Controlling quantum systems by embedded dynamical decoupling schemes
A dynamical decoupling method is presented which is based on embedding a
deterministic decoupling scheme into a stochastic one. This way it is possible
to combine the advantages of both methods and to increase the suppression of
undesired perturbations of quantum systems significantly even for long
interaction times. As a first application the stabilization of a quantum memory
is discussed which is perturbed by one-and two-qubit interactions
Continuous function optimization using hybrid ant colony approach with orthogonal design scheme
A hybrid Orthogonal Scheme Ant Colony Optimization (OSACO) algorithm for continuous function optimization (CFO) is presented in this paper. The methodology integrates the advantages of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Orthogonal Design Scheme (ODS). OSACO is based on the following principles: a) each independent variable space (IVS) of CFO is dispersed into a number of random and movable nodes; b) the carriers of pheromone of ACO are shifted to the nodes; c) solution path can be obtained by choosing one appropriate node from each IVS by ant; d) with the ODS, the best solved path is further improved. The proposed algorithm has been successfully applied to 10 benchmark test functions. The performance and a comparison with CACO and FEP have been studied
Performance Assessment of Ancient Wind Catchers - an Experimental and Analytical Study
AbstractWind catchers – “Baud-Geers” in Persian– are the main component of the traditional buildings in the hot regions of Iran. A Baud-Geer is a tower linked to a building that uses wind to provide natural ventilation and passive cooling. This passive renewable strategy offers the opportunity to improve the ambient comfort conditions in buildings whilst reducing the energy consumption of air-conditioning systems. In this research the natural ventilation performance of a typical wind tower in a hot dry central region of Iran -Yazd city- is studied. The tower is equipped with wind, temperature, air-velocity and solar sensors to acquire a climatic database. Using the measured data, the theoretical values of the ventilation rates are estimated and analysed to assess the performance of the wind tower. Additionally the data collected from the on-site measurements will assist in the validation of a CFD computer model. Finally the findings from this field study will lead to a discussion on the potential of Baud-Geers in achieving thermal comfort. This can contribute to energy savings for cooling and to the reuse and reappraisal of wind towers in Iran
Testing and Analytical Modeling for Purging Process of a Cryogenic Line
To gain confidence in developing analytical models of the purging process for the cryogenic main propulsion systems of upper stage, two test series were conducted. The test article, a 3.35 m long with the diameter of 20 cm incline line, was filled with liquid or gaseous hydrogen and then purged with gaseous helium (GHe). Total of 10 tests were conducted. The influences of GHe flow rates and initial temperatures were evaluated. The Generalized Fluid System Simulation Program (GFSSP), an in-house general-purpose fluid system analyzer computer program, was utilized to model and simulate selective tests. The test procedures, modeling descriptions, and the results are presented in the following sections

Organizational Pathology in Staff Department of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences based on Three-branch Model
Introduction: Pathology of organizations is one of the most key actions that make the university officials aware of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of an organization and allows these officials to take the right actions accordingly. Therefore, this study examined the pathology of human resources in staff departments of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Two hundred employees participated in this study. Random sampling was used and the data were collected by an organizational pathology questionnaire based on the three branch model. Data analyzed by SPSS software.
Results: The results showed that behavioral factors (mean = 2.73) and contextual factors (mean= 3.34) had the highest and the lowest impacts on human resources malfunction in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Among subsets of structural factors, the payment system (average rank of 2.5, mean=2.21±0.72 and p-value ≤0.001), behavioral factors, and job security (mean rank = 2.03, mean=2.28±0.93 and p-value ≤0.001) and among subsets of contextual factors, customer-orientation (mean rank= 1.31, mean=3.07±0.70 and p-value 0.19) had the most impact on organizational pathology in this university.
Conclusion: Considering that the behavioral factors had the greatest impact to the damages, it seems that the university has to adopt programs and policies in terms of creating appropriate organizational culture, increasing motivation and job satisfaction, adopting effective leadership, providing opportunities for training and development of employees and improving job security for the staff. Indeed, it is worth mentioning that solving some of these issues is beyond the powers of the executive organs, so solving these types of problems at macro-organizational level in the country is of vital importance
Genetic analysis of morphological traits in a new, versatile, rapid-cycling Brassica rapa recombinant inbred line population
A recombinant inbred line (RIL) population was produced based on a wide cross between the rapid-cycling and self-compatible genotypes L58, a Caixin vegetable type, and R-o-18, a yellow sarson oil type. A linkage map based on 160 F7 lines was constructed using 100 Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), 130 AFLP®, 27 InDel, and 13 publicly available SSR markers. The map covers a total length of 1150 centiMorgan (cM) with an average resolution of 4.3 cM/marker. To demonstrate the versatility of this new population, 17 traits, related to plant architecture and seed characteristics, were subjected to quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis. A total of 47 QTLs were detected, each explaining between 6 and 54% of the total phenotypic variance for the concerned trait. The genetic analysis shows that this population is a useful new tool for analyzing genetic variation for interesting traits in B. rapa, and for further exploitation of the recent availability of the B. rapa whole genome sequence for gene cloning and gene function analysis
Association of interleukin 1 gene cluster and interleukin 1 receptor gene polymorphisms with ischemic heart failure
BACKGROUND: Proinfl ammatory cytokines have been known to play a considerable part in the pathomechanisms of chronic heart failure (CHF). Given the importance of proinfl ammatory cytokines in the context of the failing heart, we assessed whether the polymorphisms of interleukin (IL)-1 gene cluster, including IL-1a, IL-1β, and IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) and IL-1R gene are predictors of CHF due to ischemic heart disease. METHODS: Forty- three patients with ischemic heart failure were recruited in this study as patients group and compared with 140 healthy unrelated control subjects. Using polymerase chain reaction with sequence-specifi c primers method, the allele and genotype frequency of 5 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the IL- 1a (-889), IL-1β (-511, +3962), IL-1R (psti 1970), and IL-1RA (mspa1 11100) genes were determined.RESULTS: The frequency of the IL-1β -511/C allele was signifi cantly higher in the patient group compared to that in the control group (p = 0.031). The IL-1β (-511) C/C genotype was signifi cantly overrepresented in patients compared to controls (p = 0.022). CONCLUSIONS: Particular allele and genotype in IL-1β gene were overrepresented in patients with ischemic heart failure, possibly affecting the individual susceptibility to this disease (Tab. 1, Ref. 27).
