Market Participation, Information and Volatility

We analyze how the entry of less informed participants in a market for a risky asset affects the volatility of the price of the asset. In an endogenous participation model, we show that in equilibrium the new market entrants are less informed than the rest of the participants. We study how volatility depends on market participation and on the level of information of the participants. The condition that guarantees that new market participation leads to increased asset price volatility, is that all investors are sufficiently risk-averse. Al hablar de Dios, Tomás de Aquino sigue la tradición de los Padres, quienes incorporaron a la doctrina de la fe los datos filosóficos sobre el absoluto –no sin antes cribarlos a la luz de la revelación– alejados de toda presunción de reducir la fe a la razón o de comprender exhaustivamente los misterios revelados. Una lectura atenta de las cuestiones "De Deo" de las obras tomasianas permite admirar la cuidadosa purificación a la que se han visto sometidas las concepciones de lo divino provenientes del mundo filosófico. Nuestro trabajo se detiene en el punto culminante de ese proceso y muestra, principalmente a partir de la "Summa Theologiae", cómo Tomás adopta la doctrina aristotélica de la ciencia divina asimilada a la concepción bíblica de un Dios creador y providente que conoce todas las creaturas. El legado dionisiano juega en este asunto un papel significativo y la teoría de la causalidad eficiente le confiere una profunda inteligibilidad teológica.Speaking of God, Thomas Aquinas follows the tradition of the Fathers, who incorporated philosophical divinity data to the doctrine of faith, but not before sifting them with the light of revelation, far from any presumption of reducing faith to reason or fully understand the mysteries revealed. A close reading of the questions about God from the works of St. Thomas allows us to admire the careful purification which have undergone the conceptions of the divine belonging to the philosophical world. Our work stops at the highest point of this process and shows, especially from the "Summa Theologiae", how Thomas adopts the Aristotelian doctrine of the divine knowledge likened to the biblical conception of God, creator and provident, who knows every creature in its uniqueness. The Dionysian legacy on this issue plays a significant role and the theory of efficient causality gives a profound theological intelligibility.peerReviewe

Simplicidad de Dios y pluralidad de nombres divinos : ¿una contradicción?

En el siglo XIII, ningún autor negaba la absoluta simplicidad de Dios. Sin embargo, se utilizaban múltiples nombres para hablar de lo divino. ¿Se pueden considerar verdaderos todos esos predicados, sin que ello implique concebir una multiplicidad real en la esencia divina? Este trabajo intenta mostrar, bajo la guía de Tomás de Aquino, que la pluralidad de atributos divinos no contradice la simplicidad divina y que, sin entenderlos como sinónimos, dichos nombres constituyen predicaciones verdaderas in divinis.In the XIIIth century, nobody deny the God’s absolute simplicity. Nevertheless, multiple names were used to speak about the divinity. Can all these predicates be considered to be real, without implying a real multiplicity in the divine essence? This paper intent to show, under the guide of Thomas Aquinas, that the plurality of divine attributes does not contradict the divine simplicity and, even if not synonyms, these names constitute truth preaching in divinis.Fil: Herrera, Juan José. Design of a vertical movement stage for surface machining

Thesis (S.B.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, June 2007."May 2007."To allow the widespread use of three dimensional patterns on walls, the manufacturing cost must be reduced. The goal of this project is to design a machine for vertical axis movement which can be measured and controlled. The key issues addressed in this thesis, are the motion past obstacles in the extrusions, a lightweight mechanism that is stiff with minimal horizontal deflections, can adjust to different heights and can support its own weight. The design favored consisted of a chain drive designed to travel 3 meters in 10 seconds at a weight of 30 Kilograms. The machine is kept in place by five points of contact, including a fixed sprocket and four sliding V-grooved rollers. The machine was tested for stability, stiffness and its ability to traverse the entire chain without problems.by Juan Herrera.S.B

El atributo divino de simplicidad en la Summa theologiae de Alberto Magno

El desarrollo albertino más acabado acerca de la simplicidad de la esencia divina pertenece a la Summa theologiae, redactada a partir de 1268. Allí también se estudian otras propiedades como la esencialidad y la inmutabilidad, pero la que aparece en perfecta correspondencia con la unidad divina es la simplicidad. Nuestro trabajo busca analizar los principales argumentos expuestos por Alberto Magno en la q. 20 del primer libro de la Summa, y detectar los núcleos especulativos que dan razón de la consistencia de la doctrina de la simplicidad divina y de su coherencia con la multiplicidad de atributos y de personas en Dios.The Albert the Great’s most complete development of the simplicity of the divine essence is in his Summa Theologiae, written about 1268. In this work, he also studied other properties such as essenciality and immutability, but simplicity is which appears in a perfect correspondence with the divine unity. This paper analyzes the main arguments by Albert the Great in q. 20, book I of the Summa, looking to find the speculatives topics that explain the doctrine of divine simplicity consistent with the multiplicity of attributes and persons in God.Fil: Herrera, Juan José.
