One significant challenge in the effectiveness of this therapy is the potential development of resistance mechanisms, where autophagy up-regulation has been proposed as a key contributing factor. However, there is a lack of reliable biomarkers to predict outcomes on these patients. Interestingly, for addressing this gap, extracellular vesicles (EVs) and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have emerged as potential sources of such biomarkers. In this study, we investigated EV-associated miRNAs and presence of autophagic CTCs in prospectively collected serial samples from 38 patients with stage III NSCLC undergoing cCRT. Our findings revealed that non-responders exhibited low levels of baseline EV miR-375, miR-200c, and miR-30c. In particular, EV miR-30c showed high predictive value with an area under the curve of 87.2%. Low EV miR-30c and the presence of autophagic-activated CTCs emerged as independent predictive biomarkers for shorter relapse-free survival and overall survival. Furthermore, in experimental models simulating the effects of chemo- and radiotherapy, the administration of miR-30c, either through direct transfection or encapsulation into human EVs, led to the inhibition of autophagy in these cells. This is the first report demonstrating that EV miR-30c inhibits tumor autophagy and its quantification, together with autophagic-activated CTCs, could be used as biomarkers for the stratification and monitoring of patients with NSCLC undergoing cCRT, and they may hold promising potential for guiding subsequent consolidation treatment with immunotherapy or other novel therapies based on autophagy inhibitors.PhD grant from the University of Granada (D. de Miguel-Perez) (2014)PhD International Mobility (2019) grant from the University of GranadaPIP-0192-2020 grant from the Regional Government of Andalusia, Spai

The scientific manuscripts presented in the 9th Workshop on Agri-Food Research (WIA.2020) are here reported. The WiA.2020 is an annual Scientific Workshop organized by the Doctoral Program in Advanced Techniques for Research and Development in Food and Agriculture (TAIDA) of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) in Spain, in where PhD candidates present their research works. This WIA edition was for first time virtually held on July 27th, 2020, with more than 50 TAIDA PhD candidates from the Agri-food sector who presented the main advances of their research activities. It was more international than ever, connecting our young researches from several countries. Presentations showed a great scientific interest and reflect the outstanding potential of the Research Groups involved in the TAIDA PhD Program belonging to several institutions of the Murcia Region (UPCT, CEBAS-CSIC and IMIDA), other Spanish Regions, and to several foreign institutions of Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, Tunisia, Morocco and Greece. We expect that during the celebration of this virtual Workshop, the cohabitation and exchange of ideas and experiences among PhD candidates, research groups, researchers, technicians, etc. have been favored. The scientific program is structured into three sessions: three sessions: Food Technology & Engineering, Plant Production Technology & Engineering and Agrifood Biotechnology & Agroforestry Engineering. The Scientific Organizing Committee considers that it is necessary for TAIDA PhD candidates to undertake this formative training activity to acquire the typical skills of a PhD, remarking how to summarize their results, highlighting the main important results while presenting and disseminating clearly and concisely to a diverse audience in a limited time, as usually happens in the presentations at worldwide scientific conferences. The Organizing Committee acknowledges the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Agronómica -ETSIA- and the Institute of Plant Biotechnology -IBV- of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena – UPCT- their assistance in making possible this event. To Mare Nostrum Campus -CMN- the dissemination done. Funding received from the International Doctorate School of UPCT is also appreciated

    (1) Background: To describe trends in the prevalence of depression in men and women with COPD hospitalized in Spain (2016–2020). (2) Methods: We used a nationwide discharge database to select all patients ≥35 years with COPD. (3) Results: The prevalence of depression was 3.54-times higher in women with COPD than in men (OR 3.54; 95%CI 3.48–3.6). It decreased significantly between 2016 and 2020, although the reduction was only significant in women (12.27% in 2016 vs. 10.56% in 2020). Older age, comorbidity and the most recent years of hospital admission were associated with lower prevalence of depression in both men and women, while obesity, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and use of oxygen prior to admission were risk factors. In-hospital mortality (IHM) increased significantly over time. Older age, comorbidity, the use of oxygen prior to admission and having been hospitalized in 2020 increased the risk of IHM. Female sex was associated with a lower IHM in patients with depression and COPD. (4) Conclusions: The prevalence of depression has decreased over time in women with COPD while it has not changed significantly in men with this disease. IHM increased over time both in men and women with COPD and depression, with higher prevalence in the former.Depto. de Salud Pública y Materno - InfantilFac. de MedicinaTRUEComunidad de MadridUniversidad Complutense de MadridUniversidad Complutense de Madrid; Grupo de Investigación en Epidemiología de las Enfermedades Crónicas de Alta Prevalencia en España (970970)Sociedad Española de Neumología y Cirugía de Tóraxpu

This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License.-- et al.The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency and mutation status of the immunoglobulin heavy variable chain (IGHV) in a cohort of 224 patients from northwest and central region of Spain diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and to correlate it with cytogenetic abnormalities, overall survival (OS) and time to first treatment (TTFT). 125 patients had mutated IGHV, while 99 had unmutated IGHV. The most frequently used IGHV family was IGHV3, followed by IGHV1 and IGHV4. The regions IGHV3-30, IGHV1-69, IGHV3-23, and IGHV4-34 were the most commonly used. Only 3.1% of the patients belonged to the subfamily IGHV3-21 and we failed to demonstrate a worse clinical outcome in this subgroup. The IGHV4 family appeared more frequently with mutated pattern, similar to IGHV3-23 and IGHV3-74. By contrast, IGHV1-69 was expressed at a higher frequency in unmutated CLL patients. All the cases from IGHV3-11 and almost all from IGHV5-51 subfamily belonged to the group of unmutated CLL.The study was partially supported by grants from the Spanish Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias 02/1041, FIS 09/01382, FIS 09/01543, and PI12/00281; RD12/0036/0069 from Red Tematica de Investigación Cooperativa en Cáncer (RTICC), Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness & European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) “Una manera de hacer Europa”; and Caja de Burgos-Banca Cívica. The growth of the Internet has led to an increased usage of itself in the educational field; for that reason, more educators are acquiring more experience and knowledge regarding virtual environments and tools that enhance the teaching-learning experience. The purpose of this paper is to present a review of the principles in online education and the use of technological tools for teaching and learning a foreign language in a virtual modality, which has been learned through a specialization course provided by the Department of Foreign Languages. The aforementioned program has been divided into three modules containing different aspects to learn in regards to virtual environments in which active participation from the students at the time of using the technological tools taught has been a key factor to increase their ability when use them. The results obtained at the end of the specialization caused a positive impact since it was developed in an adequate online environment. Likewise, effective feedback was provided at the time of putting into practice the content learned. Considering all of these, the more participants learn how to teach a class online, the best performance they will have in an online environment.
