Sprachtests - ethnographisch betrachtet: ein Beitrag zur Kulturanalyse frühdiagnostischer Testverfahren

'Die Fallstudie analysiert in ethnographischer Perspektive Konstruktion und Gebrauch eines Sprachtests, der im Rahmen von kinderärztlichen Vorsorgeuntersuchungen angewandt wird. Sie arbeitet mit Dokumenten/ Instrumentenanalyse und der dichten Beschreibung der Durchführung von Tests auf der Basis teilnehmender Beobachtung. Die Studie stellt praktische Qualitäten und Mängel der spezifischen Testarchitektur heraus und beschreibt, wie in einer Testsituation pädagogische Rahmungen 'beliehen' werden, wie diese pragmatisch zu anderen als pädagogischen Zwecken dienen und die Mängel des Instruments in situ zum einen verdeutlichen und zum anderen kompensieren. Sie leistet damit einen Beitrag zu einer Praxis- und Kulturanalyse frühdiagnostischer Testverfahren.' Relying on an analysis of documents/ instruments and on the minute description of test administration as recorded through participant observation, the study highlights the strengths and the weaknesses of a specific test architecture and describes how, in the test situation, pedagogical frameworks are drawn upon and how they are pragmatically used for other than pedagogical purposes, thus providing in situ evidence in illustration of, as well as compensation for, the shortcomings of a particular instrument. "Just Normal": The Representation of Children's Development Norms in Somatograms. A Praxis-Analytical Exploration of Pediatric Prevention Instruments

Der Artikel entstammt einem ethnografischen Forschungsprojekt, das an der Schnittstelle von Kindheits-, Körper- und Medizinsoziologie angesiedelt ist. Er geht der praxisanalytischen Frage nach, wie Modelle kindlicher Entwicklungsverläufe die Praxis von Kindervorsorgeuntersuchungen strukturieren und in diesem Zuge dazu beitragen, kindliche Entwicklungsprozesse wissensbasiert zu konfigurieren und zu konstituieren. Der Beitrag analysiert die Konstruktionslogik und den Gebrauch von kinderärztlichen Vorsorgeinstrumenten am Beispiel von sogenannten Somatogrammen - das sind grafische Darstellungen der körperlichen Größen- und Gewichtsentwicklung von Kindern - unter der theoretischen Perspektive der Normalisierung der Kindheit. In der Analyse der Kurven-Grafiken sowie von Beobachtungsprotokollen und Elterninterviews arbeitet der Beitrag unterschiedliche praktische Bestimmungen des Instruments heraus: Neben der Dokumentation und Evaluation des Entwicklungsverlaufs für die medizinische Diagnose werden die situierten Effekte im Zuge der Durchführung von Vorsorgeuntersuchungen beschrieben, die diese als Feld der Normalisierung und als pädagogischen Kontext erkennen lassen. Die Somatogramme vermitteln, so die abschließende These, zwischen dem professionellen Wissen und dem Alltagswissen der Eltern und helfen auf diese Weise, die Unverständlichkeit anderer Untersuchungsschritte in situ sozial zu kompensieren.The article results from an ethnographic reasearch project at the interface of the sociology of childhood, the sociology of the body, and medical sociology. It asks how models of the course of children's development structure the practices of prevention programs and thus contribute to configuring and constituting children's developmental processes. The article analyzes the constructional logic and the practical application of pediatric prevention instruments in using so called somatograms -graphic representations of height and weight development - as an example. The theoretical perspective focuses on the normalization of childhood. By analyzing graphs as well as fieldnotes and interviews with parents, the article elaborates different practical purposes of the instrument. Besides documentation and evaluation of individual developmental processes as a diagnostic measure, the situated effects of the conduct of preventive check-ups are described. Thus it is shown, how medical check-ups in children contribute to the normalization of childhood and constitute an educational context. The final thesis is that somatograms mediate between professional and everyday knowledge of parents and thus help to compensate socially for the incomprehensibility of other parts of the examination

Sequenzmuster in unterbrochenen Erwerbskarrieren von Frauen

Ziel der Untersuchung war es zu überprüfen, inwieweit die realen Sequenzmuster von Erwerbsbedarf bei heute etwa 60jährigen Frauen in Übereinstimmung mit dem von Myrdal/Klein postulierten Drei-Phasen-Modell zu bringen sind bzw. welche anderen Ablaufmuster sich eventuell herausgebildet haben. Um die Bedeutung der Erstausbildung herausarbeiten zu können, wurden Frauen befragt (auswertbares Sample: 220 Frauen), die nach Kriegsende eine Lehrausbildung in fünf überwiegend auch heute noch von Frauen häufig gewählten Berufen durchlaufen hatten. Dabei geht es nicht nur um den Wechsel von Erwerbs- und Familienarbeit sondern auch um die jeweilige Art der ausgeübten Erwerbstätigkeit (im erlernten Beruf oder berufsfremd, sozialversicherungspflichtig oder nicht) sowie um das Ausmaß von Dequalifizierung nach Berufswechsel. Die Ergebnisse werden analysiert vor dem Hintergrund von Arbeitsmarkt- und Arbeitszeitbedingungen, von Sozialisationsprozessen bzw. -voraussetzungen in den einzelnen Berufen. Es zeigt sich, daß zwar durch familiäre Ereignisse bestimmte Abfolgemuster nicht erkennbar sind, daß es aber bestimmte berufstypische Verläufe in den weiblichen Biographien gibt.
