two types of the French ‘ne explétif’ in Polish : ‘nie without the
value of negation’ and ‘pure expletive nie’. The results of the research are presented in ten syntacticsemantic
schemes, i.e. in one of the computationally implementable formats of description used in
the object-oriented approach
La grammaire à base sémantique : une conception « bâtie » et non pas « donnée ». Quelques remarques sur le changement de la comprehension de certaines notions fondamentales dans la théorie de Stanisław Karolak
The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the evolution of the semantic-based grammar of
Stanisław Karolak. The main attention is focused on the three fundamental concepts of the theory:
predicate-argument structures, elementary sentences and thematic-rhematic structures. The author
also attempts to prove that, despite multiple modifications, the general idea of the theory has never
radically changed
Noms de perception olfactive dans l’approche orientée objets – description lexicographique franco-polonaise pour les besoins de la traduction automatique
The article presents an analysis of selected olfactory perception nouns in French
for the purpose of machine translation. The initial hypothesis, according to which nouns
such as odeur, parfum, arôme, puanteur, senteur create a coherent set, i.e. an object
class characterized by a certain group of operations (verbs), is subjected to
corpus verification. The research, based on the French corpus frTenTen12, confirms
this hypothesis and allows to distinguish 100 verbal operators common to all the elements
of the studied class. In the further part of the article, examples of descriptions
of the collected language material are presented in IT-implementable formats, which can
be used in machine translation software. The first table shows the syntactic combinatorics
of the class in French and Polish and the second one takes the form of bilingual
lexicographical “flashcard”, in which the operators characterizing the studied class are
divided into three groups: constructors, manipulators and accessors, according to the
object-oriented approach advocated by Wiesław Banyś
W części drugiej opisane są ukierunkowane semantycznie teorie leksykografii komputacyjnej, mogące znaleźć zastosowanie w opisie aspektu: model Sens-Tekst I. Mielczuka, teoria klas obiektowych G. Grossa i ujęcie zorientowane obiektowo W. Banysia.
Poprzez przyjętą metodę analizy niniejsza rozprawa w pełni wpisuje się w nurt badań lingwistycznych prowadzonych w Zakładzie Językoznawstwa Stosowanego i Translatoryki Uniwersytetu Śląskiego
