Over the decades, mathematical procedures and their language have represented a
stumbling block in school education, given the complex thought processes that must be
activated. The students of the San José Educational Institution of the municipality of Itagui
are not oblivious to this reality, which is why a didactic sequence was designed and
applied, based on the resolution of problems, through a pedagogical investigative practice,
in order to promote the learning, the concept of combinatorics, among the students of the
third, seventh, ninth and eleventh grades.
Some theoretical referents that allowed us to approach the concept of Combinatoria
were Zapata, Quintero and Morales (2010) and Navarro, Batanero and Godino (1996), who
guided from their postulates the proposed activities in a didactic sequence. In addition, they
coincided with this research by posing one of the obstacles to the appropriation of the
concept, that is, the difficulty in differentiating combination and permutation during the
resolution of problems. Fact that was evidenced among the students, that added to the low
hourly intensity with which this topic is addressed was generating low performances in
internal and external tests; and little work in the classroom. Another possible cause has
been the fear of some teachers to address this issue, either by flaws in the domain of the
concept and its teaching, or by little didactic material to facilitate their learning.
Regarding the didactic sequence, basics were taken from Tobón, Pimienta and
García (2010) and Oicata and Castro (as cited in MEN, 2013), to define the parameters of
the design and application of the same. Therefore, it became a structured learning strategy
based on a problem situation in articulation with the concept under study. With regard to
the resolution of problems, the MEN (1998, 2006) raises it as an inherent process to the
learning of Mathematics in all the school cycles, for this reason, the importance of
assuming it in this investigation. Some factors that intervened in this process were based on
Schoenfeld (as cited in Vilanova et al., 2001).
The background check allowed us to visualize what has been done in education
regarding combinatorial and problem solving, some contributions that enriched the research, were: previous knowledge, cooperative learning, the use of ICT, situations of
context, the didactic sequence, among others.
The units of analysis were established from the application of a didactic sequence,
these were: previous knowledge, representations, verification of results, mathematical
expression, didactic material, integration, app application, context situations with
combinatorial and cooperative learning. Subsequently, these units were unified from the
convergence that was found after the analysis and were articulated in three fundamental
categories: the resolution of problems, the teaching role and the appropriation of the
combinatorial concept.
One of the most important findings was the validity of implementing problem
solving, since it allowed students to transcend traditional learning practices, based on the
mediation of factors such as basic knowledge, context situations, strategies for solution,
representations, didactic materials, cooperative work, metacognition and the use of
technology

Remdesivir and three other drugs for hospitalised patients with COVID-19: final results of the WHO Solidarity randomised trial and updated meta-analyses.
BACKGROUND
World Health Organization expert groups recommended mortality trials of four repurposed antiviral drugs - remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir, and interferon beta-1a - in patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
METHODS
We randomly assigned inpatients with Covid-19 equally between one of the trial drug regimens that was locally available and open control (up to five options, four active and the local standard of care). The intention-to-treat primary analyses examined in-hospital mortality in the four pairwise comparisons of each trial drug and its control (drug available but patient assigned to the same care without that drug). Rate ratios for death were calculated with stratification according to age and status regarding mechanical ventilation at trial entry.
RESULTS
At 405 hospitals in 30 countries, 11,330 adults underwent randomization; 2750 were assigned to receive remdesivir, 954 to hydroxychloroquine, 1411 to lopinavir (without interferon), 2063 to interferon (including 651 to interferon plus lopinavir), and 4088 to no trial drug. Adherence was 94 to 96% midway through treatment, with 2 to 6% crossover. In total, 1253 deaths were reported (median day of death, day 8; interquartile range, 4 to 14). The Kaplan-Meier 28-day mortality was 11.8% (39.0% if the patient was already receiving ventilation at randomization and 9.5% otherwise). Death occurred in 301 of 2743 patients receiving remdesivir and in 303 of 2708 receiving its control (rate ratio, 0.95; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.81 to 1.11; P = 0.50), in 104 of 947 patients receiving hydroxychloroquine and in 84 of 906 receiving its control (rate ratio, 1.19; 95% CI, 0.89 to 1.59; P = 0.23), in 148 of 1399 patients receiving lopinavir and in 146 of 1372 receiving its control (rate ratio, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.79 to 1.25; P = 0.97), and in 243 of 2050 patients receiving interferon and in 216 of 2050 receiving its control (rate ratio, 1.16; 95% CI, 0.96 to 1.39; P = 0.11). No drug definitely reduced mortality, overall or in any subgroup, or reduced initiation of ventilation or hospitalization duration.
CONCLUSIONS
These remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir, and interferon regimens had little or no effect on hospitalized patients with Covid-19, as indicated by overall mortality, initiation of ventilation, and duration of hospital stay.
Kinetic analysis and modeling of L-valine production in fermentation batch from E. coli using glucose, lactose and whey as carbon sources
In this study the effect of the carbon source on L-valine production kinetics using genetically modified E. coli was researched. Glucose, lactose, Whey (W) and deproteinized whey (DW) were tested as carbon sources, keeping the carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio constant. Biomass generation and substrate consumption were modeled with Contois and Mass Conservation models, respectively, whereas Mass Conservation Balance and Luedeking-Piret models were used for product obtaining. Results showed that L-valine production is partially associated to growth, with values of 0.485 g L-valine/(g dry cell weight.h), and a product loss effect at a specific rate (β) of 0.019 g L-valine/(g dry cell weight.h) with W. The yield of this product increased 36 % using W concerning glucose or lactose as carbon sources. On the other hand, Mass Balance and Luedeking-Piret models adjust properly to experimental data (R2 >0.90). In conclusion whey is a promising substrate for obtaining L-valine using genetically-modified E. coli
The aim of this study is to describe the psychosocial characteristics of a group of six young women, infringing of law, detained in a reclution center in the city of Medellin. To achieve this objective we used a qualitative research, narrative and autobiographical mode, which collected data from the life story of adolescents then describe and analyze them. It was found that in these cases various relevant factors converge in the formation of identity of adolescents. These variables can observe the social and family role assigned to them and the existing risk factors in these contexts, and the subsequent identification of adolescents with these representations, which are individually idealized.
