Traumatic renal artery occlusion associated with a grade III hepatic injury in an 11-year-old boy: A case report
AbstractBlunt trauma represents a major cause of death in children. Multi-trauma is defined as life-threatening injury of two or more body regions and remains a challenge for diagnosis and therapy. Here, we present a case of an 11-year-old boy with a traumatic renal artery occlusion associated with a hepatic injury, which was treated with conservative non-operative treatment. Prompt diagnosis and conservative treatment of a traumatic renal artery occlusion in a pediatric patient may lead to a successful outcome, avoiding unnecessary laparotomy
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AGAINST MAJOR EARTHQUAKES
This paper describes fundamental issues of the traffic management systems and the actual traffic conditions following the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Based on these issues, a new concept of traffic management system against an earthquake disaster is proposed, and the effectiveness of 2-stage area traffic regulation is examined through the case study for accommodation of personal passenger car demand immediately after the earthquake. Additionally an integrated traffic management system against a major earthquake and the related issues are discussed. It is expected that ITS technology will play an important role in the future development of traffic management system during an earthquake disaster.

Sheet Dependence on Superconducting Gap in Oxygen-Deficient Iron-based Oxypnictide Superconductors NdFeAs0.85
Photoemission spectroscopy with low-energy tunable photons on
oxygen-deficient iron-based oxypnictide superconductors NdFeAsO0.85 (Tc=52K)
reveals a distinct photon-energy dependence of the electronic structure near
the Fermi level (EF). A clear shift of the leading-edge can be observed in the
superconducting states with 9.5 eV photons, while a clear Fermi cutoff with
little leading-edge shift can be observed with 6.0 eV photons. The results are
indicative of the superconducting gap opening not on the hole-like ones around
Gamma (0,0) point but on the electron-like sheets around M(pi,pi) point.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

After the application of the law for organ transplantation from deceased donors in Japan 10years ago, the cumulative numbers of organ procurement and liver transplantation from suchdonors have been only 61 and 44 cases, respectively so far. Over 99% of liver grafts have beenprocured from living donors in Japan, although over 95% of liver grafts are originated fromdeceased donors in the United States. As the ethical problems in organ procurement from livingdonors have been advocated worldwide recently, establishment of actual plans for increase oforgan donation from deceased donors is necessary now. For such purposes, three strategies,including positive and active donor actions form medical staffs, revision of the consent form fororgan donation, and more active participation of Japanese organ bank into donor management,could be the clue for increase in organ procurements
Chiral orbital-angular-momentum in the surface states of Bi2Se3
Locking of the spin of a quasi-particle to its momentum in split bands of on
the surfaces of metals and topological insulators (TIs) is understood in terms
of Rashba effect where a free electron in the surface states feels an effective
magnetic field. On the other hand, the orbital part of the angular momentum
(OAM) is usually neglected. We performed angle resolved photoemission
experiments with circularly polarized lights and first principles density
functional calculation with spin-orbit coupling on a TI, Bi2Se3, to study the
local OAM of the surface states. We show from the results that OAM in the
surface states of Bi2Se3 is significant and locked to the electron momentum in
opposite direction to the spin, forming chiral OAM states. Our finding opens a
new possibility to have strong light-induced spin-polarized current in the

Observation of a Highly Spin Polarized Topological Surface State in GeBiTe
Spin polarization of a topological surface state for GeBiTe, the
newly discovered three-dimensional topological insulator, has been studied by
means of the state of the art spin- and angle-resolved photoemission
spectroscopy. It has been revealed that the disorder in the crystal has a minor
effect on the surface state spin polarization and it exceeds 75% near the Dirac
point in the bulk energy gap region (180 meV). This new finding for
GeBiTe promises not only to realize a highly spin polarized surface
isolated transport but to add new functionality to its thermoelectric and
thermomagnetic properties.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Electronic structure of Fe1.04(Te0.66Se0.34)
We report the electronic structure of the iron-chalcogenide superconductor,
Fe1.04(Te0.66Se0.34), obtained with high resolution angle-resolved
photoemission spectroscopy and density functional calculations. In
photoemission measurements, various photon energies and polarizations are
exploited to study the Fermi surface topology and symmetry properties of the
bands. The measured band structure and their symmetry characters qualitatively
agree with our density function theory calculations of Fe(Te0.66Se0.34),
although the band structure is renormalized by about a factor of three. We find
that the electronic structures of this iron-chalcogenides and the
iron-pnictides have many aspects in common, however, significant differences
exist near the Gamma-point. For Fe1.04(Te0.66Se0.34), there are clearly
separated three bands with distinct even or odd symmetry that cross the Fermi
energy (EF) near the zone center, which contribute to three hole-like Fermi
surfaces. Especially, both experiments and calculations show a hole-like
elliptical Fermi surface at the zone center. Moreover, no sign of spin density
wave was observed in the electronic structure and susceptibility measurements

Survival outcomes of hepatectomy for stage B Hepatocellular carcinoma in the BCLC classification
Background: Because hepatectomy is not recommended in patients with stage B hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) of the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging, we evaluated the survival outcomes of hepatectomy for stage B in the BCLC system. Methods: Data were collected from 297 consecutive adult stage B patients who underwent curative hepatectomy for HCC between 1996 and 2014 in Hokkaido University Hospital. Overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and risk factors were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Independent prognostic factors were evaluated using a Cox proportional hazards regression model. AP-factor (alpha-fetoprotein [AFP] × protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonism factor II [PIVKA-II]) was categorized according to the serum concentrations of AFP and PIVKA-II: AP1 (AFP < 200 ng/ml and PIVKA-II < 100 mAU/ml), AP2 (AFP × PIVKA-II < 10^5), and AP3 (AFP × PIVKA-II ≥ 10^5). Results: There were 130 deaths among our 297 stage B patients (43.8%). The causes of death in these cases were HCC recurrence (n = 106; 81.5%), liver failure (n = 7; 5.4%), and other causes (n = 17; 16.1%). The operative mortality rate was 0.34% (1/297). The 5-year OS and DFS rates for the stage B cases were 54.3 and 21.9%, respectively. By multivariate analysis, tumor number and AP-factor were risk factors for both survival and recurrence that were tumor related and could be evaluated preoperatively. The study patients with stage B HCC were classified into three groups by tumor number (B1, 1; B23, 2 or 3; B4over: ≥4) and into three groups stratified by AP-factor (AP1, AP2, and AP3). The 5-year OS rates of B1, B23, and B4over were 63.6, 52.3, and 29.0%. The 5-year OS rates of AP1, AP2, and AP3 were 67.6, 65.2, and 39.1%. Stratified by the 5-year OS rate, stage B HCC patients were classified into three subgroups (A-C).The 5-year OS rates of groups A (B1 or B23 and AP-1 or AP-2), B (B1 or B23 and AP-3, or B4over and AP-1 or AP-2), and C (B4over and AP-3) were 69.5, 43.7, and 21.3%. Conclusion: Stage B HCC patients with a tumor number ≤ 3 and/or AP-factor < 1 × 10^5 show acceptable 5-year OS rates and could be treated by hepatectomy
