Magnetic and quantum entanglement properties of the distorted diamond chain model for azurite
We present the results of magnetic properties and entanglement of the
distorted diamond chain model for azurite using pure quantum exchange
interactions. The magnetic properties and concurrence as a measure of pairwise
thermal entanglement have been studied by means of variational mean-field like
treatment based on Gibbs-Bogoliubov inequality. Such a system can be considered
as an approximation of the natural material azurite, Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2. For values
of exchange parameters, which are taken from experimental results, we study the
thermodynamic properties, such as azurite specific heat and magnetic
susceptibility. We also have studied the thermal entanglement properties and
magnetization plateau of the distorted diamond chain model for azurite
Spitzer 24 um Excesses for Bright Galactic Stars in Bootes and First Look Survey Fields
Optically bright Galactic stars (V 1 mJy are
identified in Spitzer mid-infrared surveys within 8.2 square degrees for the
Bootes field of the NOAO Deep Wide-Field Survey and within 5.5 square degrees
for the First Look Survey (FLS). 128 stars are identified in Bootes and 140 in
the FLS, and their photometry is given. (K-[24]) colors are determined using K
magnitudes from the 2MASS survey for all stars in order to search for excess 24
um luminosity compared to that arising from the stellar photosphere. Of the
combined sample of 268 stars, 141 are of spectral types F, G, or K, and 17 of
these 141 stars have 24 um excesses with (K-[24]) > 0.2 mag. Using limits on
absolute magnitude derived from proper motions, at least 8 of the FGK stars
with excesses are main sequence stars, and estimates derived from the
distribution of apparent magnitudes indicate that all 17 are main sequence
stars. These estimates lead to the conclusion that between 9% and 17% of the
main sequence FGK field stars in these samples have 24 um infrared excesses.
This result is statistically similar to the fraction of stars with debris disks
found among previous Spitzer targeted observations of much brighter, main
sequence field stars.Comment: Accepted for publication in The Astronomical Journa
Forward pi^0 Production and Associated Transverse Energy Flow in Deep-Inelastic Scattering at HERA
Deep-inelastic positron-proton interactions at low values of Bjorken-x down
to x \approx 4.10^-5 which give rise to high transverse momentum pi^0 mesons
are studied with the H1 experiment at HERA. The inclusive cross section for
pi^0 mesons produced at small angles with respect to the proton remnant (the
forward region) is presented as a function of the transverse momentum and
energy of the pi^0 and of the four-momentum transfer Q^2 and Bjorken-x.
Measurements are also presented of the transverse energy flow in events
containing a forward pi^0 meson. Hadronic final state calculations based on QCD
models implementing different parton evolution schemes are confronted with the
data.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures and 3 table
Search for Doubly-Charged Higgs Boson Production at HERA
A search for the single production of doubly-charged Higgs bosons H^{\pm \pm}
in ep collisions is presented. The signal is searched for via the Higgs decays
into a high mass pair of same charge leptons, one of them being an electron.
The analysis uses up to 118 pb^{-1} of ep data collected by the H1 experiment
at HERA. No evidence for doubly-charged Higgs production is observed and mass
dependent upper limits are derived on the Yukawa couplings h_{el} of the Higgs
boson to an electron-lepton pair. Assuming that the doubly-charged Higgs only
decays into an electron and a muon via a coupling of electromagnetic strength
h_{e \mu} = \sqrt{4 \pi \alpha_{em}} = 0.3, a lower limit of 141 GeV on the
H^{\pm\pm} mass is obtained at the 95% confidence level. For a doubly-charged
Higgs decaying only into an electron and a tau and a coupling h_{e\tau} = 0.3,
masses below 112 GeV are ruled out.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl
Cortical auditory-evoked responses in preterm neonates: Revisited by spectral and temporal analyses
© The Author 2017. Published by Oxford University Press. Characteristic preterm EEG patterns of "Delta-brushes" (DBs) have been reported in the temporal cortex following auditory stimuli, but their spatio-temporal dynamics remains elusive. Using 32-electrode EEG recordings and co-registration of electrodes' position to 3D-MRI of age-matched neonates, we explored the cortical auditory-evoked responses (AERs) after 'click' stimuli in 30 healthy neonates aged 30-38 post-menstrual weeks (PMW). (1) We visually identified auditory-evoked DBs within AERs in all the babies between 30 and 33 PMW and a decreasing response rate afterwards. (2) The AERs showed an increase in EEG power from delta to gamma frequency bands over the middle and posterior temporal regions with higher values in quiet sleep and on the right. (3) Time-frequency and averaging analyses showed that the delta component of DBs, which negatively peaked around 550 and 750 ms over the middle and posterior temporal regions, respectively, was superimposed with fast (alpha-gamma) oscillations and corresponded to the late part of the cortical auditory-evoked potential (CAEP), a feature missed when using classical CAEP processing. As evoked DBs rate and AERs delta to alpha frequency power decreased until full term, auditory-evoked DBs are thus associated with the prenatal development of auditory processing and may suggest an early emerging hemispheric specialization
