Role of Bosnian-Herzegovinian (Bosnian) Immigrant Organizations in Sweden on Socio-Economic Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnia)
This thesis aims to contribute to the growing field of research on migrant transnationalism by analyzing immigrant organizations among Bosnian immigrants in Sweden. The main focus of the study is on the effects of the immigrant transnationalism phenomenon for socio-economic development within home communities by investigating and analyzing the structures and processes that allow transnational activities to take place. The research applies qualitative methods involving fifteen in-depth interviews with leaders of immigrant organizations and three interviews with counterpart organizations and government officials in Bosnia. The findings reveal that the bounded solidarity is the primary motive for initiating and implementing transnational projects among immigrants. In addition, the ability to navigate in both localities – host and home – enables these organizations to effectively implement their activities in both contexts. To ensure that the results of their projects reach the beneficiaries, immigrant organizations to some extent rely on their local contacts and trusted collaborators in the home state. This allows immigrant organizations to use informal channels and structures in the implementation of their transnational projects and activities
Relative Invariants, Ideal Classes and Quasi-Canonical Modules of Modular Rings of Invariants
We describe "quasi canonical modules" for modular invariant rings of
finite group actions on factorial Gorenstein domains. From this we derive a
general "quasi Gorenstein criterion" in terms of certain 1-cocycles. This
generalizes a recent result of A. Braun for linear group actions on polynomial
rings, which itself generalizes a classical result of Watanabe for non-modular
invariant rings.
We use an explicit classification of all reflexive rank one -modules,
which is given in terms of the class group of , or in terms of

Inciting Peace From the Inside Out
Violence and war can be incited, and so can peace. This volume shares select addresses and responses from Seton Hall University’s 2/7/23 conference “Inciting Peace From The Inside Out.” A multi-disciplinary range of scholars each addresses how reconciliation processes grow from spiritual dynamics. Multiple religious traditions teach contemplative praxes that prioritize and nurture personal reflection oriented toward peace. Social conflicts divide, so engaging them with a partisan orientation only serves to escalate harmful rifts. In contrast, bringing personal awareness and sensitivity, spiritual balance, and holistic integral perspective to conflict can transcend divisions and work toward unity. Factors associated with non-carbapenemase mediated carbapenem resistance of Gram-negative bacteria: a retrospective case-control study
Infections with carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria are related to increased morbidity and mortality, yet little is known regarding infections caused by non-beta-lactamase mediated carbapenem-resistant bacteria. Our objective was to identify risk factors for, and the clinical impact of infections caused by carbapenem-resistant carbapenemase-negative Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This retrospective matched case-control study was performed at the University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland, in 2016. We focused on other resistance mechanisms by excluding laboratory-confirmed carbapenemase-positive cases. Carbapenem resistance was set as the primary endpoint, and important risk factors were investigated by conditional logistic regression. The clinical impact of carbapenem resistance was estimated using regression models containing the resistance indicator as explanatory factor and adjusting for potential confounders. Seventy-five cases of infections with carbapenem-resistant, carbapenemase-negative bacteria were identified and matched with 75 controls with carbapenem-susceptible infections. The matched data set was well-balanced regarding age, gender, and comorbidity. Duration of prior carbapenem treatment (OR 1.15, [1.01, 1.31]) correlated with resistance to carbapenems. Our study showed that patients with carbapenem-resistant bacteria stayed 1.59 times (CI [0.81, 3.14]) longer in an ICU. The analyzed dataset did not provide evidence for strong clinical implications of resistance to carbapenems or increased mortality. The duration of prior carbapenem treatment seems to be a strong risk factor for the development of carbapenem resistance. The higher risk for a longer ICU stay could be a consequence of a carbapenem resistance. In contrast to carbapenemase-producers, the clinical impact of carbapenamase-negative, carbapenem-resistant strains may be limited. Identification of microorganisms by a rapid PCR panel from positive blood cultures leads to faster optimal antimicrobial therapy - a before-after study
BACKGROUND
The BioFire® FilmArray® Blood Culture Identification Panel 1 (BF-FA-BCIP) detects microorganisms with high accuracy in positive blood cultures (BC) - a key step in the management of patients with suspected bacteraemia. We aimed to compare the time to optimal antimicrobial therapy (OAT) for the BF-FA-BCIP vs. standard culture-based identification.
