Espondilitis tuberculosa no es una metástasis vertebral: diagnóstico diferencial y tratamiento quirúrgico. A propósito de un caso

Presentamos el caso de una paciente con dorsalgia y clínica neurológica de varios meses de evolución que ante las pruebas de imagen fue erróneamente diagnosticada de metástasis vertebral sin confirmación previa con biopsia. El deterioro progresivo neurológico y las nuevas pruebas de imagen confirmaron el diagnóstico de tuberculosis vertebral. La paciente fue tratada mediante curetaje, desbridamiento, fusión intersomática y osteosíntesis anterior además del tratamiento médico. Hubo una recuperación neurológica de la función sensitiva, motora y esfinteriana prácticamente completa al mes de la intervención. Tras 20 meses de evolución la paciente está asintomática sin evidencia de progresión de la enfermedadWe report a patient with back pain and neurological symptoms several months of evolution to the test image was wrongly diagnosed with spinal metastases without prior confirmation with biopsy. Hidatidosis ósea: nuestra casuística

Se revisan los resultados de 16 casos de hidatidosis musculoesquelética tratados en la Unidad de Sépticos del Aparato Locomotor del Hospital Universitario "La Fe" de Valencia en el período 1972-1989. Las dificultades diagnósticas fueron importantes, siendo en 5 de los casos un diagnóstico operatorio. Analizados los métodos de tratamiento se llega a la conclusión de que la curación definitiva sólo se consigue con la resección completa y amplia de la lesión. Los curetajes, acompañados o no de aseptizaciones químicas, suelen dar recidivas. Se recomienda combinar el tratamiento médico con el quirúrgico.The results of 16 cases of musculoskeletal hydatidosis treated in the locomotive Apparatus Septic Unit of the Valencia University Hospital "La Fe" between 1972 and 1989 wer e reviewed. The diagnostic difficulties wer e marked and 5 cases wer e diagnosed at surgery. After analyzing the therapeutical approaches, it is drawn the conclusion that a definitive healing is achieved only when an extensive and complete resection is done. Curettage, with and without chemical aseptization, generally results in recurrence. A combined medical and surgical treatment is recommended

A Direct Real-Time Observation of Anion Intercalation in Graphite Process and Its Fully Reversibility by SAXS/WAXS Techniques

The process of anion intercalation in graphite and its reversibility plays a crucial role in the next generation energy-storage devices. Herein the reaction mechanism of the aluminum graphite dual ion cell by operando X-ray scattering from small angles to wide angles is investigated. The staging behavior of the graphite intercalation compound (GIC) formation, its phase transitions, and its reversible process are observed for the first time by directly measuring the repeated intercalation distance, along with the microporosity of the cathode graphite. The investigation demonstrates complete reversibility of the electrochemical intercalation process, alongside nano- and micro-structural reorganization of natural graphite induced by intercalation. This work represents a new insight into thermodynamic aspects taking place during intermediate phase transitions in the GIC formation

Effect of water-soluble polymers, polyethylene glycol and poly(vinylpyrrolidone),on the gelation of aqueous micellar solutions of Pluronic copolymer F127

The micellization of F127 (E98P67E98) in dilute aqueous solutions of polyethylene glycol (PEG6000 and PEG35000) and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP K30 and PVP K90) is studied. The average hydrodynamic radius (rh,app) obtained from the dynamic light scattering technique increased with increase in PEG concentration but decreased on addition of PVP, results which are consistent with interaction of the micelles with PEG and the formation of micelles clusters, but no such interaction occurs with PVP. Tube inversion was used to determine the onset of gelation. The critical concentration of F127 for gelation increased on addition of PEG and of PVP K30 but decreased on addition of PVP K90. Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) was used to show that the 30 wt% F127 gel structure (fcc) was independent of polymer type and concentration, as was the d-spacing and so the micelle hard-sphere radius. The maximum elastic modulus (G0 max) of 30 wt% F127 decreased from its value for water alone as PEG was added, but was little changed by adding PVP. These results are consistent with the packed-micelles in the 30 wt% F127 gel being effectively isolated from the polymer solution on the microscale while, especially for the PEG, being mixed on the macroscale

Live tweeting of unfolding events is standard practice. In March 2014, Oscar Pistorius went on trial in the Gauteng High Court for murder. Hundreds of journalists present began live-tweeting coverage, an unprecedented combination of international interest, permission to use technology and access which resulted in massive streams of consciousness reports of events as they unfolded. Based on a corpus of Twitter feeds of twenty-four journalists covering the trial, this study analyses the content and strategies of these feeds in order to present an understanding of how microblogging is used as a live reporting tool. This study shows the development of standardised language and strategies in reporting on Twitter, concluding that journalists adopt a narrow range of approaches, with no significant variation in terms of gender, location, or medium. This is in contrast to earlier studies in the field (Awad, 2006, Hedman, 2015; Kothari, 2010; Lariscy, Avery, Sweetser, & Howes, 2009 Lasorsa, 2012; Lasorsa, Lewis, & Holton, 2011; Sigal, 1999, Vis, 2013).Peer reviewe

Convergence calls: multimedia storytelling at British news websites

This article uses qualitative interviews with senior editors and managers from a selection of the UK's national online news providers to describe and analyse their current experimentation with multimedia and video storytelling. The results show that, in a period of declining newspaper readership and TV news viewing, editors are keen to embrace new technologies, which are seen as being part of the future of news. At the same time, text is still reported to be the cornerstone for news websites, leading to changes in the grammar and function of news video when used online. The economic rationale for convergence is examined and the article investigates the partnerships sites have entered into in order to be able to serve their audience with video content. In-house video is complementing syndicated content, and the authors examine the resulting developments in newsroom training and recruitment practices. Process Calculi à la Bird-Meertens

This paper is an attempt to apply the reasoning principles and calculational style underlying the so-called Bird-Meertens formalism to the design of process calculi, parametrized by a behaviour model. In particular, basically equational and pointfree proofs of process properties are given, relying on the universal characterisation of anamorphisms and therefore avoiding the explicit construction of bisimulations. Dealing with the mess (we made): Unraveling hybridity, normativity, and complexity in journalism studies

In this article, we discuss the rise and use of the concept of hybridity in journalism studies. Hybridity afforded a meaningful intervention in a discipline that had the tendency to focus on a stabilized and homogeneous understanding of the field. Nonetheless, we now need to reconsider its deployment, as it only partially allows us to address and understand the developments in journalism. We argue that if scholarship is to move forward in a productive manner, we need, rather than denote everything that is complex as hybrid, to develop new approaches to our object of study. Ultimately, this is an open invitation to the field to adopt experientialist, practice-based approaches that help us overcome the ultimately limited binary dualities that have long governed our theoretical and empirical work in the field

Arthroscopic All-Inside Remplissage Technique With Knotless Tape Bridge for Hill-Sachs Lesions

The arthroscopic remplissage procedure has been described to successfully treat engaging Hill-Sachs lesions and improve shoulder stability. Several variations of this technique have been described, including remplissage with 1 or 2 knotted or knotless anchors, remplissage with double or triple bridging pulleys, and remplissage with or without a subacromial view. However, most techniques use anchors in combination with round sutures. This article describes an allarthroscopic articular knotless remplissage technique using a strong, flat, double-strand suture tape bridge fixed with 2 small anchors under direct joint visualization and reduction of the capsule and infraspinatus without requiring a subacromial view
