Geotextile is normally used in geotechnical and other civil engineering work. Geotextiles have been increasingly applied as reinforcement in road embankments. The purpose of this study is to develop the back calculation on safety factor of the use of geotextile as the reinforcement in road embankment considering the displacement in the Proyek Pembangunan Jalan Poncosari-Greges Kabupaten Bantul, D.I. Yogyakarta. The numerical analysis of the road embankment stability was analyzed by finite element method using PLAXIS. Plane strain model was used in this study to calculate the displacement of the road embankment. Analysis results showed that the safety factor obtained by analysis using PLAXIS on the embankment reinforced geotextile was 1.53, which was greater than the standard of safety factor of 1,2. This study concluded that the road embankment was a safe soil construction for the Project of Jalan Pocosari-Greges Yogyakarta

Lateral load factor is an important parameter in the calculation of the load capacity of pile foundation, especially in desian pile foundation in coastal areas where the impact of the waves act as additional lateral load that significantly affect to lateral stability of pile foundation, in this case a mini slab foundations (minipile). The interaction between the waves with a pile foundation is a transfer force event, where the force transmitted by waves more as a drag force than impact force. This is because the wave is a fluid material instead of solid material. This study was conducted to determine the magnitude of the drag force due to the waves of the sea water on cylindrical concrete slab foundations mini (minipile). The simulation results show that the use of large diameter pile exacerbated the drag force coefficient of drag force exerted at the same time by the sea water to the surface of minipil

Identifying the level of community involvement in the community activities at Kg. Kuala Telang, Kuala Lipis, Pahang

A community is a particular group of people that are bound by a similar cultural practice and activities. The continuation of the practising the local culture developed an identity for the community. Through time, the identity is strengthened by the level of community involvement in response to their participation in preserving the culture. The lack of community involvement would result to decreasing number of cultural practices. Eventually, the process contributed to a negative impact on the local identity. This paper addresses the importance of a community involvement concerning safeguarding the local culture and practices. Two objectives are outlined in achieving the aim. Firstly, to identify the list of the community activities. Secondly, to determine the level of community involvement at Kg. Kuala Telang, Kuala Lipis. A quantitative method of analysis is adopted in the paper to achieve the objectives. The survey questionnaire is distributed to 58 respondents, and the result is analysed using descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation tests. The findings from the data collection are arranged into four categories, and the result is discussed accordingly as to answer the aim and objectives of the paper. As a final remark, the paper highlights the importance of community involvement and the methods to ensure the level of participation in response to community activities in the village

Tinjauan Stabilitas Lereng Akibat Beban Gempa Dengan Pemodelan Numeris (Studi Kasus Jalan Plono Kebun Teh Nglinggo Kabupaten Kulonprogo Yogyakarta)

The collision between submarine slide and sub-sea pipelines was simulated through laboratory experiment in order to investigate drag force exerted by mudflow on pipe surface. Mud model used was slurry of kaolin clay-water mixtures. Gravity flow concepts of fluid mechanics principles were implemented by lock-exchange system. It was developed through the laboratory equipment of rectangular channel to generate the mudflow in water ambient. A crosswise pipe stem positioned at certain run-out distance. It was collided by mudflow. The collision attributes of velocity (u), Reynolds number (Re), maximum drag force exerted by mudflow (Fdmax) and drag force coefficient (Cd) were observed based on ratio between water depth (at pipe position) and pipe diameter, abbreviated as H/d. Overall, higher H/d ratio generated higher values of collision attributes. H/d ratio variations had similar constant of Power-law model expression in Re-Cd relationship. It proved that H/d ratio had not effect to Cd very much. The current experiment also generated a high similarity trend line of Re-Cd relationship graph with the previous study. It indicated that the content of clay material (i.e. kaolin) play a major role in mudflow movement and collision, whereas granular materials (used in previous study) provide an extra density

DEVELOPMENT OF ECO-FRIENDLY MORTAR UTILIZING INDUSTRIAL WASTE

Introducing alternatives material on cement-based material manufacturing is the need for environmental sustainability due to the excessive mining of sand from quarry and river bed. At the same time, industrialization headed to an uncontrollable growth of waste. This fact encourages the researcher to enhance the utilization of recycled waste in construction practice. On one side, it affords a solution for waste management, and on the other hand, it contributes to an eco-friendly construction material that minimizes the environmental impact. This paper aims to investigate the usability of the iron waste obtained from the wrought iron industry, as natural fine aggregates replacement. In particular, it focused on studying the physical characteristic of waste aggregates and the effect of partial replacement of natural sand on mortar strength. Mortar cube specimen made with various levels of replacement (0%, 10%, 20% and 30 %) and also various cement-aggregates volumetric proportion, which are 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6, and 1:7. All of the measurement parameters are taken consecutively based on ASTM norms. The current work remarks that both waste aggregates and natural aggregates reveal complete fulfillment in the aggregate requirement of ASTM standard. Furthermore, the mortar cube test confirmed that the mortar passes the strength grade for N class and O class, which suitable for the above-grade and non-load bearing application