METHODS
In this retrospective single-centre study with a before-after design, 386 positive BC cases with identification by BF-FA-BCIP were compared to 414 controls with culture-based identification. The primary endpoint was the time from BC sampling to OAT. Secondary endpoints were time to effective therapy, length of stay, (re-)admission to ICU, in-hospital and 30-day mortality. Outcomes were assessed using Cox proportional hazard models and logistic regressions.
RESULTS
Baseline characteristics of included adult inpatients were comparable. Main sources of bacteraemia were urinary tract and intra-abdominal infection (19.2% vs. 22.0% and 16.8% vs. 15.7%, for cases and controls, respectively). Median (95%CI) time to OAT was 25.5 (21.0-31.2) hours with BF-FA-BCIP compared to 45.7 (37.7-51.4) hours with culture-based identification. We observed no significant difference for secondary outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS
Rapid microorganism identification by BF-FA-BCIP was associated with a median 20-h earlier initiation of OAT in patients with positive BC. No impact on length of stay and mortality was noted.

Novel Organism Verification and Analysis (NOVA) study: identification of 35 clinical isolates representing potentially novel bacterial taxa using a pipeline based on whole genome sequencing
BACKGROUND
Reliable species identification of cultured isolates is essential in clinical bacteriology. We established a new study algorithm named NOVA - Novel Organism Verification and Analysis to systematically analyze bacterial isolates that cannot be characterized by conventional identification procedures MALDI-TOF MS and partial 16Â S rRNA gene sequencing using Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
RESULTS
We identified a total of 35 bacterial strains that represent potentially novel species. Corynebacterium sp. (n = 6) and Schaalia sp. (n = 5) were the predominant genera. Two strains each were identified within the genera Anaerococcus, Clostridium, Desulfovibrio, and Peptoniphilus, and one new species was detected within Citrobacter, Dermabacter, Helcococcus, Lancefieldella, Neisseria, Ochrobactrum (Brucella), Paenibacillus, Pantoea, Porphyromonas, Pseudoclavibacter, Pseudomonas, Psychrobacter, Pusillimonas, Rothia, Sneathia, and Tessaracoccus. Twenty-seven of 35 strains were isolated from deep tissue specimens or blood cultures. Seven out of 35 isolated strains identified were clinically relevant. In addition, 26 bacterial strains that could only be identified at the species level using WGS analysis, were mainly organisms that have been identified/classified very recently.
CONCLUSION
Our new algorithm proved to be a powerful tool for detection and identification of novel bacterial organisms. Publicly available clinical and genomic data may help to better understand their clinical and ecological role. Diagnostic challenges within the Bacillus cereus-group: finding the beast without teeth
The Bacillus cereus-group (B. cereus sensu lato) includes common, usually avirulent species, often considered contaminants of patient samples in routine microbiological diagnostics, as well as the highly virulent B. anthracis. Here we describe 16 isolates from 15 patients, identified as B. cereus-group using a MALDI-TOF MS standard database. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) analysis identified five of the isolates as B. anthracis species not carrying the typical virulence plasmids pXO1 and pXO2, four isolates as B. paranthracis, three as B. cereus sensu stricto, two as B. thuringiensis, one as B. mobilis, and one isolate represents a previously undefined species of Bacillus (B. basilensis sp. nov.). More detailed analysis using alternative MALDI-TOF MS databases, biochemical phenotyping, and diagnostic PCRs, gave further conflicting species results. These cases highlight the difficulties in identifying avirulent B. anthracis within the B. cereus-group using standard methods. WGS and alternative MALDI-TOF MS databases offer more accurate species identification, but so far are not routinely applied. Correlation between ECG changes and early left ventricular remodeling in preadolescent footballers
The aim of this study was to assess the early electrocardiogram (ECG) changes induced by physical training in preadolescent elite footballers. This study included 94 preadolescent highly trained male footballers (FG) competing in Serbian Football League (minimum of 7 training hours/week) and 47 age-matched healthy male controls (less than 2 training hours/week) (CG). They were screened by ECG and echocardiography at a tertiary referral cardio center. Sokolow–Lyon index was used as a voltage electrocardiographic criterion for left ventricular hypertrophy diagnosis. Characteristic ECG intervals and voltage were compared and reference range was given for preadolescent footballers. Highly significant differences between FG and CG were registered in all ECG parameters: P-wave voltage (p 1–2 + R V5–6 (p  0.05). During 6-year follow-up period, there was no adverse cardiac event in these footballers. None of them expressed pathological ECG changes. Benign ECG changes are presented in the early stage of athlete’s heart remodeling, but they are not related to pathological ECG changes and they should be regarded as ECG pattern of LV remodeling
