Confidence in expressing novel textures - an analysis of Japanese ideophones that describe visually-induced textures
Although a close relationship between the emergence of a new expression and that of either a new object or concept is presupposed in linguistic analysis, the correlation has not been pursued thoroughly. This paper investigates how people respond to different novel textures within language. We carried out an experiment using an application that displays visually-induced texture. Participants were presented with two types of novel texture: one had a time delay between touching and the texture’s response to this and the other did not. Participants were asked to describe the texture with ideophones (sound symbolic words) in Japanese. We observed what kinds of ideophones were used and the confidence with which they were expressed, which produced two results. First, there was a significant difference between the two texture types regarding confidence. For the texture with a delay, active touch was required for subjects to express it with a high level of confidence. Second, when the expressions were made with high confidence, the texture with a delay was expressed with significantly more unconventional ideophones than that without delay
The purpose of this study was to examine relationships between nurses\u27 negative self-awareness in interpersonal relationships and their internal attributions. A sample consisted of 332 nurses was examined. The instruments used were Negative self-awareness in Interpersonal relationships scale by Hayashi and Ogawa, Multidimensional ego identity scale by Tani, Self-preoccupation scale by Sakamoto, Japanese version of Empathy consideration scale of the sub-concepts of Interpersonal Reactivity Index by Davis, Loneliness Scale by Ochiai and Japanese version of Depression Scale by Zung. The scores of ego identity showed partial correlation coefficient with significant level of 0.1% to those of negative self-awareness in interpersonal relationships. The scores of self-preoccupation showed positively correlation with those of negative self-awareness in interpersonal relation-ships. The scores of depression showed partial correlation coefficient with significant level of 0.1% to those of negative self-awareness in interpersonal relationships. Also, the relation-ships between nurses\u27 negative self-awareness in interpersonal relationships and internal attribution is different by their gender, age, experience, career ladder, brother numbers and friends\u27 numbers etc

Nodal Merkel Cell Carcinoma in Head and Neck Lesions with an Unknown Primary: A Case Report in Light of the Literature
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare but aggressive neuroendocrine skin cancer. To diagnose nodal MCC with an unknown primary disease is challenging, and it has to be separated from other nodal metastatic neoplasms. We report a unique case of nodal MCC in head and neck lesions with an unknown primary. A 70-year-old woman was admitted to our department with a right submandibular mass. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed and indicated malignancy. F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET) demonstrated abnormal accumulation in the right submandibular lymph node, right palatine tonsil, and right thyroid gland. For diagnostics and treatment, bilateral selective neck lymph node dissection, right tonsillectomy, and right thyroidectomy were performed. Histopathological examination revealed that most parts of the submandibular lymph node were occupied by diffuse sheets of tumor cells. Contrary to our expectation, malignant cells were not detected in the right palatine tonsil and right thyroid. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated a marked positive reaction for AE1/AE3, chromogranin A, synaptophysin, cytokeratin 20 (CK20) and CD56 and a negative reaction for vimentin, leucocyte common antigen (LCA), thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF1) and cytokeratin 7 (CK7) in the tumor cells. Immunostaining of Merkel cell polyomavirus-large T antigen (MCPyV-LT) showed a positive reaction and MCPyV-positive MCCs were assessed by PCR analysis, demonstrating that viral copy number was 12.8 copies per cell. These histological findings confirmed the diagnosis of Merkel cell carcinoma of the lymph node. In cases of tumors in the lymph node with a neuroendocrine appearance in head and neck lesions, it is necessary to eliminate the possibility of metastasis from MCC
