In April, 1975, an intensive archaeological survey was carried out in the area proposed for the construction of Floodwater Retarding Structure No. 1, located on the West Fork of Dry Comal Creek, in Comal County, south central Texas (see Fig. 1). The survey was conducted in terms of an agreement (1339-TX-SCS-75) between the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service and the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio. An initial reconnaissance of the area was conducted by Center personnel in November, 1974 and six archaeological sites were located (Hester, Bass and Kelly 1975). However, it was recognized that a more thorough survey would be required in order to fully appraise the archaeological resources at the locality. Therefore, an intensive survey was recommended in the published report of the 1974 investigations (Hester, Bass and Kelly 1975: 22-23). The reader is referred to Hester, Bass and Kelly (1975) for a discussion of previous archaeological research in Comal County. A description of the Floodwater Retarding Structure No. 1 vicinity is also provided in that report. The dam site, and the sediment, flood, and detention pools, will encompass an area of approximately 276 acres (112 hectares)

Voltage regulator dissipates minimal power and functions as a voltage divider

Regulator requires minimum amount of power for voltage division and it is not required continuously. The only power loss, except for regulating purposes, is that needed to provide for imbalances in load current requirements. For balanced loads, only leakage current flows through regulating transistors

Martinez, California.March 11, 1903.Dr. C. Rowell,Sacramento, Gal.My dear Sir:-The High Sierra is always open and hospitable to Mountaineers afoot, but with pack animals nearly all the region above an elevation of 7000 or 8000 feet is inaccessible until about the end of June. If the Presidents trip must be short, and be made in April or May I agree with you that he had better go to Yosemite by public conveyance. And from the Valley as a central camp, excursions could be made afoot to high points around the rim commanding general views of the Range.I have agreed to go with a party on a trip through the forests of Russia, Manchuria and Japan. This party is to sail from New York about the last of May or early in June. Until that time I shall be glad to devote myself to the President and go the President and go with him wherever he likes. I am aware that April or May will be too early in the season to permit of a wry extended trip in the higher altitudes, but if the visit should be in the middle or the latter part of May one might be able to go beyond Yosemite or even Into the Kings River country. My own judgment is that the President will do best to make the trip to Yosemite by Public conveyance, and If he wished to go into the less frequented Sierra regions it would be better for him to take advantage of the military outfits at Mineral King or soma like point. If he attempt anything of the kind, he wishes It to be entirely unknown, carried out with great secrecy so that the crowds will not follow or annoy Mia. and he suggested that ha could foot It and rough It with you or anybody else.Wow while I think that the President\u27s ideas are more a ma matter of impulse than good judgment, I haws complied with the request male to me by Senator Bard, and in this way confer with you about it.It was the Senator\u27s request that the matter be in no way talked about or made public as he has acted upon a suggestion of the President, and has taken the responsibility himself to confer with[03179] Letter from C[hester] Rowell to John Muir, 1903 Mar 10.
