Accurate fault location algorithm on power transmission lines with use of two-end unsynchronized measurements

This paper presents a new approach to fault location on power transmission lines. This approach uses two-end unsynchronised measurements of the line and benefits from the advantages of digital technology and numerical relaying, which are available today and can easily be applied for off-line analysis. The approach is to modify the apparent impedance method using a very simple first-order formula. The new method is independent of fault resistance, source impedances and pre-fault currents. In addition, the data volume communicated between relays is sufficiently small enough to be transmitted easily using a digital protection channel. The proposed approach is tested via digital simulation using MATLand the applied test results corroborate the superior performance of the proposed approach

PID vs LQR controller for tilt rotor airplane

The main thematic of this paper is controlling the main manoeuvers of a tilt rotor UAV airplane in several modes such as vertical takeoff and landing, longitudinal translation and the most important phase which deal with the transition from the helicopter mode to the airplane mode and visversa based on a new actuators combination technique for specially the yaw motion with not referring to rotor speed control strategy which is used in controlling the attitude of a huge number of vehicles nowadays. This new actuator combination is inspired from that the transient response of a trirotor using tilting motion dynamics provides a faster response than using rotor speed dynamics. In the literature, a lot of control technics are used for stabilizing and guarantee the necessary manoeuvers for executing such task, a multiple Attitude and Altitude PID controllers were chosen for a simple linear model of our tilt rotor airplane in order to fulfill the desired trajectory, for reasons of complexity of our model the multiple PID controller doesnt take into consideration all the coupling that exists between the degrees of freedom in our model, so an LQR controller is adopted for more feasible solution of complex manoeuvering, the both controllers need linearization of the model for an easy implementation

Power Quality Enhancement in Electricity Grids with Wind Energy Using Multicell Converters and Energy Storage

In recent years, the wind power industry is experiencing a rapid growth and more wind farms with larger size wind turbines are being connected to the power system. While this contributes to the overall security of electricity supply, large-scale deployment of wind energy into the grid also presents many technical challenges. Most of these challenges are one way or another, related to the variability and intermittent nature of wind and affect the power quality of the distribution grid. Power quality relates to factors that cause variations in the voltage level and frequency as well as distortion in the voltage and current waveforms due to wind variability which produces both harmonics and inter-harmonics. The main motivation behind work is to propose a new topology of the static AC/DC/AC multicell converter to improve the power quality in grid-connected wind energy conversion systems. Serial switching cells have the ability to achieve a high power with lower-size components and improve the voltage waveforms at the input and output of the converter by increasing the number of cells. Furthermore, a battery energy storage system is included and a power management strategy is designed to ensure the continuity of power supply and consequently the autonomy of the proposed system. The simulation results are presented for a 149.2 kW wind turbine induction generator system and the results obtained demonstrate the reduced harmonics, improved transient response, and reference tracking of the voltage output of the wind energy conversion system.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio

In the title compound, C30H31NO2, the cyclohexanone ring in the naphthalene fused-ring system adopts a half-chair conformation, presumably due to conjugation of the benzene ring. The naphthalene ring system makes dihedral angles of 86.63 (7), 65.15 (8) and 63.18 (8)° with respect to the two methylbenzene planes and the 1,2-oxazole ring system. Intermolecular C—H⋯O and C—H⋯N hydrogen bonding and C—H⋯π interactions stabilize the crystal structure. The H atoms of the two methyl groups of the methylphenyl groups are disordered over two positions with equal occupancies

Power Quality Improvement of a Solar Energy Conversion System by a Coordinated Active and LCL Filtering

Power converters play an essential role in Photovoltaic (PV) system to maximize the power transfer to the electrical grid. However, the generated harmonics in the grids due to these power converters and nonlinear loads are considered one of the encountered problems to overcome. This paper presents a decoupled control of PV field real power and reactive power injected to the high voltage network via a PWM inverter by using fuzzy logic controllers. Elsewhere, a procedure based on a coordinated active and LCL filtering is proposed to mitigate the harmonic current introduced by a nonlinear load and the inverter itself in such a way to enhance the power quality injected into the grid. The results obtained in the present study show the good performance of the suggested hybrid filtering approach and demonstrate that almost all harmonics orders of the grid current are well mitigated; the current Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) meets its standard and consequently the power quality is considerably enhanced
