    Removal of inorganic nutrient and organic carbon from wastewater of Binh Dien market using the green alga Chlorella sp.

    Traditional markets play a major role in socio-economics and constitutes a significant aspect of Vietnamese culture. However, wastewater streams discharged from the markets are generally characterized by a lot of inorganic nutrients and organic substances originated from fresh food processing units. They could lead to serious water contamination if discharged without proper treatment. This study applied microalgae Chlorella sp. for eliminating inorganic nutrients (NO3--N, NH4+-N and PO43--P) and organic carbon (Chemical oxygen demand-COD) from wastewater of the Binh Dien market. The removal efficiencies reached for NH4+-N > 86%, for NO3--N > 72%, and for PO43--P > 69%, respectively, at algal density of 49 x 104 cell mL-1, and for COD > 96% at algal density of 35 x 104 cell mL-1 after five cultivating days. The effluence satisfied the Vietnamese standard, column B, of the National technical regulation on industrial wastewater (QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT). The results demonstrated that the culture system composed of green algal Chlorella sp. could be a potential candidate for the removal of nutrients and organic carbon by a wastewater treatment process from the Binh Dien market

    STEM education is an educational solution that prepares pupils for the future by connecting scientific knowledge with practical applications. This modern method of education is being widely applied in developing countries in order to maintain their scientific and technical standing and strengthen their competition in the global economy. In Vietnam, special attention has been paid to STEM education, as is demonstrated by the policies and guidelines of the Party and State. However, are the skills of the universal teaching staff, particularly in primary schools, sufficient to satisfy the demand for STEM education? A survey was carried out to analyze the current situation with regards the STEM teaching skills of primary school teachers in the district of Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City. By analyzing the survey results using SPSS, this article presents the current status of the STEM teaching skills of the primary school teachers in Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City, and suggests some solutions to improve and develop teachers’ STEM education skills, suitable for the teaching conditions in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

    Survey on fashion consumption trends of Vietnamese young people

    Young people today are increasingly active and always like to try new trends in many fields. Especially in the field of fashion, mixing clothes is applied boldly and extremely diversely by young people. A fashion trend is an innovation in style that is adopted by a group of people at a certain time and area. Trends are formed based on factors: people, acceptance, time, and place. The article surveyed 300 young people of generation Z in Vietnam, the results showed that the number of fashion enthusiasts is very large, 70.7%, personal preference factors are the biggest influence on people’s fashion choices. According to the survey subjects, online fashion shopping is chosen by young people at a large rate. KOL (Key Opinion Leader) currently plays a very important role in building and developing fashion brands. Vietnamese fashion accounts for the highest proportion in choosing fashion products associated with product origin. The survey shows that they are most interested in “Product style and design”, “A neat appearance” ... The article also mentions some opinions about fashion and money that young people are willing and able to pay for per month. From there, the research team launched several exchanges and discussions with Vietnamese fashion businesses to meet consumer needs and build brands in the market

    Assessment of earthquake-induced ground liquefaction susceptibility for Hanoi city using geological and geomorphologic characteristics

    In this paper, the earthquake-induced liquefaction susceptibility of Hanoi city is assessed using the recent published geological and geomorphologic data. A combination of classification methods based on the distribution of sedimentary deposits proposed by Youd and Perkins (1978) and geomorphologic units proposed by Iwasaki (1982) was applied. The subsurface lithology and geomorphologic maps were combined in a GIS platform for assessing the liquefaction susceptibility of Hanoi city.The resulting map shows that the liquefaction hazard of Hanoi city classified into four categories: high, moderate, low liquefaction potential and not likely areas. In the most of Hanoi area, the ground liquefaction potentials are moderate. The high liquefaction likely areas spread along the river beds and around the lake areas. The not likely and low liquefaction potential areas are observed mainly in the northwest and northeast of the study region such as Chanchim, Soc Son, and Bavi mountains.     Assessment of blasted excavation inaccuracy at tunnel face and influences on tunnelling effectiveness

    Blasting has been the most effective solution for tunnel excavation in hard rock. The accuracy of the blasting works is demonstrated by the similarity between the design and the actual excavation boundary. Hence, the overbreak and underbreak of the tunnel boundary are used to evaluate the tunnel excavation. Widely applied for rock tunnelling, New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) has been used for almost all highway tunnels in Vietnam. The assessment of the previous projects is essential since it provides learnt experiences and enriches the knowledge to handle the tunnelling technology. With this aim, the paper studied the case of a 500m NATM tunnel located on the N01 national highway in Central Vietnam. The practical excavation zone was examined, and the overbreak and underbreak of the tunnel boundary during the excavation by explosive was investigated. The dependences of the overbreak and underbreak on the geological and technical conditions were indicated. The tunnelling effectiveness was then assessed through the additional materials and works for the face correction activities
