This study was designed to investigate the auditory system functions of the olivocochlear efferents in the Type II DM. 50 patients who had type II DM, normal otoscopic findings and a PTA better than 30 dB on audiometry, and 51 age and sex matched healthy controls were included in the study. Both groups were compared in terms of TUOAE, DPOAE and TUOAE with contralateral suppression, using ILO292 version 6 model device. Audiogram thresholds of the Type II DM patients were found statistically significantly high according to the control (p<0.05). 1000 Hz amplitudes of the TUOAE test , 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000 Hz SGO amplitudes of the DPOAE test were found statistically significantly low according to the control cases (p<0.05). TUOAE, DPOAE tests are affected from age and gender. Audiometry, TUOAE and DPOAE results of the female diabetics were better than male diabetics. There was no statistically significant difference between Type II DM and control group regarding contralateral suppression test results. Type II DM seems to impact on the auditory system at the cochlear level by affecting the functions of OHCs, and results in elevation of the thresholds on audiometry and loss of the emissions. DPOAE testing is more sensitive to the cochlear damage than TUOAE testing as the DPOAEs are affected early in the course of Type II DM. No data was found to present that medial olivocochlear system is affected in Type II DM

WOS: 000300756000012Plesiophantes joosti Heimer, 1981 and Araeoncus clavatus Tanasevitch, 1987 were originally described on the basis of single male specimens from Georgia and Armenia, respectively. The females of both species have not yet been described. We redescribe P. joosti based on a series of new specimens including 2 adult males and 6 adult females collected from two localities in the Artvin province of Turkey. A. clavants is redescribed based on 3 adult males and 1 adult female collected from two localities in the Artvin and Ardahan provinces of Turkey. Both species are new records for the spider fauna of Turkey. Drawings of characteristic features, the female genitalia and the male palpal organs arc presented.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [TBAK: 107T017, 210T033]We are very grateful to the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) for financial support of this work (Project No. TBAK: 107T017) and for providing a digital camera (Project No. 210T033)

The aim of this study was to perform the analysis of hematological parameters in patients with allergic rhinitis symptoms. 181 patients underwent the skin prick test and completed the symptoms inquiry form were included in the study. We measured RBC (Red blood cells), Hb (hemoglobin), Htc (hemotocrit), WBC (white blood cells), PLT (platelet) and MPV (mean platelet volume) of the subjects. The relationship of the skin prick test positivity, allergic symptoms, severity and duration of symptoms, with the hematological parameters are analysed. Hematologic parameters were in normal ranges in patients who presented with symptoms of chronic rhinitis. There was no correlation between skin prick test positivity and hematological parameters. In the Alergic rhinitis group, RBC and Hb were seen to be affected by duration of illness and not to be affected by allergen distribution. WBC was seen to decrease as the duration of illness prolonged in both allergic and non-allergic groups. The presence of nasal symptoms was found to be associated with high RBC, Hb, Htc values. In the AR group, the RBC and Hb were found to have been affected by the duration of illness, and unaffected by the allergen distribution.WoSScopu

Karabulut, Ismail/0000-0002-1339-5385WOS: 000300203500009Aim: To determine the distribution of allergens and allergic symptoms according to occupation groups in those who were exposed to toluene and presented with allergic rhinitis symptoms. Materials and methods: Of the 2005 patients who were administered an allergy test with the prediagnosis of allergic rhinitis, the files of 138 patients who were exposed to toluene were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The mean age of the patients was 35 10 years. Distributions of symptoms and allergens of 57 patients (41.3%) with negative skin prick test and 81 patients (58.7%) with positive skin prick test were analyzed according to occupation groups. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of symptoms at baseline except for the symptom of runny nose (P > 0.05). The groups were compared in terms of complaints that started at the age of 16 or later, which was found as 76.5% in the positive group and 91.2% in the negative group. Conclusion: The occupation of the patient must be considered in patients who present with allergic symptoms; in particular, patients with negative skin prick test should be investigated in terms of occupational exposure

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a clinically heterogeneous disease which can be seen in patients with psoriasis, affects the axial and peripheral joints and can involve skin, nail and enthesis. Therefore, PsA can be confused with many diseases. Skin involvement can be established after joint involvement in 15% of PsA patients. This creates difficulties in diagnosis and follow-up. We attempted to draw attention to the difficulties in the diagnosis of PsA in patients who present with polyarthritis and positive anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-ccp) antibody and also, we underline necessity of cautious and detailed history taking and good physical examination

Though it is not very frequent, hearing loss can be experienced after head traumas. Surgicalintervention is occasionally required in persistant conductive hearing loss, and incudostapedialjoint injury often occurs during these interventions. In incudostapedial joint repair, ossicularprothesis, shaped bone and cartilage autogrefts are usually used. However; these methods havevarious disadvantages. In this case we report a case of incudostapedial joint repair with hydroxyapatite bone cement which is easily applicable, cheap and has favored audiological results in achild who experienced conductive hearing loss after temporal trauma
