    Calculation of a Class of Three-Loop Vacuum Diagrams with Two Different Mass Values

    We calculate analytically a class of three-loop vacuum diagrams with two different mass values, one of which is one-third as large as the other, using the method of Chetyrkin, Misiak, and M\"{u}nz in the dimensional regularization scheme. All pole terms in \epsilon=4-D (D being the space-time dimensions in a dimensional regularization scheme) plus finite terms containing the logarithm of mass are kept in our calculation of each diagram. It is shown that three-loop effective potential calculated using three-loop integrals obtained in this paper agrees, in the large-N limit, with the overlap part of leading-order (in the large-N limit) calculation of Coleman, Jackiw, and Politzer [Phys.     Pure spinor computation towards open string three-loop

    Using the recent results in the pure spinor formulation, we lay out a ground-work towards the full momentum space amplitudes of open superstrings at three-loop. After briefly reviewing the one-loop amplitude, we directly work out the two-loop and reproduce the result that was obtained by a symmetry argument. For the three-loop, first we use the two-loop regulator as a warm-up exercise. The result vanishes. We then employ the regulator that has been recently proposed by Aisaka and Berkovits (AB). It is noted that the terms in higher power in 1λλˉ\frac{1}{\lambda\bar{\lambda}} that render the two-loop regulator disqualified for the three-loop do not contribute. This with a few other indications suggests a possibility that the AB regulator might also lead to a vanishing result. Nevertheless, we argue that it is possible to acquire the three-loop amplitude, and present a result that we anticipate to be the three-loop amplitude.Comment: 41 pages, latex, cosmetic change

    Hyperhomocysteinaemia is associated with coronary events in type 2 diabetes

    Objectives. Amongst nondiabetic individuals, a high serum homocysteine concentration is an independent but relatively weak risk factor for coronary events. However, it is not known whether homocysteine increases risk of coronary events in type 2 diabetes. Therefore, we examined the combined effect of homocysteine and type 2 diabetes on risk of fatal and nonfatal coronary events. Subjects. We assessed the 10-year risk of coronary events associated with homocysteine amongst diabetic (n = 140) and nondiabetic (n = 361) individuals. Design. We did this in the Hoorn Study, a population-based study of glucose tolerance and related complications in Caucasian men and women aged 50-75 years. Results. The incidence rate for coronary events was 2.63 (29 of 140) per 100 person-years amongst diabetic and 1.29 (42 of 361) amongst nondiabetic individuals. Amongst diabetic individuals, risk of coronary events increased 28% for each 5-ÎŒmol

    Evaluation of a New Balloon Catheter for Difficult Calcified Lesions in Infrainguinal Arterial Disease: Outcome of a Multicenter Registry

    The purpose of this study was to assess the technical performance and immediate procedure outcome of a new balloon catheter in the treatment of calcified lesions in infrainguinal arterial disease. Seventy-five patients with infrainguinal arterial disease were prospectively entered into the registry. The catheter (ReeKross Clearstream, Ireland) is a 5- to 6-Fr balloon catheter with a rigid shaft intended for enhanced pushability. Only technical procedural outcome was recorded. Treated calcified lesions (range: 5–30 cm), assessed angiographically, were located in the superficial femoral, popliteal, and crural arteries. In 67 patients the lesion was an occlusion. Guidewire passage occurred subintimally in 68 patients. In 24 patients a standard balloon catheter was chosen as first treatment catheter: 5 failed to cross the lesion, 8 balloons ruptured, and in 11 patients there was an inadequate dilatation result. In only one of the five patients did subsequent use of the ReeKross catheter also fail in lesion crossing. The ReeKross was successful as secondary catheter in the other 23 cases. In 50 patients the ReeKross was used as primary catheter. In total the ReeKross crossed the lesions in 74 patients. After passage and dilatation with this catheter in 73 patients (1 failed true-lumen reentry), 19 had >30% residual lesions, of which 11 were not treated and 8 were successfully stented. No ReeKross balloons ruptured. We conclude that in the treatment of difficult calcified lesions in arterial stenotic or occlusive disease, the choice of a high-pushability angioplasty catheter, with more calcification-resistant balloon characteristics, like the ReeKross, warrants consideration

