Mental health, intimate partner violence and HIV

Intimate partner violence (IPV) and HIV are intersecting epidemics in South Africa (SA). Despite recognition that IPV and HIV are bidirectionally linked, less attention has been given to mental health – a key health condition that is at the nexus of both violence and HIV/AIDS. While SA healthcare professionals have made great strides in treating HIV, the corresponding conditions of IPV and mental health receive far less clinical care. Treating mental health has the potential to positively effect HIV care and treatment, but is also a powerful gateway to enhanced comprehensive health in patients. Improving skills in managing the mental health of patients will lead to better health for them and quality of life for affected families. It can also assist health systems to deal more effectively with complex cases that so rarely achieve positive health outcomes

    The quantum algebra of superspace

We present the complete set of N=1N=1, D=4D=4 quantum algebras associated to massive superparticles. We obtain the explicit solution of these algebras realized in terms of unconstrained operators acting on the Hilbert space of superfields. These solutions are expressed using the chiral, anti-chiral and tensorial projectors which define the three irreducible representations of the supersymmetry on the superfields. In each case the space-time variables are non-commuting and their commutators are proportional to the internal angular momentum of the representation. The quantum algebra associated to the chiral or the anti-chiral projector is the one obtained by the quantization of the Casalbuoni-Brink-Schwarz (superspin 0) massive superparticle. We present a new superparticle action for the (superspin 1/2) case and show that their wave functions are the ones associated to the irreducible tensor multiplet.Comment: 20 pages;changes in the nomenclatur

Enabling I/O Automata Using Omniscient Archetypes

Many cyberinformaticians would agree that, had it not been for IPv6, the technical unification of digital-to-analog converters and Byzantine fault tolerance might never have occurred. Given the trends in constant-time theory, hackers worldwide famously note the study of randomized algorithms, which embodies the confirmed principles of cryptography. In our research we describe new game-theoretic archetypes (Sinner), showing that Byzantine fault toler- ance and the producer-consumer problem are mostly incompatible. Even though such a hypothesis might seem perverse, it fell in line with our expectations

Microscopic Current Dynamics in Nanoscale Junctions

So far transport properties of nanoscale contacts have been mostly studied within the static scattering approach. The electron dynamics and the transient behavior of current flow, however, remain poorly understood. We present a numerical study of microscopic current flow dynamics in nanoscale quantum point contacts. We employ an approach that combines a microcanonical picture of transport with time-dependent density-functional theory. We carry out atomic and jellium model calculations to show that the time evolution of the current flow exhibits several noteworthy features, such as nonlaminarity and edge flow. We attribute these features to the interaction of the electron fluid with the ionic lattice, to the existence of pressure gradients in the fluid, and to the transient dynamical formation of surface charges at the nanocontact-electrode interfaces. Our results suggest that quantum transport systems exhibit hydrodynamical characteristics which resemble those of a classical liquid.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures; Accepted for publication in Phys. Large random simplicial complexes, I

    Get PDF
In this paper we introduce a new model of random simplicial complexes depending on multiple probability parameters. This model includes the well-known Linial - Meshulam random simplicial complexes and random clique complexes as special cases. Topological and geometric properties of a multi-parameter random simplicial complex depend on the whole combination of the probability parameters and the thresholds for topological properties are convex sets rather than numbers (as in all previously known models). We discuss the containment properties, density domains and dimension of the random simplicial complexes.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figure
