    As a newly elected trial judge in the state of Louisiana in 1996, one of the most important decisions I made was joining the American Judges Association, the Voice of the Judiciary®—the premier organization of judges, for judges. That marked the beginning of my commitment to becoming the best judge I could be, and to working to make our judiciary the finest in the world. Having just celebrated Thanksgiving with my family, I feel compelled to begin my year as president of the American Judges Association by pointing out all the thank-yous I have for our organization

    The Solid Rocket Booster Cost Accounting and Tracking System (SCATS) which is an automatic data processing system designed to keep a running account of the number, description, and estimated cost of Level 2, 3, and 4 changes is described. Although designed specifically for the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster Program, the ADP system can be used for any other program that has a similar structure for recording, reporting, and summing numbers and costs of changes. The program stores the alpha-numeric designators for changes, government estimated costs, proposed costs, and negotiated value in a MIRADS (Marshall Information Retrieval and Display System) format which permits rapid access, manipulation, and reporting of current change status. Output reports listing all changes, totals of each level, and totals of all levels, can be derived for any calendar interval period

    Klima je posredni ekološki čimbenik koji uz tlo je i najvažniji stanišni čimbenik. Klima je određena vrijednostima različitih klimatskih elemenata i pojava. Za razvoj šumske vegetacije najvažnije su temperature zraka, količine oborina, vlaga zraka, snijeg i vjetar. Cilj istraživanja je bio utvrditi promjene klimatskih elemenata za meteorološku postaju Gospić. Trendovi klimatskih elemenata su analizirani pomoću linearnog trenda. Uspoređene su vrijednosti klimatskih elementa referentnog niza sa razdobljem 1991-2013. Na području meteorološke postaje Gospić je utvrđeno značajno povećanje srednjih godišnjih i maksimalnih temperatura zraka, te broja toplih i vrućih dana. Trend količina oborina se značajno smanjivao.     Hole Spin Coherence in a Ge/Si Heterostructure Nanowire

    Relaxation and dephasing of hole spins are measured in a gate-defined Ge/Si nanowire double quantum dot using a fast pulsed-gate method and dispersive readout. An inhomogeneous dephasing time T20.18 μsT_2^* \sim 0.18~\mathrm{\mu s} exceeds corresponding measurements in III-V semiconductors by more than an order of magnitude, as expected for predominately nuclear-spin-free materials. Dephasing is observed to be exponential in time, indicating the presence of a broadband noise source, rather than Gaussian, previously seen in systems with nuclear-spin-dominated dephasing.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figure

    Antilocalization of Coulomb Blockade in a Ge-Si Nanowire

    The distribution of Coulomb blockade peak heights as a function of magnetic field is investigated experimentally in a Ge-Si nanowire quantum dot. Strong spin-orbit coupling in this hole-gas system leads to antilocalization of Coulomb blockade peaks, consistent with theory. In particular, the peak height distribution has its maximum away from zero at zero magnetic field, with an average that decreases with increasing field. Magnetoconductance in the open-wire regime places a bound on the spin-orbit length (lsol_{so} < 20 nm), consistent with values extracted in the Coulomb blockade regime (lsol_{so} < 25 nm).Comment: Supplementary Information available at http://bit.ly/19pMpd

    Parity lifetime of bound states in a proximitized semiconductor nanowire

    Quasiparticle excitations can compromise the performance of superconducting devices, causing high frequency dissipation, decoherence in Josephson qubits, and braiding errors in proposed Majorana-based topological quantum computers. Quasiparticle dynamics have been studied in detail in metallic superconductors but remain relatively unexplored in semiconductor-superconductor structures, which are now being intensely pursued in the context of topological superconductivity. To this end, we introduce a new physical system comprised of a gate-confined semiconductor nanowire with an epitaxially grown superconductor layer, yielding an isolated, proximitized nanowire segment. We identify Andreev-like bound states in the semiconductor via bias spectroscopy, determine the characteristic temperatures and magnetic fields for quasiparticle excitations, and extract a parity lifetime (poisoning time) of the bound state in the semiconductor exceeding 10 ms.Comment: text and supplementary information combine