    CP violation at colliders

    The prospects of experimental detection of CPCP violation at e+e−e^+e^- and pp/pp‟pp/p\overline{p} colliders are reviewed. After a general discussion on the quantities which can measure CPCP violation and on the implications of the CPTCPT theorem, various possibilities of measuring CPCP violation arising outside the standard model are taken up. CPCP violation in leptonic processes, especially polarization effects in e+e−→l+l−e^+e^-\rightarrow l^+l^- are discussed next. CPCP violation in tt‟t\overline{t} and W+W−W^+W^- production and decay is also described.     A retrospective in-depth analysis of continuous glucose monitoring datasets for patients with hepatic glycogen storage disease:Recommended outcome parameters for glucose management

    Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems have great potential for real-time assessment of glycemic variation in patients with hepatic glycogen storage disease (GSD). However, detailed descriptions and in-depth analysis of CGM data from hepatic GSD patients during interventions are scarce. This is a retrospective in-depth analysis of CGM parameters, acquired in a continuous, real-time fashion describing glucose management in 15 individual GSD patients. CGM subsets are obtained both in-hospital and at home, upon nocturnal dietary intervention (n = 1), starch loads (n = 11) and treatment of GSD Ib patients with empagliflozin (n = 3). Descriptive CGM parameters, and parameters reflecting glycemic variation and glycemic control are considered useful CGM outcome parameters. Furthermore, the combination of first and second order derivatives, cumulative sum and Fourier analysis identified both subtle and sudden changes in glucose management; hence, aiding assessment of dietary and medical interventions. CGM data interpolation for nocturnal intervals reduced confounding by physical activity and diet. Based on these analyses, we conclude that in-depth CGM analysis can be a powerful tool to assess glucose management and optimize treatment in individual hepatic GSD patients

    A preliminary study of telemedicine for patients with hepatic glycogen storage disease and their healthcare providers:from bedside to home site monitoring

    BackgroundThe purpose of this project was to develop a telemedicine platform that supports home site monitoring and integrates biochemical, physiological, and dietary parameters for individual patients with hepatic glycogen storage disease (GSD). Methods and resultsThe GSD communication platform (GCP) was designed with input from software developers, GSD patients, researchers, and healthcare providers. In phase 1, prototyping and software design of the GCP has occurred. The GCP was composed of a GSD App for patients and a GSD clinical dashboard for healthcare providers. In phase 2, the GCP was tested by retrospective patient data entry. The following software functionalities were included (a) dietary registration and prescription module, (b) emergency protocol module, and (c) data import functions for continuous glucose monitor devices and activity wearables. In phase 3, the GSD App was implemented in a pilot study of eight patients with GSD Ia (n=3), GSD IIIa (n=1), and GSD IX (n=4). Usability was measured by the system usability scale (SUS). The mean SUS score was 64/100 [range: 38-93]. ConclusionsThis report describes the design, development, and validation process of a telemedicine platform for patients with hepatic GSD. The GCP can facilitate home site monitoring and data exchange between patients with hepatic GSD and healthcare providers under varying circumstances. In the future, the GCP may support cross-border healthcare, second opinion processes and clinical trials, and could possibly also be adapted for other diseases for which a medical diet is the cornerstone

    Weak dipole moment of τ\tau in e+e−e^+e^- collisions with longitudinally polarized electrons

    It is pointed out that certain CP-odd momentum correlations in the production and subsequent decay of tau pairs in e+e−e^+e^- collisions get enhanced when the e−e^- is longitudinally polarized. Analytic expressions for these correlations are obtained for the single-pion decay mode of τ\tau when τ+τ−\tau^+\tau^- have a ``weak" dipole form factor (WDFF) coupling to ZZ . For e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the ZZ peak, a sensitivity of about 1-5×10−17\times 10^{-17}\mbox{ee cm} for the τ\tau WDFF can be reached using a {\em single} τ+τ−\tau^+\tau^- decay channel, with 106 Z10^6\, Z's likely to be available at the SLC at Stanford with e−e^- polarization of 62\%-75\%.Comment: 9 pages, Latex, PRL-TH-93/17 (Revised
