Roman Catholicism in Ukraine: The Contemporary Situation, Social Acceptance, and Social Service

This article investigates the historical peculiarities of the formation and specificity of the current stage of development of Catholicism in Ukraine. It considers the spiritual, socio-cultural, economic, and political prerequisites for the resumption of the activity of the Roman Catholic Church during the revival of Ukraine\u27s independence in the 1990s. A quantitative comparison of dioceses since the end of the last century has been undertaken and their patterns of growth have been identified. The main achievements of the largest Catholic churches in the country since Ukrainian independence have consisted in building its ecclesiastical structures and expanding its community networks and active social service. This has resulted in a positive trend of increasing awareness and confidence among the Ukrainian citizens in Catholic institutions, their leaders, and Catholicism in general. Various aspects of the “Vatican\u27s Eastern Policy” and its implications for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church are also examined, as well as problems and prospects for further integration of the Roman Catholic identity into the spiritual space of Ukrainian society. The main contours of the institutional Catholic response to the current crisis situations in Ukrainian society are outlined, including the war in the East of the country, family problems, poverty, existence of socially vulnerable groups of people, despair, and so forth

Neighbourhood (dis)satisfaction in a former closed Soviet city: the case of Dnipro(petrovsk), Ukraine

This paper describes and analyses the geography and factors of the neighbourhood satisfaction of the residents of a former post-WWII Soviet closed city in Ukraine – the post-Soviet city of Dnipro (population ca. one million). It is based on a questionnaire survey (n=1248) among adult (18+) inhabitants in Dnipro conducted in early 2018. The results show that the current inner-urban pattern is characterised by semi-peripheralised neighbourhood satisfaction, which is a consequence of the significant influence of (among other factors): infrastructure availability in the neighbourhood, the social and natural environmental in the neighbourhood, and the set of Soviet-legacy factors (the “Soviet” factor). Surprisingly, the highest level of neighbourhood satisfaction in the city of Dnipro is observed in one of the peripheral neighbourhoods (with predominant detached housing), in which the residents’ evaluation of their residential neighbourhood follows the proximity effect

Семантика і функції онімів у протестних гаслах (на прикладі гасел травневих протестів 1968 року у Франції) (Onym and functional semantics in the slogans of protests of may 1968 in France)

Стаття присвячена проблемам значення і функціонування власних назв у гаслах травневих протестів 1968 року у Франції. Семантика оніма розглядається у межах семантики кожного конкретного гасла та більш широкого контексту. Окрім типової ідентифікаційної функції, аналізується цілий ряд інших. Так, ідеться про алюзійну роль імені, участь у творенні звукової тканини гасла. Онімна гра підкреслює елемент гри, типовий для постмодерної епохи, у яку відбувалися згадані події. (The article is devoted to the problems of proper names meaning and functioning in the slogans of protests of May 1968 in France. We try to follow the division of proper names into groups according to the type of object they name, though, thematic division is not less important, because May 1968 was not purely political event, so we treat slogans with theonyms as well as with anthroponyms, toponyms, ergonyms, etc. Onym semantics is regarded within semantics of each slogan and in the wider context as well. Besides the typical function of identification, a range of the other ones is analyzed. The article deals with proper names serving as allusions and with the ones serving to create the phonetic structure of a slogan. Onym game highlights the element of game, typical to the postmodern period, in which the mentioned events took place. Proper name, interacting with other components of a phrase, produces a completely new meaning of the old slogan, aphoristic expression or other text; it becomes an element of parody. Many onyms are included in periphrastic constructions or are such a construction themselves. Entering the slogan, proper name ‒ even the most emotionally neutral ‒ serves to indicate the attitude of the speaker to the mentioned event, person, place.

The Nature and Motives of Religiosity in an Atheistic State (on the Example of Scientific Research Conducted in Soviet Ukraine)

This article analyzes methods for studying the nature and motives of religiosity of the population in the context of ideologically tinged academic science. The academic scientific approach to the studied branch, in this case, the religiosity of the population, ensured a large array of empirical material and the possibility to classify and structure it. This enriched the science of religion with new facts. The idea that religiosity could be overcome with the help of fundamental educational and scientific propaganda was refuted by data on the development of religiosity in the territory of Soviet Ukraine. The shortcoming of dominance of ideology in scientific research is revealed. The study of the phenomenon of religiosity led to false ideological conclusions about the backwardness of the religious worldview, and of the alleged spiritual poverty of a religious person in comparison with the bearer of an atheistic, scientific worldview

У статті обґрунтовується важливість здійснення моніторингу технології проектування, виокремлюються етапи для роботи над проектами студентами, визначені функції студента-об’єкта у традиційній освіті і студента-суб’єкта в освіті, заснованій на партнерстві. PECULIARITIES OF LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES BY STUDENTS - NON-PHILOLOGISTS

In the article the features of professional training in a university related to translation of texts are observed. The authors prove that translation is one of the skills provided for the foreign language. Translation is a necessary condition of the students' sufficient communicative competence in professional activities. Authors analyse the new approaches to translation of professional texts; types of training exercises for translation are listed. The importance of a professional text and a method to use it in preparing students of non-philological specialties are revealed.Analysis of recent research and publications has shown that currently there is a lack of fundamental methodological studies related to training interpreters of specialized texts. This is obviously caused by the specificity and complexity of translation as a kind of speech activity. Purpose of this paper is to reveal the importance of a professional text and a method to use it in preparing students of non-philological specialties, to analyze the types of exercises and their feasibility. Authors offer to discuss some examples of tasks for students aimed at practicing the ability to allocate the necessary information in the text

