Mass spectrometer detects high molecular weight components
Monopole mass spectrometer uses sweep method to detect vacuum system contaminants. Method requires little increase of total scanning time
Monopole mass spectrometer with improved sensitivity and reduced background
Monopole mass spectrometer is increased by nearly an order of magnitude when a weak external magnetic field is applied so that the ion beam is deflected towards the rod. This magnetic field eliminates background noise at the low end of the mass scale
Mass spectrometric determination of the composition of the Venus clouds
The instrumentation is analyzed for determining the composition of the clouds on Venus. Direct analysis of the gas phase atmosphere, and the detection of ferrous chloride with a mass spectrometer are dicussed along with the mass analyzer, and the pre-separation of cloud particles from the ambient atmosphere
Interpretation of surface features of Europa obtained from occultations by Io
Light curves of occultations of Europa by Io were used to generate a crude map of albedo features on Europa. Impact parameters and magnitude ratios for each event were imposed on a model. Residuals between the observed and computed light curves were interpreted as albedo features on Europa. In order to improve the fit between the observations and the model a general polar brightening was employed. The effects of additional albedo features and alternate models are discussed

PentaSim : a numerical simulation of a Penning Trap
Numerical simulations have proven to be an effective approach for studying ion trajectories for different types of mass spectrometers. PentaSim, developed in this work, is a modular tool for numerical simulation of a single ion in ideal and cylindrical Penning-trap experiments. The tool uses a polynomial expansion of the electric potentials and magnetic field to allow the calculation of trajectories for different settings that are not constrained by cylindrical symmetry. In particular, realistic maps of the electric potential, e.g. from Finite Element Method calculations can be imported. Therefore, PentaSim is a promising framework for the investigation of systematic effects induced by machining imperfections and higher order terms of the electric potential and magnetic field with the goal of enhancing the sensitivity of state-of-the-art mass spectrometry experiments such as Pentatrap. In addition, the option to incorporate high-frequency excitation and conversion pulses of any form in the simulation could be leveraged to probe new measurement techniques. The accuracy of the simulation predictions were benchmarked against established theory. Relative residuals below 10−8 and 10−13 were obtained using a simulation time step of 10−12 s for the fast modified cyclotron frequency and slow magnetron frequency, respectively