The Discussions at the Russian Empire Archaeological Congresses Regarding the Preservation of Cholmshchyna and Pidlyashia Historical and Cultural Heritage

У статті проаналізовано матеріали загальноросійських археологічних з’їздів останньої третини ХІХ - початку ХХ ст., у яких розглянуто проблематику збереження пам’яток історії та культури Холмщини й Підляшшя. Підкреслено роль цих наукових зібрань, що проводилися з ініціативи Московського археологічного товариства, особливо у вивченні, збереженні та популяризації історико-культурної спадщини різних регіонів Російської імперії. The article analyzes the materials of the All-Russian archaeological congresses of the last third of the XIX - early XX centuries, which considered the problem of preserving the historical and cultural monuments of Cholmshchyna and Pidlyashia. The role of these scientific meetings, conducted at the initiative of the Moscow Archaeological Society, was emphasized, especially in the study, preservation and popularization of historical and cultural heritage of various regions of the Russian Empire

Historical and Cultural Heritage of Volyn in the Studies of the Polish researcher Tadeush Stetsky

У статті аналізується діяльність польського дослідника Тадеуша Стецького (1838–1888) з вивчення та опису пам’яток історії й культури Волині. Наголошується, що, будучи уродженцем цього краю, дослідник усвідомлював роль і значимість Волині у суспільно-культурному житті Правобережної України. Підкреслюється, що він крізь призму описів родинних маєтків, замків, костелів, католицьких каплиць, інших польських пам’яток на Волині намагався показати їх значення, висвітлити історію спорудження, життя особистостей, пов’язаних із Волинню. Водночас дослідник не обминув увагою старожитностей, що належали корінному населенню Волині – українцям. The article deals with the scientific work of the Polish researcher Tadeush Stetsky (1838–1888) devoted to the investigations and descriptions of the historical and cultural artifacts and buildings of Volyn. It is pointed out that the researcher being born in this region realised the role and importance of Volyn in the cultural and social life of Ukraine. It is underlined that he tried to show the value and importance of the family estates, castles, cathedrals, Catholic chapels, the history of their creation, and to present the important persons connected with Volyn. At the same time the reasearcher paid a special attention to the studies of the old ethnic utensils which belonged to the local inhabitants of Volyn − to the Ukrainians

В даній статті розглянута важлива роль банківських установ в розвитку ринку цінних паперів, які є його провідними учасниками. Банки – невід’ємна частина сучасного фінансового ринку. Ринок цінних паперів як найбільш динамічна сфера фінансового ринку зазнав значних змін. Поступово міняється роль комерційних банків на ринку цінних паперів, збільшилась їх значущість як посередників на цьому ринку. Діяльність банків на ринку цінних паперів багатогранна, оскільки вони не лише традиційно є посередниками, що зв'язують інтереси і грошові кошти емітентів і інвесторів, але і самі активно використовують фінансові інструменти для формування власної ресурсної бази, розміщення грошових коштів у високоліквідні і прибуткові коштовні папери. Ефективне здійснення операцій з цінними паперами сприяє диверсифікації банківської діяльності і посиленню конкуренції у фінансово-кредитній сфері. Проаналізована динаміка активів комерційних банків України і вкладень у цінні папери. Визначено позитивні і негативні моменти, запропоновано заходи щодо залучення і коштів від населення для подальшого розвитку операцій банків з цінними паперами, розширення клієнтської бази.В данной статье рассмотрена важная роль банковских учреждений в развитии рынка ценных бумаг, которые являются его ведущими участниками. Рынок ценных бумаг как наиболее динамическая сфера финансового рынка испытал значительные изменения. Постепенно меняется роль коммерческих банков на рынке ценных бумаг, увеличилась их значимость как посредников на этом рынке. Деятельность банков на рынке ценных бумаг многогранна, поскольку они не только традиционно являются посредниками, которые связывают интересы и денежные средства эмитентов и инвесторов, но и сами активно используют финансовые инструменты для формирования собственной ресурсной базы, размещения денежных средств в высоколиквидные и прибыльные ценные бумаги. Эффективное осуществление операций с ценными бумагами способствует диверсификации банковской деятельности и усилению конкуренции в финансово-кредитной сфере. Проанализирована динамика активов коммерческих банков Украины и вложений в ценные бумаги. Определены позитивные и негативные моменты, предложены мероприятия по привлечению средств от населения для последующего развития операций банков с ценными бумагами, расширения клиентской базы.The article deals with an important role of banks institutions in the development of the securities market, which its key players. Banks are integral parts of modern financial market. The security market is the most dynamic area of the financial market has undergone significant changes. Gradually changing the role of commercial banks in the security markets, increased their importance as intermediaries in this market. The activities of banks in the security market multifaceted as they are traditionally intermediaries, linking funds and interests of issuers and investors, but also the most actively using financial instruments to create their own resource base, placing cash in highly liquid and profitable securities. Effective operations with securities promote diversification of banking activities and increased competition in the financial and credit sector. It has been analyzed the dynamics of the assets of commercial banks in Ukraine and investments in the securities. It was determined positive and negative aspects of proposed measures to attract funds from the public and for the further development of banking transactions in securities, expanding customer base
